  • That's who secretly raised Naruto after the death of Minato and Kushina - Naruto Shippuden
This question’s worked its way around the internet a couple of times, getting asked on Stack Exchange, Reddit, and various other Naruto discussion boards on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, we have only a small bit of material to work from here, so there’s very little more than speculation that can be supplied about Naruto’s infancy.

I think the single person in the village that took care of naruto most. Was the Ramen guy. Such an under appreciated character for real. That man knew how the village saw naruto. And never refused him service. Always made sure he was eating. I remember reading that the reason naruto loves Ramen is because the shop was the only place he felt kindness as a child. And that hits somewhere deep.
On a side note I need to rewatch naruto. It's been a while

I always thought Naruto growing up in isolation was drastically unrealistic. I know people might be afraid of him because of the 9 tails, but who in their right mind would let someone like that grow up without a rock solid family and support network? The village is almost unbelievably lucky he didn't go on a rampage at age 7.

    • @CaptainFALKEN
      @CaptainFALKEN Год назад +68

It's more realistic than it seems. This is also Japanese. In America, the kid would be swept up and made into a millionare in Hollywood. In other countries, some kids are really on their own. Men in general become on their own even when they don't know it. Because there's a time when people just stop caring. He has to go out and make something of himself, and that means cutting ties with deadweights or naysayers holding him back. And having deadweight hobbies, people or things around is like driving a car with the handbrake on

    • @Infamouswiseman
      @Infamouswiseman 11 месяцев назад +45

@@CaptainFALKEN I don't think this is the same though. Naruto is neglected essentially from birth. There's no get it on your own when the whole village hated him, not indifferent. No one even helped him with the basics, if you recall, he struggles with something as simple as the clone and not a single person takes the effort.
Naruto is the only heir of the fourth Hokage who literally sacrificed his whole family to protect the village and their military strength(tailed beast), Leadership and select Jonin know this. I get he only has 50% of Kurama but to have one of your strongest assets, essentially someone who's nobility, completely uncared for, barely tended to, and untrained is wreckless. You can say Anbu was watching him but the level of his pranks shown early suggest this was occasionally at best. Replace Naruto as the target for the Hyuga affair and they would have lost him + he had no loyalty to even attempt coming back. Guaranteed Stockholm syndome with any attention.
Literally insane luck no one could peice together who Naruto was. Spitting image of Minato, bares the name Uzumaki (a destroyed clan with few straglers), the only line to host the nine tailes + the last name of Minato's wife and due to his features you can tell his isn't pure.

Even though he has the nine-tailed fox inside of him, he's still the honorable son of the Fourth Hokage, and the people who lashed out at him, rejected him, or treated him like a disease, should be ashamed of themselves. If Minato stayed alive and sealed the nine-tailed fox within himself, they wouldn't have treated him like that. @radsical1392 Год назад +77

Kakashi’s dad was gone before he was a genin which was like age 6? After that his closest parental figure was Minato. So Kakashi was grieving the loss of everyone he had ever loved. He was taking dangerous missions and was self destructive, bordering on suicidal. Plus he was still young, people forget Kakashi was still a teenager when Naruto was born. Tho Naruto canon is weird with dates and ages.
So Kakashi was in no way prepared to care for Naruto.
Also his childhood was barely a childhood. Kakashi was a Chuunin and fighting in a war before his teenage years. Plus his family name was insulted quite a lot because the village used Sakumo as a scapegoat for the 3rd Shinobi War. His “childhood” was probably as unpleasant as Naruto’s. He probably thought of Naruto’s treatment as slightly harsh but not outside the norm.
Also, he was a genius, even as a child…I mean a 6 year old should not be a capable fighter, but he was. So he probably couldn’t really understand the physical or emotional abuse Naruto was experiencing because he processes emotions and develops at a much different rate.
But most of all, the man lost everyone he loved, I’m sure he checked in on Naruto occasionally but he was too young and too depressed to care full time. Plus I don’t doubt that the Third and Danzo warned Kakashi away saying “if Minato’s student care for him, people will figure out his identity quicker and bring enemies after him.” That would be the final blow to Kakashi’s emotional state.
I love Kakashi cause he’s been through so much trauma but is still standing. He’s an interesting character with a Fascinating backstory.
I mean as a kid he invented jutsu’s and was so quick to develop. I think the trauma and the stupid Uchiha Eye stunted his growth. Age wise , the years post Kyuubi attack should have been his peak developmental years in terms of skills and capabilities…yet they weren’t, he stagnated…
      Truly an interesting character

Yes, then also he would be a double orphan after the massacre. Only if Itachi would spare his life along with Sasuke. Either way, the two would be great brothers, if they weren't reincarnations of Ashura and Indra, who were real brothers (but still fought one another).
Maybe the show would take another turn, but still some things would be the same. Naruto looking for Sasuke to come back to the village for years and things like that. But the show would pass another messages, symbolizing the problems of relatives and brothers. Yes, that also gets passed , but the creator made Naruto like this, so that he would represent glimpses of hope to the life of others. A ball of sunshine through the darkness.

@ashesofhopesinabonfireofdr6341 Danzo and the elders for sure. I think Hiruzen wasn't necessarily Danzo's whipping post, but he was outnumbered in regards to mentality. Hiruzen's aim was to prevent Naruto from finding out what happened to his parents, so he wouldn't lose control of Kurama. If Naruto had gone to live with Fugaku and Mikoto, do you really think they wouldn't have told him at some point? Considering how close Kushina and Mikoto seem to be in flashbacks, I think it would've been hard for Mikoto specifically to keep that from Naruto.
The relations between Danzo and Hiruzen is simply being former teammates. Danzo and Hiruzen weren't chummy, anything but actually. It wasn't from Hiruzen's lack of trying though. Hiruzen's bravery is the reason Danzo didn't become Hokage in the first place and Danzo never got over that, Hiruzen knows this. Unfortunately, like real politics, one vote doesn't take the cake and you can't just get rid of your opposition when they have support from other politicians. Taking out Danzo would've caused a civil war in the Leaf because Danzo did have supporters, even in the Feudal Lord's court. It would've save a lot of future trouble though... Konan, Nagato, Itachi, Fugaku, Mikoto, Shisui, OROCHIMARU, etc. wouldn't have ended up the way they did if it wasn't for Danzo. However, Hiruzen didn't know about the Hanzo and Orochimaru team-ups to my knowledge.

Personally I feel like Minato would have been disappointed knowing how Naruto was treated as a child. Many knew he was the child of Minato and even after their (very tragic and noble deaths I might say) should have treated him much better. Including pervy sage. I felt Naruto was failed by everyone as a child. While yes I’m sure they did that to build his character and to show how he achieved everything while being a orphan and alone, but let’s be honest if Minato and his mother knew how is childhood ended up and how and that even Jiraiya didn’t come to his life until way later I feel they would be upset. They died for the village and for their son and they treated naruto that way in return? Fuck that. Especially Jiraiya. He literally named Naruto after a character in his book. That was his godson basically. So where was he? I would be disappointed. Even Kakashi who, yes he became his teacher….but they were under the orders of the 3rd soooooo. I don’t understand why they could of just stopped the bullying from the village and at least have someone be there to raise him. Minato died for them all, it’s the least they could do.
Also I know many many knew who his father was. Even that episode when that villager said “isn’t that the killed who killed the 4th” like wtf and shame on the third for allowing his people to treat him that way while he watched in the distance. Throughout the series that’s what pissed me off the most.

Kakashi is the special case of "under any other circonstances",
He is just as much to blame as the other especially as a teacher since he didnt really teach em much besides a shaky notion of teamwork that Naruto had to teach the others afterward.
But no one sane including Kakashi would force a teenager currently in Anbu mentally unstable after failing in his own mind to protect any member of his team and if it wasnt for ANOTHER trauma from his father's suicide would most definitly consider the option to even try and raise Naruto.
Sure one could question why Kakashi didnt start once he left Anbu, but he left Anbu a short few years top before the story starts, and he has been forced out of Anbu, he is still just as messed up, he is just old enough to hide it behind the mask and his lazy persona.
Had Minato or Kushina lived, he'd have taken care of Naruto, even if they were just in a coma, the mere thought that they could be back would be enough.
Had Rin survived (wouldve said Obito too but like he is responsible for the deaths in the first place) he'd have taken care of Naruto, even if they were teenagers.
If essentially anything happened differantly in Kakashi's life, he'd have taken care of Naruto.
Jiraya is most definitly the one that escaped his responsability the most, at least Kakashi had the excuse of youth and not being fit in any capacity to raise a kid, but justifying not taking care of your grandson under the guise of keeping up a spy network who is far less efficient than Root at information gathering (didnt know anything clear about the Akatsuki while Danzo litteraly participated in their deaths a few years back like lol), doesnt work.

@luisemoralesfalcon4716 Which is why Hiruzen assigned Naruto to Iruka. As for the younger generation, they treated him no better than their parents did at first. Only difference is they turned to openly mocking him rather than doing it behind his back. The only person that never discredited Naruto was Hinata, who snuck away was before the Academy days just to watch him train despite what her handler and father said. Even Shikamaru and Choji, weren't his friends until right before they started at the Academy. Sasuke was open about his acceptance of Naruto, but it was there to a degree during the Academy days after his family was massacred. The rest didn't really accept him until they all became genin, they followed their parents example until they saw enough of his character to have a conflicting opinion. 🤷‍♀️ But that became Naruto's goal... and he accomplished it very well. He definitely could've been another Gaara had it not been for Hiruzen and Kakashi helping Iruka help Naruto though. Hiruzen gives Iruka the task, but Kakashi helps him understand the true purpose for that task. Iruka wouldn't have been able to help Naruto without them.

The thing is I related to his character maybe on a more minor lever but still. I was left out by everyone aswell and I had to work way harder than my siblings to even get a slight "Nice" from my parents.
When I stayed up till 12 studying so I could get A's on everything nobody cared. Though my older brother failed most of his classes and was taken out for ice cream when he got even a C. The few times I did get a C my parents went insane I was told I would amount to nothing and that I've failed them.
I was bullied by my father and brother aswell my father went as far to throw a knife at me one day. He'd done far worse and threatened to make my life hell if I told anyone, I didn't listen and he's kept his word.
I was hated by everyone at my school and faced bullying physical and verbal I have scars from this. Well everyone except for two people, my cousin and at the time my best friend. My cousin wasn't perfect but she was there for me, the only problem was I rarely saw her. My best friend defended me at school but eventually died due to a car crash.
Recently my family has been somewhat better but I still hate my very existence. The only reason I'm even here is due to my cat and the fact that I've finally got friends and someone I'm interested in.

He was probably brought up the first few years in a secret area to keep him from the limelight, for his own protection from both the village, and his father's enemies. Hence why the knowledge of the 4th having a child was buried.
And after a few years, Naruto was given an apartment, which Hiruzen would sometimes come over to look after him.
Unfortunately, Hiruzen knew he couldn't protect Naruto as much as he could have. He was stuck with politics, and Naruto's upbringing was essentially nothing but political. So Hiruzen would simply bring him the necessities, and had to teach him the basics of managing money, so that he could survive on his own, which was something harsh that Naruto had to learn, in the even of the Third dying.
It's probably also why Hiruzen would sneak out to spend time with him. He was under constant scrutiny, and he had to make a lot of hard calls, like the entire matter with the Hyuga, with Hinata's kidnapping and the death of Hizashi, Danzo's games, and the Uchiha's planned coup. It's also why he had to distance himself from Konohamaru as well, all the while wanting a relationship.
Plus, Hiruzen was an old man. He didn't have as much energy anymore, unable to truly keep up with him. He loved the village, and he was traumatized from the loss of Minato, unable to truly choose a successor. And of the three candidates he wanted to consider, one went mad Nazi scientist experimenting on humans, the next being a lech that never truly stood still, and preferred being a spy (Not to mention avoiding certain responsibilities) and the third candidate still being a basketcase from the death of her loved ones, and opting for a hedonistic lifestyle of gambling and avoiding debt collectors.
Hiruzen had to make hard calls. Just like Tobirama, hard calls had to be made. Tobirama inherited a mess, as well as a dangerous and constant threat to the leaf, and Hiruzen had to start by fighting a war, then a biblical disaster that destroyed the village the next time he had to step in.
Of the troubles listed above, two out of the three major issues would have been resolved before Tobirama's term, if Hashirama chose Tobirama, instead of threatening him, rather than choosing Madara. I'm harsh on Hashirama, because he created a mess, that Tobirama had to mitigate, Hiruzen had to make hard calls that had long lasting effects from Madara's threats, (And Tobirama had to kick the can down the road... He knew the Uchiha would pull a coup, but it wasn't because of his policies... He knew it was more to do with Madara's influence, and his charm... He had a silken tongue, and with how he controls people... It'd be easy to manipulate his own clan, and turn them against the rest of the village. So the Second had to set things up that the coup would be as controlled as possible, with the least amount of blood spilt. Under Madara, it wouldn't just be a coup... It'd be a Civil War.) Minato suffered the repercussions of Madara's machinations and breaking Obito, turning him into Tobi, and Tsunade was finally the one to finish dealing with all the problems with the mad Uchiha's tantrum.
It's a domino effect, and the reason why Naruto is alone is because of Hashirama and Madara.
And remember that some of his treatment wasn't any better in Tsunade's dream. Considering the characterisation was consistent with the characters themselves, he would have been judged either way.

    People are missing something here.
In the grand scheme of things, he is the new jinchuuriki of Kurama the 9 tails & the son of the 4th Hokage. During their time, jinchuurikis are considered a village's military super power. If he was taken cared of by someone esp by a family of the Hokage or by a prominent clan, people in the village will think he is important and potential spies from different villages will kidnap him and may end up losing Kurama and in the process, the strongest Hokage of the Hidden Leaf so far. Take note, his last name is Uzumaki, not Namikaze for the obvious reason to keep his identity a secret to the whole village.
He have to go through being an orphan, being all alone because that is also the grand plan and smokescreen of the village leaders to hide his importance to the whole village. And going through a lot in his childhood became his motivation to become the Hokage and to not take shortcuts. While Sasuke on the other hand sought revenge.
No matter what you go through in life, you can make decisions and you can always choose what is right.

To answer the question in my point of view Hiruzen was the one looking after him not directly but from the shadows. Hiruzen then being the hokage it was his duty to take care of the people in his village and especially since Minato and Kushina sacrificed themselves for the village right in front of his eyes he must have felt that he owed it to them to look after their son. Hiruzen couldn’t personally raise him maybe because he was dealing with a lot of hokage stuff (village restoration and healing after nine tails nearly wipped out the hidden leaf, then there is danzo that comes with it’s own set of problems, other hokage stuff etc) or maybe he had his own reasoning with the best intention in mind to not do so. There are a lot moments on the anime where he is observing Naruto hiddenly and sees how Naruto is getting treating and feels for him so it’s not like he was cold. There were other people too like the Ramen guy, Iruka, his own team, Kakashi, Jiraya who were there for him. All these people saved him, had it not been for them I don’t think he would have made it as others hated him.
P.S he wasn’t raised by anyone in a typical manner but Hiruzen was looking after him and later came others that accepted and cared for him.

I would argue that it actually seems very likely that an orphanage did exist, or at least a system to care for all the orphans from the Kyuubi attack. This was a huge blow on the village, so my guess if Naruto was in fact in this sort of care, since he wasn't aware who Hiruzen was. he likely had to live on his own at some point due to Danzo leaking that Naruto was the Jinchuuriki. There's a high probabbility the orphanage would be a bad or even dangerous place for him. The best Hiruzen could do was treat Naruto separately from the other children without favouritism. Keep in my Minato had a LOT of enemies before he died. It was one of the reason Naruto's last name is Uzumaki and not Namikaze. To protect Naruto. So you can't really put extra protection and TLC into this ONE orphan unless you did it for the rest. People would get suspicious.

Hell, it more sounds like raising a cat at this point. Sasuke needed intense therapy and help and Naruto needed adoptive parents because Natuto needed to know what having a mom and a dad meant and Sasuke needed to see a light at the end of the tunnel after the tragedy he had witnessed, in order to not lose hope on his future like he did in the series. They were deeply neglected, especially if we consider that Naruto’s parents saved Konoha and that Sasuke’s family were killed by Konoha. Konoha was indebted to them, not the other way around, so it’s normal that Konoha’s funds went into paying their food and shelter. You would think since the fourth and his wife literally gave their lives to save the village. They would have made sure his son was WELL looked after. Loved etc. and of course everyone (including Naruto) would know of the day of which the fourth heroically saved the village and his only son through the ultimate sacrifice. I think it goes without saying that would most likely be the case in real life especially in obviously Japanese influenced culture of honor. But of course that would negate Naruto’s underdog story so it makes sense it was written as such. I mean realistically Minato was probably the closest thing to a father figure to Kakashi after the death his father so of course he would love Naruto and treat him the same way but of course again Naruto needs the horrible childhood for plot points. Regardless I still think Kakashi loves Naruto more than an average sense does his student all things considered.

My dark opinion: The village and 3rd hokage kept their distance because he may have to kill him if the seal started to break. Those who were there for him time to time was those who cared. It was a mutal agreement between the elders to avoid conflict with one another incase narutos seal did break. No ties to naruto.

a stupid opinion too since they had many seal experts who can seal the fox and they even supposedly had Anbu watching him 24/7, they were likely experts at seals so again, they would have immediately resolved the issue.
Simple reason is kishi fkd up.
He tried to fix this by doing all sorts of flashbacks but just made things worse and it made Hiruzen look like an idiot who made a stupid decision

I know that the village really shouldnt have done naruto that dirty. But a big part of the story is him being accepted and embraced by the village, and without such a tragic back story it would never have been as good as it is, his heart wrenching past got us all rooting for him from day one and each time he grew closer to being accepted by the village and his goal we all felt so happy for him. And finally when he saved the village in the battle with Pain or however you spell it... we get that and it is as acomplishing as it is because he was such an outcast. I do agree though he deserved to at least have someone in his care as such a young child

Iruka is the reason why Naruto grew up very humble and down to earth. Iruka kept Naruto in check basically treated him as his little brother, he became his guardian until Jiraiya (the actual legal godfather to Naruto) finally took him under his wing.
3rd hokage made sure Naruto and Sasuke is out of Danzo's reach thats pretty much it, so he didn't raise them.

    • @hira791
      @hira791 6 месяцев назад

Not at all. Iruka hated naruto in the beginning like the rest of the village. He only watched over narutos as a teacher at the academy under the duress of the 3rd Hokage. Sure he slowly warmed up to him and kept Naruto in check but it wasn't until that whole fiasco with mizuki at the start of the series that Iruka even completely trusted naruto and let go of any resentemt. There relationship was definitely grounding for naruto and the best explored but also needed more development through out the series.

it was because of Danzo let the village know Naruto was the Jinjuriki the 2 previous leaf jinjuriki no one knew they were one once the tailed beast was in Naruto Danzo took in his own hands to tell everyone so he would have control over Naruto on a tight leash and use him when needed this is why lord 3rd had the rule of no one was to speak of it and knew one knew he was 4ths son so because of everyone now knowing he’s a jinjuriki this changed for lord 3rd instead of taking Naruto in he visited made sure he was ok and watched from and far and gave him money every week or month. Also people blame Hiruzen for the uchiha’s and a bunch of other stuff but wasn’t his fault it was Danzo he’s the one who relocated the uchiha’s isolated them from the village and secluded them and had watch on them and he tried to stop shisui and took his eye making him late to meet itachi what made them both late to meeting to convince the clan not to betray the leaf and itachi had to kill his own clan Danzo even help orouchumaru and knew about the kidnappings of leaf villagers and the horrible things he was doing still help him he even made tried to break the peace agreement with the stone and also got his Foundation Anbu to disguise themselves as the stone shinobi and force Yahiko to kill and then telling lies about Yahiko’s group to Hanzo saying there group kills and aren’t looking for peace while his group aren’t trying to kill and are looking for peace so Danzo gives a fake name to Yahiko saying he’s a subordinate of Hanzo and is a Rain shinobi and Yahiko dies and his group attacked making Nagato active his power and join obito also Danzo tried to assassinate lord 3rd Hiruzen but Hiruzen found out and gave him a warning instead of killing him cause it was his moral code. Danzo has done so much that has hurt the leaf and thinks he’s helping it the Uchiha’s couldn’t even help in 9 tails attack cause he said to Hiruzen they might be behind it or control it and the 2 elders agreed, Hiruzen disagreed and didn’t like it but still went along with it so the uchiha’s only could get villagers to safety. I think when Danzo made the Foundation Anbu Hiruzen should have had spy’s on him if he done anything out of line kill Danzo he’s a threat to his own village. He even to Kabuto and his mother as spy’s brain washed her and tried to make both kill each other instead kabuto killed his mother. There’s legit so much Danzo has done I think Hiruzen’s only mistake was letting Danzo do the dirty work and letting him only control the Anbu division Known as the foundation because of this Danzo done so much terrible stuff and people blame Hiruzen also the 2 elders are also to blame for agreeing with Danzo and for not doing much and making terrible decisions. So I think Hiruzen is a good hokage it’s just Danzo that messed up everything. Danzo probably helped orouchumaru get in leaf to attack during chunin exams and what led to Hiruzen dying fighting orouchumaru. He also killed the messenger toad to get Naruto to stop pain and came late to village and it was destroyed all to stop Naruto to go near pain
Also Mikoto wanted to take Naruto in but was denied for being a uchiha scared she might use him. Kakashi wanted to take him in was denied for being to young and he was a shinobi in Anbu so he would be away a lot and could die any time. Jariya couldn’t either due to being away a lot for infiltration missions like finding stuff on Orouchumaru and the akatsuki and could die while infiltration or on a mission and he also travelled to write his novels, he was also a candidate for Hokage and turned it down for those reasons.

He saw was being nice checked on Naruto in wood was like oh you’re fishing and asked could he join him and have some because Naruto has never had company or anyone to even have a nice conversation with or not giving him those horrible stares and never has had a meal with someone so Hiruzen checked on him pretended to be an old man sat with Naruto gave him good company and had a conversation with him no one has treat him like that to Naruto that was probably a precious moment to him and probably his first memory of meeting Hiruzen this meant a lot to Naruto to have that company Hiruzen was a great man and very nice and died for his village.
