    Jonas Steur is a DJ and producer from Belgium, who you might know as the creator of tracks such as “Flow”, “Red Shores”, “Second Turn”, “Fall To Pieces” and many others. In my previous interview with Jonas we already spoke about his track “Castamara”, which was the very first track he released under his own name Jonas Steur.
    Because of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the Estuera track “Tales From The South”, I made a visit to the brand new studio of Jonas, to ask him about the story behind this classic.
    Fun fact, “Tales From The South” has a length of 11 minutes and 11 seconds, which makes it one of the longest tracks Jonas has released so far. Maybe it is a coincidence but at the moment, this interview with Jonas, is the longest interview available on my channel. I spoke to Jonas for more than an hour, so make sure to grab a coffee or another drink and enjoy this very detailed interview we did.
    Enjoy and thanks for watching!

    They just don’t make music like this anymore! I can play “Tales From the South” back to back while working and be perfectly content. It’s not a song - it is a journey. Some of my personal favorites also include “7 Clouds,” “Travels,” and “Red Shores.” Thank you Jonas for creating these masterpieces that still bring joy to my ears decades later, and thank you Twan for bringing us these stories behind our favorites!

    Part of me died when i found out the Revision Flow wasn't on the vinyl release .... Once you've imprinted yourself onto a piece a music ... And the music over time forges itself into being part of your soul .... From and era so sublime just thinking about it sickens you with noslagia .... An era mentioned here from Jonas where Internet forums were a frenzy of activity after a set was released, and the set regularly compromised of many tracks over 8 minutes long - You just can't accept any other versions of specific productions ... And the Revision Flow is that version of this track .... It makes me feel beyond upset, to a degree where I just have to stop thinking, and listening to these productions these days, as what we had was so so special, and this era of 2005, although it had definitely started to empty itself completely of the magic that survived from 1998-2002 .... Pieces of sublime joy were still meandering around the ocean of trash that was starting to flow musically and socially at trance events .... After 2006, it was the start of a few years, where the rails really became too unstable for many to continue their odyssey with electronic music .... It just makes certain tracks and moments we shared immortalised into memories, forever with us, but for so many nothing but stories and a bygone era of time many will never even begin to experience

    It was on page 641 of the two towers - this is excerpt - ‘See it, see it? What will you see?’
    ‘The old fortress, very old, very horrible now. We used to hear
    tales from the South, when Sme´agol was young, long ago. O yes, we
    used to tell lots of tales in the evening, sitting by the banks of the

    Jonas was a bit wrong because Flow (11:44), Red Shores (11:44), Travels (11:36) are his longest released tracks. Tales From The South duration is 'only' 11:11 😀 Another great interview. It would be good to hear more interviews with him. Thanks Twan!

    • @muzikxpress
      @muzikxpress  9 месяцев назад +6

      That was actually because of a mistake of me, let me explain; When I did research for the interview I saw on Discogs that "Tales From The South" was 12:12. I think the person who added that duration there, got his information from a RUclips video which has a length of 12:12, but.... the last minute of the video is just silence. I only found out when I started to edit the interview, so I updated the information on Discogs. Before we started the interview I was saying that "Tales From The South" was his longest track and Jonas also said he thought it was "Flow". I think he says that in the interview itself too. The part where I mention that it is 12:12 has been edited out of the interview and I updated Jonas that the Discogs info was wrong ;-) And I said that I was wondering if someone would notice and hey, there you go, less than 6 hours after the interview is live you noticed haha, well done! Hope this clears some things up! And there will be an interview about "Fall To Pieces" as well. Plus we might do something later in 2024, let's see how things are going :)

    Longer tracks that took the time for the build up actually takes the listener on a whole journey rather then the shorter ones we have now, where you get an immediate satisfaction. One of the reasons why I still cherish trance from the early 2000s

    • @Chalisque
      @Chalisque 5 месяцев назад

      The connection here is that track 2 is by Fable (which is Jonas). But track 1 is Arksun Arisen, which takes 7 minutes of slowly building until the drop where the bassline starts using more than one note, and perfectly transitions into Above and then Exactly. That CD is probably my favourite from the entire ASOT series, and I was pleasantly surprised, but not that surprised, when I discovered that Jonas was behind track 2. I love long builds. (I first came across his name as the remixer of Starfighter on the 'Worlds Greatest Euphoric Trance' compilation, then discovered he was Estuera, and then Fable.)

    One of the reasons why they should do vinyl, is to put the long versions out on vinyl and release the edited versions on streaming and download services.

    • @muzikxpress
      @muzikxpress  9 месяцев назад

      I know from personal experience there's only a very limited amount of people that still purchase vinyl. That, combined with the high production / shipping costs and production times (currently between 3 - 6 months) are the main reasons there's not many artists / labels anymore that release vinyl. It is way too risky, what if a track doesn't become a hit? Plus since almost everything is digital in clubs / festival these days it doesn't make sense to only release edited versions on download services. What if a DJ wants to support a track? He needs the full version then and not an edited track. So, this is not gonna work ;-)

    Here's a few suggestions of subgenres you could still cover from the 90's:
    - Clubhouse / Clubtrance (similar to Klubbheads, Southside Spinners, DJ Jean & Peran, Club Caviar etc.)
    - Techtrance (similar to E. Craig or Marco V.)
    - Hardtrance (similar to Dumonde, early Cosmic Gate, Alphazone)
    - Acid Trance (similar to Kai Tracid, Warmduscher)
    - Piano World Music House Crossover (no name for the genre but similar to Dario G. - Sunchyme, Wes - Alane, Syndrome - Heyo (Nana Ae)
    - Dark Techno (similar to early works of Yves DeRuyter and Bonzai)
    - Synth Pop (similar to William Orbit, for example his work for Madonna and All Saints)
    - New Age (similar to Era, Adiemus, Enigma, Deep Forest)
    - Downtempo (simliar to Moby's '18' album)
