As a singer I would attribute that to the fact that his songs are all within his comfortable range. Nothing too high. That has certainly helped preserve his voice. Axl Rose is an extreme example of the opposite of that. It has also to do with bad habits too of course like alcohol, not sleeping properly, drugs, etc.

One of music's great lyricists and one of my favourite bands (The Smiths)....but Mozzer's voice is sadly on the wane. Looks like he's having to more or less speak the words rather than sing them.
All I see is fangirls and boys hanging out of the back of him, don’t get me wrong I love the smiths but no this is not the smiths or morissey at his best. The entire concert was just bizarre with him chanting stuff and clearing his throat and not to mention being totally off pitch. Seems I was the only one to notice or I was stood in the wrong place!

Morrissey solo versions are actually better than Smiths live versions because Marr tried to do it himself on stage and it sounded rotten.
