I played this album to death when it came out. I personally think Ms Marshall is a genius.
So many people use the word "genius," so few know what it means.

For me, Sun comes as close as possible to a perfect album. I love every single song on the album. And the album has a good flow to it if that makes sense. The songs are ordered great.

It’s her best work in my opinion. I wish the world and consumerism wasn’t able to influence her so much. She’s becoming a standard singer and elevator music or greys anatomy score.

I wish that people wouldn't look at everything with a jaded perspective. I wonder if anyone criticizing the video or her looks can look at the big picture in any situation. Is Chan trying to make a phenomenal groundbreaking video with cutting edge cinematography? No. She's never been one to perfectly package anything. It's about the music and the message. Also, she's getting older and people usually look different when they're older. It's not a negative thing. It's what happens to every human. She embraces who she is and doesn't hide anything. I think we're so used to criticizing every little movement or word a celebrity chooses that we can't focus on the message. She's human too. Should she just quit singing because people don't approve of her new look? Should she not explore her creativity and make videos? Let's not toss her out because she looks different. We're kind of miracles of biology and evolution. We're not pretty little packages and trophies. Stop shutting people and situations down because they don't meet some standard you've set up.

Very well articulated. I think she's an amazing artist who has certainly battled with all kinds of issues. I am going to see her in February at a small, intimate theatre venue, & I'm very curious to see her latest incarnation. This video reminds me of Vibe Tribe/Burning man/Tank Girl, so it makes me smile. I wonder why so many folk like to criticise her?

Look, Cat Power has been keeping it real for 9 albums straight. And, a would agree that her music is very "real". Listen to He War, she was barely able to play or sing but, regardless, you knew she meant every note and every word. A true independent, self motivated, and honest artist.

I believe some fans of her expect her to stay the same all her life, with long dark hair or whatever, that's silly. No person stays the same for ever, because clearly, new stages in life change us in the inside and outside. And I really can see how musically she evolved and tried something new, it was time for a change since 1998! And she did it spectacularly! Drum machine included, yay.

I take that back, revolutionary minds evolve with the times, constantly re inventing themselves, I have listened to this tune a hundred times this past week, I dig it even more everytime I listen to it... Fair enough, not worth arguing over :) . When I began listening to Cat Power in the mid-nineties Chan referred to Cat Power as her band, or project; but yes, it's turned into a moniker for herself over the years.
I dig the new tune, not so stoked on the androgyny aspect, but whatever... it's a free country, the path of self discovery is one of experimentation, often coming full circle.. You are a beautiful young lady, inside & out, be yourself, your voice is heavenly... I listen to @ least one Cat Power song every single day, longing for siompler times back in ATL's L5P, "where the FREAKS kept the truly dangerous folks out", urban tribe. One peace, one tribe, one love..

Chan nos está mostrando que estamos rodeados de personas que se han dejado dominar por el sistema en el que vivimos (zombie inconsciente). Ella se ve a si misma rescatándonos hacia un nuevo mundo lleno de amor y confianza (representado por los amigos con los cuales se encuentra). Cat Power must have a great sense of humor to be opening up for LDR, lol. LDR's got a nice voice, and her music is cool if you're really, _really_ into the whole doomed starlet trope, but I mean....there's really no comparison.

A very cool take on the traditional battle of "good vs. evil." However, Ms. Marshall throws in a twist - figuring out who is on which side is harder than you think. On top of that, the battle is not be be fought on your own, but in community. And trusting others is a risk, but without trust, you're dead. The good news is that in the end, the light beats the darkness. (Hence, the album title, SUN.)

She's evolved. She's livelier. She's decided to embrace past, present & whatever future. She took a risk, a big one I think, but the result is quite positive to me. One couldn't imagine her recording the same things over & over again... I think that her previous records (excepting "Moon Pix) were all getting boring. Now she's able to surprise. I wouldn't have chosen Zdar as producer but the songs, the intentions are there.
