Amp 1 DBG Vox Clean (and also) DBG Vox Dirty
Amp 2 DBG Fender Bassman
Amp 3 DBG Orange Crunch
Amp 4 DBG Marshall Plexi
Amp 5 DBG Treadplate Metal
The Real MVP, cheers mate!
G'man Doug
Thank you ! Is highly appreciated
thank you sir!
Just downloaded them. Thanks a lot
I didn't realize you did SPARK tutorials because there's so many. You're the best.
Nice of you to think of us Spark owners and share your settings, Thanks Darrell...
A month later and this little amp continues to impress!
Which amp was your favorite tone?
Spark link: bit.ly/31g7Ego
I’ve had mine for just about two weeks now and can’t stop playing it. I’m so impressed with it. This is the best practice amp and tool I’ve ever had. I can’t recommend it more.
How much money did you get for that comment?
Ralph Rutschmann Thats funny bro! Yeah it does sound like an add. It’s not. I’m genuinely happy with it. I’ve been playing since the early 90s. After getting this little practice amp I’ve been playing way more daily. It’s a convenience factor. I don’t have to plug in my board and mess with my amps. I can just plug into the spark and jam while sitting on the couch.
Did you guys get a weird noise issue with yours
@@calebscrazyamazinglife1795 I had got one of the very first runs of them. Mine might have been from the very first release. I didn’t experience that issue. I ended up ordering another for my 18 year old nephew about 5 or 6 months after I had gotten mine. He did tell me he was getting a static type noise or something similar. I didn’t get to hear it in person. He lives in a different state than I do. I had suggested to him at the time that it could be either a grounding issue or a dirty power issue. I know he has a Monster clean power suppressor for his computer and entertainment center. I had suggested he plug into one of the clean power ports and to also look up guys having any grounding problems with their later revision models. I’m pretty sure there were some people out there that had used a different power supply and remedied theirs. My nephew never complained about his again after and I’m not sure what he had done to fix it. I’m hoping it was as simple as moving it to cleaner electrical outlet. When I hear from him I’ll find out for sure. If you find a solution I’d like to know what you did. Thanks.
Hi I would like settings for the Shadows Hank Marvin sound. Thankyou
Hey man, I've said it before, but tones are what really motivate me to keep playing. I've always sort of grew up wanting to get amazing and killer tones! Awesome work!
Same here. I have a practise Orange amp and in a few months I already bought about 10 pedals
I have a Spark amp and usually use the Friedman amp settings for rock music. Love playing along to tracks on you tube.
My Spark finally came and it is so worth the wait !
Great tones and the app to jam with makes this the most valuable piece of gear I own because using the Spark actually helps improve and progress my playing .
I was surprised by this amp. It's worth every penny. I expected it would take over a month to arrive but it was here in 3 weeks. It puts out a lot of bass.
It took that long for you?
I pre-ordered it when it came out.
Ordered mine in mid February, recieved it last week (mid Aug)... almost 6 months to the day. Anyway the wait was worth it. I can't believe what a full sound it has and I can't believe how small it is! Super powerful and really amazing. Aparently Positive Grid have them in stock at the moment, so people ordering now don't need to wait as long. If you were to buy one, I think you'll be happy.
You’re lucky. I ordered mine in early February as well. Wouldn’t turn on right out of the box. PG’s customer service has been horrible taking weeks to get a response.
@@goldbug1974 really? what a shame tho
Same here
As I watch more videos on this Spark amp, the more I'm convinced that it's a great amp to get. 👍👍👍
Really enjoyed this video. I'm a quarantine player, picked up a spark at the suggestion of a friend. I'm having fun with the smart jam feature but I'm still learning how all the pedals interact. I would love to see a video like this about the different effects and how to use them together.
The AC30 is one of my favorites on the amp too! My video of the Spark vs THR10II comes out in a couple of hours! Great video!
and it sounds great on the spark. i find those sounds are the hardest to recreate on modelers. i might have to get one
Watching from the Philippines btw im just a teen filipino who loves your channel and your contents keep up the great work Sir Darell!!! Much love from the PH 🇵
Great demo. This is how I like to hear things-basic foundation tones. Too many reviewers stack too much stuff on at once. I just wanna hear the straight forward sounds like I’d use 90% of the time. Thanks.
The most useful Spark video I’ve ever seen. Some users want 8 million different variations; I just want somebody to tell me how to get the best amp sounds possible out of a modeler. I spend way too much time trying to find a sound I like, when I could be improving my playing. Was about to sell everything😜- including my Pod Go; nothing bad to say about that but I’ve wasted countless hours messing with sounds - but now I’m going to work with my Spark Mini, your five featured amps, and my Powercab 112 Plus to settle on half a dozen righteous sounds. Thank you so much Darrell!!! I also owe the purchase of my two VOLA guitars (fantastic! and what value for the money!) to your reviews. Thanks for everything you do!
My only - final - wish would be for all the settings you used for the effect pedals in these sounds (or, as another use suggested, you would upload these five presets to ToneCloud). I desperately want what modelers can provide, but without all the hassle.😂
Guess I should go look at ToneCloud to see if you already did it, huh? 😂
You should upload your tones to Tone Cloud
And tag them please like "DarrelBraunGuitar", cause you can`t search for names/author in Tone Cloud like "Positive Grid" yet!? But it would be an improvement!
Please upload to tone cloud 👍🏻😊
yes please! came here to ask the same
Yes, please
Please?! ;)
I’m really enjoying my spark so far. I agree that it’s super dark. I almost always have the bass all the way or almost all the way down and the treble up. The kid is really the place to tune your tone. What I really like though is that I can get a really good inspiring tone at super low volume. I live in a thin walled apartment so that’s important for me.
I got this amp about a month ago, just freaking love it!
i finally revived my Spark, as mad as I was waiting for it, I have to admit, it's great to use--thanks for the video--been jamming off my phone (only) but will definitely hook it up to the computer and try some recording and loops--thanks for the inspiration.
I guess I can quit calling them Negative Grid now--it was worth the wait (But just barely)
I work since 2 years with a modelling pedal. It does everything I need including all effects and via USB recording. Its fun if you have different guitars you can have a good clean/crunch/overdrive sound for each of them and switch between with the push of a button.
which pedal is that, please
@@rst4641 I use two, my prefered one is the Digitech RP360 XP with the additional 3 button footswitch and my backup is a Mooer GE 200. You can listen to some of the music I made with it on my youtube profile page. Its nothing fancy but it shows the sounds in an "average" environment by an "average" guitarist.
@@countblue thanks for your reply!
Best Spark Demo, sounds great...I do not know why other Spark Demos the sounds are distant and diffuse, here sound in your face and great!
The ones that record through the USB sound far superior to me.
because everyone uses a mic to the speaker and in here you can hear the amp directly through the usb connection
man, these sounds are SO dope - the amp models and fx on this things are amazing 😄
I have a Spark and absolutely love it!!! I have several tube amps, Mesa Dual Rec, EVH 5150 iii, Peavey 5150, etc... I really love my Spark and my Katana MKII 100 watt head. I run the Katana in to a Marshall 1960A 412. Want to run the Spark through the Katana, using the Katana as a 100 watt power amp. Can’t wait to see how it sounds like that.
Did you do it yet?
Looks like you are enjoying the Spark Darrell... Cannot wait for mine to arrive :-)
Great demo, Darrell! And let's give an assist to that Schecter Nick Johnston HSS - I bought one based in part on your Superstrat shootout and it is absolutely divine!
Recently received my Spark after 6 months, 2 weeks and 2 days on the wait. Well worth the wait. The biggest problem you'll have is what to do with your other practice amps! Some killer tones! The Presonus HD-9 headphones are a must for 24-7 playing. Pick some up at your local music retailers! Love your work, Darrell! I think it was called the Spark to Spark new musical ideas for learning.
Darrell, thx for the video. I got mine about 2 months ago. I wish i'd known about it earlier because it have been invaluable to get me thru the NZ total lockdown. It is a great product. Anyway - a tip for you. Instead of clicking on the effects pedal and then click the on / off switch you can actually swipe up or down on the icon of the pedal which will turn it off or on. When the icon is in full colour it's on, when it is "dulled" it is off. A great tip dont you think ?
Thanks for this. I got my Spark about a week ago and haven’t even scratched the surface with it.
I bought the spark after your review. It arrived today and this video pops up! Perfect timing!
Darrell, thanks a ton for showing us what the Spark can do! Mine will ship end of the month, so please keep these tutorials coming. It will be interesting to play my Vox AD15VT up against the Spark. Really appreciate the info!
Please do a video comparing the spark vs the r real amp
My spark finally arrived about a month ago, got killer tones right out of the box before even using the app. Ended up getting hooked on the American High gain, not even sure what that it is supposed to emulate. This amp never lets me down, the tone is always there unlike many amps that seem to sound different everyday.
Please do some more videos of all the cool tones and amp combos you come up with or find. It would be cool if you just periodically did videos of neat things to do with it or new updates for it. Awesome video my friend!
I just ordered my Spark. The companion modes put it over the top for me for a modelling amp. I'm usually a tube snob, but the portability and automatic drum/bass are neat.
have fun waiting five months !
@@haus05 Nah. Only 2 weeks. I've been loving it so far.
Darrell, I purchased my spark amp about 2 years ago and I am still trying to get more familiar with the many, many different tones included in the amp, short of even traveling into the realm of the cloud. Let me clarify that a bit. I am really old school, 60"s, late 60's when I started teaching myself how to play. Never really played with a band, although some friends and I tried, it just never worked out! Back then my equipment was a pre-CBS Fender Tele, and a 100 watt Silvertone amp. Clean as pedals were just starting to evolve, i.e., The Maestro Distortion and Cry Baby Wah, but at the time, who could afford them, unless you were Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, etc.. But then life got in the way of my playing. Until our son wanted to learn Bass. That is when I restarted my interest. But then life got in the way 2 years ago, with a heart attack the required 6 by-passes, and 2 other arteries cleaned out. Now, it is difficult for me to even try to finger barre chords and finger chords, and that sucks because now I have a lot of time to practice, and the instruments to use, and can't really!
Nice touch with the intro riff to Driven by Rush.
Love my Spark. Continually amazed on the depth of tones nuances and subtle to dramatic adjustability of its musically beautiful tones from clean to dirty.
Thanks for these videos they have saved me time in finding the right tones I want etc. I love my spark. I have had so much fun playing on it. For the price it's amazing. I'm lucky I guess since I just recently purchased it and there was no delay in shipping. I really wish they would make the app available in windows. Using a cell phone is problematic for me due to my eyesight. Emulators don't seem to handle the Bluetooth. dialing the knobs is problematic at best on my phone. So now I'm shopping for a tablet that will work without breaking my bank.
You really really always motivate me playing guitar, you're the person who make my mind to decide! That I really really need guitar😅 yeahhh God bless! Keepsafe sir
Ordered a Spark, should be
here @ end of month/Sept. Thank you for this informative presentation.
I love that you sneaked the Driven riff in there. You get to keep your Canadian citizenship! :P
Thanks for talking about the audio interface capability. I have been playing around with my Spark for the past few weeks, and I hope to have time to hook it up to my PC this weekend.
Were you using the provided PreSonus recording software?
I love this amp ive had it for awhile, its always updating. Thanks for the knowledge on tones! Also Darrell a quick tip you can use your finger to swipe up and down on the icons to quickly turn off pedals.
I'd love to sample your amp settings. I've had my Spark for about a month (ordered in Feb) and am finding myself playing it more than my Fender Blues Jr. Love the clean tones that come out of this too!
loved the Rush riff at around 7:10!!!!
It does what it says on the tin. Show me a guitar player who hasn't had fun with this amp and I'll show you a liar. Great video, I'll be stealing these tones to make noise with.
I waited 7 month to get mine. It won’t turn on at all. No response from customer service for 3 weeks. Pretty much a waste of cash. When they finally got around to contacting me they said they’ll send me a replacement when they have them in stock.
@@goldbug1974 The issues with the Spark are well known. They have tried to release and market a product in the worst year in most of our memories. Massively underestimated demand and haven't been able to cope. I expected a six month wait, receive after five. The amp is fine, and pretty much does everything they claim. Sorry you got a dud. It happens, although the ethics of the marketing strategy and customer service is open to question. Don't give up on the amp, it's a great piece of kit.
@@goldbug1974 When I finally got mine the guitar input didn't work out of the box. It took 3 weeks to get a working replacement. Good luck hope you get what you paid for soon.
Thanks for sharing ! Just got my control pedal. Still waiting on the Spark mini heh 😅! Great channel!
I think they are amazing amps. Got my review coming out soon. Keep the videos going Darrell love em.
Hey I’m early for once. Love your stuff Darrell you’re doing Canada proud my man!
True north strong bud!
I have the Spark amp and love it so much I sold my Vox AC 10. No more replacing worn out expensive amp tube$ and have many more amps to choose from.
Just got my Spark in pearl white! I love it! The Soldono amp tone is amazing!!
New owner of an Eastman 59/v, a Spark and now..... looking forward getting my Shijie blue relic, SSH/stainless next week. I'm a happy boy!
I’d really like to try out an Eastman 59, been eyeing them up for a while now.
@@Almost_Baked I've been playing for over fifty years - Gibsons, Fenders, PRSs, Jackson, Ibanez....... The Eastman is my favorite sounding and playing guitar. The craftmanship is second to non - it really is a work of art. It gives me attitude. I have no regrets whatsoever.
Did you get the antique finish or the glossy?
Hey Darrel. You're guitar skills and knowledge is amazingly helpful for us. Lots of love from India.❤️
Great Stuff! Received mine a few weeks ago, but haven't had time to dig in. Planning on it during the next week.
Thanks Darrel. Keep these little short spark videos coming! USB direct to computer for recording, but is using the phones out to an audio interface a worthy option as well?
I borrowed a Spark 40 from a friend to make sure I liked it as well as I did in his studio. I do. It's actually loud enough to use on many of the smaller venues we play!
I decided to buy one. Filled out their order form with my newer (1 year) address. It was shipped to my old address, which I did NOT even give them!
Their tracking showed it had been delivered, but was nowhere to be found, so wanted to call to find out what the problem was when I discovered THEY DON'T HAVE A PHONE NUMBER!!
Their "customer service" is, send an email and wait a day or two! Then talk (via two day email) to someone who can't help you. Upon researching, I found LOTS of complaints about their customer service!
I'm thinking of sending it back (IF it ever arrives). Even though I like the amp, customer service is VERY important to me, and I don't want to do business with a company who won't provide a phone number, even if it's answered by a well-trained person in India or The Philippines.
just letting y'all know.
I like my Spark. The amp models are good for the price. Really wish you would/could have done a side by side comparison of the models versus the real amps.
Ditto ditto ditto
Darrell, thank you so much for this helpful video!!
In fact, we are more willing to hear what it sounds like through its speakers. could you please record a demo with a condenser mic set in some distance away from the speakers, making it sounds as similar as what you actually hear in the room? thx~
IGM thanks for some tone maps. Always a good show.
I would like to see a review of the spark which is not sponsored. Good video by the way
There are more than a few out there just need to look...
I've had my Spark for about a month now. I'm working on jazz guitar playing and only use a clean tone with no effects and it still sounds really good.
I liked the cleans, too, but I got rid of the amp after a couple weeks due to muddy distorted tones(to my ears).
Well now. Nice demo! Really didn't expect the Spark to deliver in this way. Now I miss my '75 OR120 😁
I ordered the spark early July and it came a couple of days ago, seems like they have a grip on supply now, and have gotten through their pre-order backlog, given it was free delivery and I'm in Australia, it's not too bad a wait now.
Nice! I don't even have an electric guitar yet and I ordered one yesterday. I've only had my acoustic for 2 weeks and I already want an electric too. I think I want to get an Ibanez RG370 or RG421. Not sure about whether to avoid the tremolo or not. And HSH vs HH pickups...
Same for me : received in 3 weeks
It really is an awesome little amp. Well worth the money!
That was very informative. Gives me an idea of which amps are being hinted at with the funny names LOL. Thanks!
On the of website they have all the names of the amps now
Positive grid website. I hate my spell correct
Love the Nick Johnson signature strat. Its been on my list for a minute. Always been a schecter fan
As a new Spark owner, this is really helpful! Well done
So you like it?
I do! Sounds great and tons of features.
I purchased a spark for my son who's learning to play guitar and it arrived a couple of weeks after I purchased it. I was expecting it to take longer from what I'd seen on some forums. Anyway I had an issue with the power supply and the customer service was just amazing from Positive Grid. I don't usually review online but I felt like I had to just because they have been so awesome. They always get back to you with emails within a few hours. Ive now gone and wasted a heap of cash I didn't really need to spend on a second Spark for myself and Bias FX 2 to use inside the box with Logic.
I love your videos! They inspire me to practice more!
Great video! Enjoyed the different amp styles.
If I order Spark now, by the tine it will arrive, the new upgraded version will out..
I got mine in 2 weeks.
I ordered August 10th and it arrived the 25th of August.
You must be a youtuber or blogger. I hear they prioritize those who can help them review the amp. Anyways, I am going for the THR 30 ii wireless instead.
@@abd-ix5qd not at all.
Got mine today. 2 weeks.
I just ordered one of these. Hopefully it arrives this year.
I ordered end of June had it delivered in under 4 weeks.
Just ordered mine as well. I think they saw all of the negative feedback from the people who preordered it at the beginning of the year, and are now really promptly pushing them out. Especially with this sale they have going on, feel like they’re really trying to push em. It said 5-12 business days for me.
Yes they are getting them out much faster now!
I'm loving my Spark amp, highly recommended. bought it a few weeks before this vid went up.
It'd be nice if the physical knobs were up front instead of the back. But pairing with my phone kind of makes them irrelevant.
Also, the handle seems like a cheap afterthought. Maybe a small metal handle on top would be better.
Agree 100%! It is hard to see knob settings on amp itself, especially if you angle speakers up towards your ears.
Totally agree. Absolutely LOVE my Spark! Marshall emulation is probably my favorite and getting to play around with all the different pedals. Someone suggested using a guitar strap for a handle, perhaps if mine should break in the future that’s what I’ll do! Also wondering already if PG is going to do a next gen Spark.
@@chadman7983 I heard they had them in stock now. So you shouldn't have to wait 4 months like I did. It was worth it.
@@waskele.wabbit717 ok
@@DayOneAdeleFans I saw a guy use a leather studded kids belt that was easily adapted to work perfect and cost about $12.
I've only been waiting a week for mine... Thanks for the Video.
What I love about using it as an audio interface, I have the positive grid software (Bias FX 2) but it eats up processor power etc., especially when you have multiple instances of it running. Being able to have those Sounds without using computer resources is phenomenal!
Bless you for saving me hours of trial and error - you rock!
Still sounds like a modeller vs a nice tube amp to me, but it sounds really good. For the current 25% off price it's a must buy imo. I hate usb direct, so micing it would prob fool me vs a real tube amp on some settings. I wonder if it'd be worth it for them to come out with a bigger head or combo version?
A modeller that sounds/feels exactly as a real tube amp is still not available (even tough a Kemper would probably fool me) ;), and especially not for this price. For what it is supose to do I believe nothing can compare to the Spark. Still not that many videos out there that sounds terrible, and even this one recorded directly sounds great. So for a tool to help me practice in my appartment I think it will be great. For everything else I go with my amp :D
Fully agree, people that expect a good tube feel for this money will be disappointed (and imho they have a limited sense of realism :-) ). But for what it is supposed to be and the price I think it sounds pretty good.
Love your patches!!
Nice and versatile, a very impressive amp! Nice review, Darrell.
Great video, very informative. Loving the amp and the jam features. Do any of you guys know which amp replicates the Peavey range?
Dammit darrel. I thought i had my mind made up about an amp. Now i like this.
Thank you. Coolest toy I have bought in a while!
Hey Darrell... Just ordered my SPARK yesterday. Can't wait for it to get here Brother! Thumbs up as usual from me... Stay safe... Rico
All this for under $300 is amazing. I definitely want one, just to get into learning how to play, without spending a fortune on an amp and pedals
Super useful thanks Darrell
Thanks Darrell, loved this one! I'm loving my Spark and you picked some great tones to share. Can I find these on the Tone Cloud?
I'll consider version 2 if they put a cab input on it... And are able to meet the demand in a more timely manner.
I would love to see a demo of the Music Man Stingray. I’ve always loved the looks of the guitar, but I would like to hear your view on it, because you are my favorite and go to guitar RUclipsr. Would be cool
I love my Spark. Awesome piece of equipment.
Just ordered mine today...thanks!
A question:
You said that all these great settings and pedals are built into the actual amp. So... does that mean I do NOT need to or DO need to download the driver's from th website? I work totally from the home doing Sync Licensing (can no longer perform live sadly) so am curious as this sounds like an awesome tool for Sound Design related recordings for Sync.
Thanks.
Marty
I dig this little amp. It has its issues, (Midi, Loop, DI Only on usb with it doing tone to speakers ) but works for so little $$. Look up spark amp pedal mod
It's funny because I have been using COSM amp modeling from Boss and although it can produce great sounds, there is no way I can compare it to the real thing side to side and say they nailed it, and besides, wouldn't you get different results depending on the amp you push the modeler through as well as your amp settings?
On the Spark, it makes sense since the modeler is the amp, but even then, you would have to consider speaker types and other subtleties.
Either way, this amp looks like a must have. One would think the focus on the other features would take away from the quality of the tones, but you just demonstrated that it is not the case. Great video!
Thats why you pit modelers through full range speakers. Only color comes from the modeler...come on...you should know this. Some ppl like adding color to their modeler tho
@@robertreynolds9961 Why should I know this as if it was common knowledge? It's not as if they told me to use it on a full range speaker when I bought the thing, or in the demos I watched. Also, I was talking about a side to side comparison as if I had a Mesa Boogie, Marshall, Fender, etc. at my disposal. When I started playing guitar, I was playing through a 10w Ibanez bass practice amp, which I'm sure isn't the best rig but I was able to get tones I enjoyed playing with and that was the important part. The JC-120 has to be the optimal output seeing as it was their staple at the time but I don't have one. I guess the closest I can get would be through headphones but even then headphones can sound vastly different from one pair to another, so full range speaker or not, "close enough" is the best I can hope for.
I have the pearl edition and love it, a lot of fun. 👌🏼
Great vid....LOVE MY SPARK. Took 7+ months but it delivers. But! Just here to ask - for the opening riff at Amp 5...was that a bit of Rush's DRIVEN you snuck in there? XD
Wow they were all so good. I am looking for something with a lot of effects. Do you think I should go with the amp like this or a multi-effects pedal such as the Mooer GE200? I have already bought a Fender Mustang LT25. Thank you very much and I love your channel :)
sounds like a tone master. it’s a win.
I own a Spark and really like it. However, I will say this: It's a DARK amp. I find myself cutting the bass and boosting the treble on almost every amp or rig. For $225 it's still an amazing bargain and I recommend it. Just know going in that you're going to need to brighten things up a bit.
Yep
@@bobbyosborne2375 yeah but I noticed with headphones on it isn't dark which is the way it would sound recorded with USB.
I also think a speaker stand would improve the darkness. I used to have thd and a Dr.z 2 speaker cab, and when set on floor it sounded dark. Then I got a speaker stand. Problem solved
I got mine yesterday. 3 weeks from order. So far so good
Once again! AMAZING VIDEO! Thanks again !!
