❤A Cairn Terrier is the most funny, courageous, feisty in a good way, happy and loyal loving little girl or guy you could ever wish for. You're blessed to have her/him. Take care❤

Her coat is so gorgeous! Gunny will bury his things the same way. Sometimes we find 'treasures ' under our pillows. Unfortunately it's usually a sock he took from the dirty clothes lol! They are so much fun. Even at 6 he's spunky and always up for adventure. It is finally possible to tire him out now lol! At the window with the baby was so precious!! Have a great week and an extra treat!!

@Connie Cozart that is too funny! But better a dirty sock than a soggy piece of rawhide haha. It’s so sweet how they leave presents for the hoomans! Have a great week as well and say hi to Gunny for us!

Thank you for getting back to me. Your dog appeared to be hand stripped. A groomer was talking me out of it and says that he gave up the practice years ago. I love the wiry coat and keeping the puppy hair, but he said that many groomers have given up the practice unless the cairns are a show dog, he doesn’t like to subject them to having their hair pulled out. I would like to see a cairn who has been clipped to see what they look like. I was all prepared to have her hand stripped, but now I’m thinking twice about it. Your dog, looks like an adult version of our puppy. Your dog looks to me, like a large puppy.:)Happy to see how ours will look as she grows.:)

Hi, not that you asked me, but I have just done a lot of research in this area! This is relevant for a few terrier breeds, the ones that have a wiry longer top coat and the softer coat underneath. From what I read, many people misunderstand hand stripping. The hair is not pulled out at the root. And it doesn't have to be pulled hard to be removed. It is already loose hair that is simply stuck in the fur. If it doesn't come off the coat fairly easily, it's not ready to come out. It only needs to be done a few times a year. In between, regular brushing and combing is fine. You can shape the hair around the jaw and ears with thinning shears, and maybe on the lower belly and legs, decreasing the fur length only. But if you decide to clip your terrier, (and you can't if you are showing it), the only thing that will happen is that the top wiry hairs don't grow back the same. You will lose the natural protection your dog has for rainy weather and dirt will stick to its fur more. The soft hair will matt more easily and it will turn a bit paler in colour. So really, either way, it's a bit of work. My own opinion is that hand stripping is easier, and after watching a ton of videos where the dog is fine, and even one that falls asleep while it's being groomed this way, I'm convinced it should never hurt the dog. Maybe some people are pulling hair that isn't ready to be groomed and that's why it is misunderstood. I bet it's not that hard to do if you are generally handy. Hope that helps! Oh! and the knife they use in hand stripping is simply to allow the groomer to go faster and save time. Nothing is being cut. byeee. ruclips.net/user/shorts4qNS0M3lRhQ

They are just brilliant pals to have around. My boys grew up with them as did I. Now my grandchildren who are 7, 3 and 2 years old have the pleasure of Teddy and Trixie (my 2 Cairns aged 8 and 5). The children love the dogs and the dogs love them too ❤ 😀 💙 my grandson says that Teddy is his brother 💙

Got to love Cairns, my boy Buster is a loveable boy who refuses to take notice of anything I say , except when it suits him. Has an obsession with squirrels and can’t pass a leaf without a good sniff.

Our Lucy was 15 when she died. We were devastated but waited over a year for another. Fiona is running our home. They are very different in temperament but both very good dogs.

Oh wow another Cairn named Lucy. Our older dog was a Lucy as well and made it to 17. Her daughter Mischief (definitely lived up to the name) made it to 16. Several of the other descendants lived to their high teens. I had no idea Cairns were so long lived until I mentioned to our vet and he said they frequently did and he'd had a patient (Cairn) who'd lived to 21. Lucy got quite stately and dignified when she reached old age but Mischief never hung up her title lol. She kept up her shenanigans all the way to the very end.

Hi, do you have your Cairn Terrier hand stripped at the groomers? What method does your groomer use and if it isn't hand stripped, are there any things to mention to the groomer? We have a 12 week old puppy that is Brindle in colour and looks very much like your adult dog.

Yes, we are hand stripped. Our breeder grooms us so we just leave it to the pros!

one does not own a Cairn Terrier. one is owned by a Cairn Terrier. I speak from nearly twenty years of being owned by my Lily.
