Positive grid say they will get back to me as they're busy with lots of calls on their support team for spark cab... waiting to hear about others with this problem.

    Last week I received the PG CAB and I was disappointed! I got the PG Mini in spring 23 and it's awesome! Since then I'm jamming every single day along with endless backing tracks I found in the www. It's soooo much fun cause it's sounds fantastic. The guitar-sound fits perfect to the backing tracks. With other gear I always had that feeling that the guitar sounds cheap and loses it's tonal character. Now it sounds like a recorded guitar amp and you can hear clearly the difference between a strat or a hollowbody. What a great gear! It brought me back to guitar and I spent so many hours with it since it came to my house. - Now came the PG CAB and my expectations were high. When I plugged in I was really disappointed! The backing track sounded distorted and the guitar cheap and annoying. I had the volume of the cab at full... Then I turned it back to half and it sounded great. It sounds good up to 3/4. Erverything above is not acceptable. My conclusion: I'm still a little bit disappointed. It's not as loud as I thought it would be with 140 W on board and it's far away to use it in a band context. I can not use the whole volume range cause everything above 3/4 sounds crappy. And there's a constant humming when you turn the unit on... I should mention that it looks great . But in comparison to the PG Mini Amp it stays way behind (soundwise). This one really blews me away!

    • @bentframe3
      @bentframe3 11 месяцев назад +6

      you need to turn your contour switch OFF at higher volumes, on at lower volumes. You also can't have the spark volume too loud as its acting as a digital preamp and will distort. It does not like to be driven like a tube amp.

      @wbertie2604 3 месяца назад

      It's Watts plus speaker sensitivity and cabinet design. FRFR designs tend to have lower sensitivity to achieve the flat response, especially in such a small box. The extreme example is bookshelf hifi speakers which don't even have much bass response below 100Hz but rarely have a sensitivity above 90dB at 1W, 1m. 140W into a typical 1x12 guitar speaker you'd need need almost 1000W RMS to replicate on a bookshelf speaker!
      You're slightly better looking at the maximum SPL rating which is 117dB at 1m for the Spark Cab. Take that with a pinch of salt as it doesn't mention the frequency sampling standard or power amp distortion level for that measurement. Something like a Vox AC30 should pump out about 115dB. So it's going to be roughly as loud as that playing an AC30 patch emulating power tube compression as you'll want to leave about 3dB of headroom on the Spark.
      If you add a second one it should gain you about 6dB if placed correctly relative to the first.
      I primarily play bass and I consider my amp plus one 1x15 cab just about enough to be safe at a small to moderate gig (anything bigger should have FOH support) and that's 122dB max. So that's two Spark Cabs. Maybe one on something small, if I went the FRFR route. My amp plus one cab weigh 35lbs together, so two Spark Cabs are the heavier option. If I wanted to play with something other than bass the Spark might sound better even given my amp and cabs are fairly flat response.

    Metallica went digital already and is in the last Rick beato conversation with kirk. Tube amps with the "in the room" sound are beautiful and irreplaceable, but the convenience of a digital processor on tour is something that will be popular as well. I think you should have both, a valve amp with attenuator at home/studio and a digital rig for the stage and touring, maybe a blend/capture of your own amps and a good IR from the cabs you own or like, that is the perfect combination.

    • @DudeMcGuybro
      @DudeMcGuybro Год назад +3

      Being able to pick from hundreds of digital cabs on the fly is much easier than carrying them into the venue... lol. Tube amps are great for practice, or home jam. It's really hard to find a place and a reason to carry them around over a digital setup anymore. Big, heavy, much more difficult to maintain, hard to find people who know how to work on them, etc.
      Don't get me wrong, I love tube amps, I just think they're going away unfortunately. However the replacement is just as good, if not better than the original. I'm sure if you showed these to Leo Fender, or Jim Marshall they'd lose their minds lol.

    • @aphotosyntheticworld
      @aphotosyntheticworld Год назад +2

      I'd argue it's great for a home studio as well. If you spend time dialing in a good clean amp platform you can track great sounding guitar with your existing pedalboard and plenty of headroom without bothering your neighbors. Great way to get a variety of tones with a small desktop amp that can jack right into your interface.

    I've been rocking the same Spider IV 75 for about 12 years (give or take), and I've been using pretty much the same 5 or 6 tones to play EVERY song. I have a Boss GT10 footpedal, but as diverse as that is, it's just clunky to use so lives in a drawer and doesn't see the light of day. Seeing the Positive Grid Spark app, and knowing I can just look up a specific song/artist and play almost identical tones IMMEDIATELY, I couldn't resist a rig overhaul.
    I'm getting the Spark for Christmas to sit primarily on my desk in my Home Office and, provided I have an excellent experience, I'll get the CAB in a few months to sit upstairs with the guitars for when I feel like permanently deafening myself. Based on this, I reckon Reverb will be seeing a GT10 and a Spider IV 75 in a few months time...

    A correction at 19 mins Pete, you can't plug a mic into it and get anything useful as the volume is extremely low when plugging a mic directly into it. It would probably need an external mixer to get any volume from a vocal mic and it only works from an audio signal coming from an external device. Another useful thing is that the spark input also works fine from a 3.5mm audio cable from any mp3 type device.

    The point of the Spark and things like it is to play quietly, to be convenient with built in effects, and to sound basically OK for practice. For somebody who wants or needs to get into 90db+ like practice with others, maybe even with drums, small gigs, ect it seems like getting a decent quality smallish amp would make a lot more sense than dumping more money into mediocre practice device to simply make mediocre louder.

      @coletonbelew6475 Have you ever owned a really good tube amp? And I don't mean a Blues Junior, or a Hot Rod, or some equivalent mid level Marshall. By mediocre I'm not saying it sounds horrible, a good player can/ should get pretty decent sounds out of just about anything, I'm simply saying that it lacks something compared to a really quality tube amp and as one heads in the direction of $1000 I think for some people it might be worth it to go a bit nicer still.

    Please correct me if I'm wrong but with the Spark Go can I go headphone out to my Joyo Bantamp Bluejay hooked up to my Celestion V30 in a cab? Would that work? The Bantamp Bluejay is a very clean amp. Appreciate any feedback. Thing is I really only want the benefit of the amps, effects and jamming features from the PG Spark Go which is why I dont see the need to get the 40 or even the mini if I can amplify the Go as described above. Cheers.

    I’m never going to play in a band. I have a lot of $, but very little time. Sometimes I want to plug in and have the tone’s ready. Eric Johnson, done. John Mayer, done. Peter Green, ready. All within 3 minutes. I don’t have the time to tweak. For this reason, positive grid is perfect.
    Do I really sound like John Mayer? Of course not. But neither does the guy with the Fender Reverb who’s probably cringing right now.

    Don't stop playing in between the change. Start playing and just keep playing while he engages the cab. It'll be easier to hear the difference if it changes right in the middle of a note or riff.

      I think you can plug any line level signal. Both Katanas have a line level output. But note that it is different than the Speaker Out in the Katana head, where you would plug a non powered cab.

    • @joesatchton212
      @joesatchton212 Год назад +2

      Well, I haven't tried this at all but some hopefully thoughts for you to consider with this cab:
      - specs and theoretically, as shown here with the GP200, anything with XLR/combo input will work. It's just and amplified FRFR cabinet.
      - that said, for sure, PG with all of these Spark products has kinda chosen to go with a more bass biased sound signature. That was the case with the OG Spark 40, then the Mini and even to a limited extend the tiny Go. That kind of tuning is pretty understandable for the core purpose for those products which will be for home practice as desktop practice amps.
      That kind of fuller, bottom end tone is just pleasing to most everyone.
      But in a mix with a live band, that kind of sound signature is going to be problematic.
      - So I would think that with things like the GP200, Helix, HX Stomp, whatever digital mfx unit, it might be useful to tweak your presets a bit in terms of the low end you've set, especially if you want to run through this cab or even similar FRFR cabs that may have their own kind of tuning signature.
      Not judging this at all. Just throwing out some objective observations - I'm an OG Spark 40 and while I do think that overall, it is still the "best" desktop practice amp on the market in terms of price, features and performance. Nothing can touch the OG Spark 40 in terms of price - tones - features.
      Cheers and good luck! I'm sure this cab can sound pretty great with the input presets tweaked for the right purposes.
      :D

      I've tried this with a Neural Quad Cortex, it can be bloody loud - but it's pretty lightweight, small and a fairly standard FRFR as it goes. It tends to be a bit 'boomier' on the bass side when using overdriven tones but otherwise I'm quite impressed.

  • @pepeowen

    Okay, if you put the mic in front of the mini it would also sound better. That mic is too far from the mini speaker to get a realistic idea of how it sounds, but I get the concept. I have the mini and it's fun, but it's not great. I can see the cab working with other modellers even better.
