@@icp7201 If you're gonna premove in the opening you need to be sensible about it. In blitz it's reasonable to try get time wherever you can and the best place to premove can be the opening to save time. But like, if your opening can have your pieces be attacked in one move don't premove. Only premove where it's literally impossible to hang a piece in one move.
A lot of times he suggests a move and I think "what are you talking about" only to immediately see he's right and I'm 700 for a reason, but from time to time he'll do something where I'm even doubting myself thinking "but don't you just get taken by that bishop? what am I missing?" and then he gets taken and screams. @@dylanb2990 at no point did I say it's low - NL is in the peak 0.1% of chess players ever. That doesn't change the fact that a queen is generally worth more than three minor pieces at his level AND pieces get hung pretty frequently around 1400.
Hey Northernlion, just a little tip. I suggest going to the settings and changing the desired engine to komodo instead of stockfish. Its also strong but shows the lines extremely fast.
Sometimes I think I'm almost as good as NL at chess, then he has the wherewithal to immediately recognize and punish that premover and I'm like, this man is a God.
14:37 I only say this because I struggled with it for a long time: the a rook is clearly the better rook to take the f file in this situation. Naroditsky had a great video on the topic, hit him up if you're interested.
It doesn't seem obvious to me why one rook would be better than the other here, especially in such a winning position where it wouldn't really ever matter. Rhf8 actually seems better since the e file is threatening to open up and you might want your a rook there to control both files.

I love this vid. So many of your opponents played like "omg look at me I'm so good because I play my openings at light speeds" then ended up blundering their pieces
If the youth really say that they probably should stop, given the historical context behind the word “pogrom” and all. Not to bring a history downer into your meme, but…
Your chess vids got me back into chess and I started watching GothamChess too. Made it to 900 in rapid (from 400) in the past few weeks. Thanks for the content and keeping chess fun 😀
If you want a CRAZY way of meeting the fried liver (and one that I win over 70% of my games with), look into Traxler Counterattack - it's honestly the most fun way to play chess I've ever found
19:20 NL playing for premove punishes not realising he's just playing a normal offshoot when black plays against the fried liver is really funny. Get's a totally reasonable position and thinks he's been punished.
Today, NL had a solid 5 game streak where he looks like he's finally starting to figure Chess out. Tomorrow, he will blunder a piece or a pawn and lose miserably in 15 moves multiple times in the video. Gotta love Egg ;)
I believe that on grandmaster level the king's gambit is usually declined and the queen's accepted, not vice versa, but I might be wrong. Same as you, I do not understand the reasons why for either.
That second game where you punished the premove is the hardest I've laughed at a game of chess in my life.
It'd only been uploaded for like ten minutes, what speed are you watching at
@@Szanth it was 4 minutes into the video lol
@@jacefairis1289 oh no
That was pure comedy lmao, may be the first time I laughed like this watching a chess game

The hubris of trying to catch a second opponent premoving is the kind of relatable chess content that keeps me coming back
The hubris of premoving during the opening moves, too
I will always support the attempt, because when it succeeds, oh boy. That's instant karma baby, and it tastes soooo good.

fellow 700s who watch NL unite
NL punishing that poor bastard for premoving is the funniest shit. completely justified, imo
I'm laughing my ass off
Absolutely.
this killed me
That was hilarious 😂
he really said “I bet that seems like a scumbag move” like no that was freaking epic
PUNISH THOSE PESKY PREMOVERS!!!!! COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED
*prejackers
Your commentary with a base in chess and yet absolute insane play makes your chess content invaluable. Thank you for all of it, it's wonderful
22:03 Oh No, My Knight!! eric rosen would be proud, even if 3 minor pieces for a queen and a pawn is technically only +1
Technically true, but you can’t deny: this is gaming.
At NL's elo a queen is worth more like +50 - except sometimes it gets instantly hung, so it could also be worth +0.
@@Gabu_ 1400 isn’t that low dude, chill with the elitism.

4:36 not scum bag .... highly deserved and hilarious

I lost my shit at the punish on the premove, that was theatrical, beautiful, and everything i want from these videos
4:35 absolute watermelon brain outplay
That sequence of knight moves at the beginning was unhinged
Top 10 clutches of all time!

"AHHHHH" -NL, every chess video.

god.. that bishop take on the premove followed by the resignation... chefs kiss

Did you learn how to speak in Dan Gheesling's school of vocabulary or what? :D
The best bit of the pre-move punish was NL hovering his cursor over the knight and then suddenly moving the pawn, as if that was part of the fake-out
that pre-move punish was so good lmao
thanks for the company
5:13 As a Grand Prix player, the way NL's knight on f3 is in front of his pawn looks so cursed to me.

that was so good! "Why are you moving so fast... hmm watch this." reminded me of The Brain Destroyer from the toy baseball
Absolute banger after banger!
Would still love loss analysis, but this is some grade A entertaining chess content

The first 5 minutes of this video are the best 5 minutes of chess content on the internet since the Critikal/xQc match

On of your best videos ever - great job!
The "Oh no my knight" was great.
That was an all time great video. That pre-move response 😀
Absolute chad behavior when you punished the pre move
Damn I wish this was a twitch VOD so I could clip that pre-move punish
I'm in your base liking your vids
Premove punish into resignation is peak chess content.
That has to be one of the best chess videos by NL. Masterpiece
Best part was eggman almost getting checkmated at the end by not premoving his king when possible. Now this is gaming.
Insane second game. Had me on the edge of my seat

Generally, 3 pieces are better than a queen, especially when the position can be opened or is already open. The 3 pieces simply controls more squares.
