What I like about this kind of review is it comes from a cyclist who wants to enjoy his rides. There may always be trade offs but a bike you enjoy riding that ticks all your requirements has got to be the best. Thanks Russ.

I purchased the Nicasio Plus mainly because of your review. I've owned track bikes, carbon road and cyclocross bikes, XC bikes and enduro bikes and have raced with all of them. The Nicasio is now the only bike that I own. Now I'm at a point where I just want to enjoy cycling without battering my body doing it. So the Nicasio Plus is not just for the beginner cyclist but also for old jaded ones like me, haha. Currently I have set the bike up with a front rack to seat a rando bag. To think that I was once a lycra-clad roadie who absolutely hates putting even a saddle bag on the bike. Things have changed.

I relate to your words. I have many decades experience on light bikes but a recent purchase of a lugged custom steel road frame completely opened my eyes to a deeper joy I was missing out on. I am going to get a Nicasio+ as a hack to cut through some trails on my way to work and back. Was undecided until I read your post, thankyou.

I bought my Nicasio+ after watching your assembly video and 2 months later, I’m still very happy with it. You’ve mentioned the weight being an issue several times but as someone whose previous bike was a clunky 3-speed commuter, the Nicasio+ feels amazing. One day I hope to own a lighter and higher performing bike like a bomb track, but for now I’m more than content with my Nicasio. Thanks for the tip! #650B-BOYS

Your carbon wheel review inspired me to build a 650b set. I’m deciding between ENVE G27 and Stan’s Arch cb7 rims. I’ll be mounting 650x45 to 650x55 range and may try some 27.5x2.1” tires if needed.

I’d love to see a review of something like the Kona Dr Dew, it feels like it could be a fun, flat bar, do lots of stuff bike on the relatively cheap. You get hydro discs, 1x12, and 650b out of the box. All for around $1100, which is right near your budget limit.

I am considering getting a Curst Bombora but have liked having a 46 to 30 White Industries crank on my current build. I understand that you went with a single chain ring up front. However, you had mentioned in one of your "Cave of Bad Ideas" videos that you were not sure if a double ring crank would work on the Bombora. I was curious as to why you think this. I also worry that even if a double would work, that it might compromise tire clearance. Any feedback you have would be great. I thoroughly enjoy your content and Happy New Year.

I think you could expand the categories:

    Maybe other merits for sub-disciplines:
Best racer, most versatile, king of the mountain (aka best climber)

Newly subscribed, and enjoying Russ's PLP content.
Just wanted to second this suggestion for reviewing a Giant, and would be curious to hear if the '19/'20 alloy Revolt and carbon Revolt Advanced frames deliver the supple ride their marketing department claims.
I'm definitely a fan of supple steel frames (been pedaling steel frames for 30+ years), but am curious if current frames made with other materials can also provide a forgiving ride similar to a good steel frame.
Given how svelte and flexy Giant's hydroformed alloy mountain bike frames have been (my older alloy Reign frame was < 7lbs incl rear shock, which is lighter than many current carbon trail/all-mountain frames), the new alloy Revolt might actually be a supple sleeper alloy gravel bike for anyone on a budget. So I hope that Russ can review one this year.
