Pointless comment. The PED HR leader Barry Bonds was also up 2000 more times than Babe. Meaning Babe would have had an additional 167 HR or a total of 867 career HR. Babe had a career batting average of 342 vs Bonds 298. Baseball has been integrated for over 70 years and how many people of color have topped his records. Also some Black players played in his day saying they were Native Americans. Josh Gibson was an exceptional talent who never got to play in the major leagues. Babe would have excelled anywhere he played. He is The G.O.A.T, end of story. BTW he did form a team which played against the negro league all- stars. He hit 455 and had 12 Hr in 55 at bats. He smoked their best pitchers.

Some people think Babe may have been denied a manager position partially because of racism. Not because of his race, but because of his support of African-American baseball. In a time when the MLB was extremely racist, Babe Ruth would play many barnstorming games against and with all-black teams (something many players looked down on). According to his kids and other sources, Babe supported blacks being brought into the MLB, Something many racist players, owners, and GMs at the time looked down on. Ruth would sit with black players in the dugouts, talk and socialize with them before and after games and mingle in the segregated stands with fans. He scheduled games with famous all African American teams in locations where interracial competition was not only against racist local norms but also against the law.
This was not well documented as many believe the racist MLB officials wished to hide this aspect of Babe Ruth.
I think it really is admirable that such an icon could not only be so ahead of his time in his sport, but also in his character. He had an awesome empathy for his fellow man. Babe was a man who grew up in grinding poverty and probably identified with the injustices against the black community of the time.

If you want to there's a older Movie called the babe with John Goodman in it he plays Ruth kinda based on him. It's a good movie you should check it out. I see a lot of ppl mentioned Jackie Robinson, fun fact he wasn't the first black man in baseball technically. Moses Fleetwood Walker (October 7, 1856 - May 11, 1924) was an American professional baseball catcher who is credited with being one of the first black men to play in Major League Baseball (MLB). A native of Mount Pleasant, Ohio, and a star athlete at Oberlin College as well as the University of Michigan, Walker played for semi-professional and minor league baseball clubs before joining the Toledo Blue Stockings of the American Association (AA) for the 1884 season. Now the catch is the MLB that's around today started in1901.Imo Jackie Robinson shouldn't be called the first black pro baseball player. It should be Jackie Robinson the first black baseball player in modern day baseball

I enjoy your videos...but there is A LOT missing from this documentary. First of all, as incredible of a player as he was, this documentary is acting as if he was a one man team. Those Yankees teams were FILLED with outstanding players. In fact, Ruth was 3rd in the batting lineup. The guy who was 4th (Lou Gehrig) is probably universally considered one of the 10 best baseball players ever. So what this does for Babe Ruth is it forces the pitchers to give him some pitches that he can hit, because they know that if they let him just get on base, the next guy in the lineup could also kill them. So that helped contribute to a lot of his home run totals. So, to put this into context, having a Babe Ruth documentary without mentioning Lou Gehrig is kind of like having a Michael Jordan documentary without mentioning Scottie Pippen...not entirely accurate. In his personal life, I don't think they give him enough credit for his generosity. He used to regularly visit orphanages (as the documentary mentioned, he was an orphan) and was very charitable. I can't believe they left out the story where he visited a kid in a hospital who was dying, promised the kid that he'd hit a home run, and then did it! They also mentioned how much baseball he played in the off-season, but didn't mention that many of those games were played against Negro League teams (black players weren't allowed to play in the MLB until 1946). So he was very ahead of his time in trying to bring attention to the African American ball players in order to maybe give them the opportunity to play Major League baseball. But as for his "work ethic"...I'm sure he worked hard at his craft...but they definitely downplayed the fact that he was a known boozer and had a terrible diet. He would drink beer and eat hotdogs on the bench DURING games. But anyways, sorry for the rant, I just realized just how long this post was. I hope you at least find some of this information interesting. Good luck with your channel.

1927 yankees werent the best team of all time because of Ruth. They were the best because they had 4 hall of fame hitters (Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs) and 2 hall of fame pitchers (Hoyt, Pennock). They also had Keonig, Meusel, and Dugan who were all good players, and Shocker and Ruether who were good pitchers. They won 110 games and swept the world series in 4 games. It was a team effort, not just Ruth.

Beautiful Channel! Not a racist of any kind but just a realist. Babe Ruth, played baseball in a white only segregated league. Do you really think that Babe Ruth and all those other “great” white players would have been great if they faced African American and Latino Players on a regular basis? Another thing the documentary does not talk about is Ruth’s closeness to African Americans and ‘Negro Baseball’, that is where he horned his skills playing against them during the off season and learning their swag. Here is a link to an interview with his Granddaughter www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-2008-06-29-0806290029-story.html
Oh, and don’t think for a moment Africans Americans Baseball players were just waiting and praying to play integrated baseball, they were making way too much money in there league. Will start with a name people have probably heard, Satchel Paige, he left the Negro league and joined the MLB at 42 years old as a starting pitcher! And dominated, he left within two years and went back to the Negro League, in 1950 he was making $800 per game (that’s $7,358 in today’s money). The average income for Whites in 1950 was $3,300. And also remember, while MLB played only teams in the US, the Negro Leagues played worldwide, against countries like Cuba, Santo Domingo, Mexico, ..ect. They had to stop it, if left alone it would have grown too large! So you stop it by integration.
Look at NBA Basketball before and after they merged with the ABA (the Black league), and here comes the three point shots, dunking, the cross overs, the swag ..ect
The Old NFL before and after the merger with the AFL (the black League), here comes the wide open game, listen carefully to what Al Davis (Former Owner of the Oakland Raiders).

GREAT VID. It’s worth nothing that Babe Ruth is still the only player in baseball history to hit 60 homeruns in 154 games without the use of performance-enhancing drugs. They only played 154 game seasons back then. When Roger Maris broke his record in 1961, he needed more games than Ruth had in order to do it. The only other three people to hit more than 60, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGwire, all used performance-enhancing drugs. Over 90 years later, no one has been able to do what Ruth did. He also had one of the highest batting averages in baseball history to go with all that power. Don’t let his low MVP and All-Star numbers fool you, they didn’t have those things during most of his career or he would’ve won about 9 MVPs and been an All-Star every year. He also always came though in the clutch. He is, quite simply, the greatest baseball player who ever lived. And no one else really comes close.

It wasn't all Ruth by 1927. That team was a team of all-stars. He was the centerpiece but a man named Lou Gehrig was almost as good, as him and batting right behind him. There is a famous movie with Gary Cooper called Pride of the Yankees thats about Gehrig. Gehrig was the polar opposite of Ruth in everything. Shy and quiet and hated the spotlight. Handsom and built like a modern-day athlete. He died at 39 from ALS or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. But they just call it Lou Gehrig's disease now. Basically, you lose control of your muscles over several years until you suffocate. After Ruth left the Yankees Gehrig and a young Joe DiMaggio carried the torch to even more W.S. championships than Ruth did. And after DiMaggio, who was one of Marilyn Monroe's husbands, it was Mickey Mantles time to lead the Yankees.

The first time I went there I noticed a lot of pictures of the Babe on the walls. I sat at the end of the bar, ordered a beer and then I was amazed at the man sitting two stools away. It was Babe Ruth. Actually, it was his nephew (I think, definitely related). We talked a bit and I found he owned the bar. It was amazing to see the resemblance to the Babe. If he was dressed in an old Yankees uniform I would have been talking with the Babe himself. Thanks for the beer Mr. Ruth.

Every picture I ever seen of The Babe with children, he always has a huge smile on his face. Almost like he was safely in his element, always trying to make children happy, showing them the love that he never got, even when he was near death. The " Babe " is a true American Icon and a Big kid at heart he was always giving stuff to the children during that time. The baseball in 1920 was wound tighter than in years past that was called the dead ball era after a few innings the ball would become misshapen and softer but he still hit more hr in that time than some teams. For me Ruth and Robinson are true heroes of the game. they both had to overcome so much. Watch the series Baseball by Ken Burns its the greatest documentary on the game. Their is a funny story about the babe when the pallbearers were taking him to his final resting place one of the pallbearers who were all fomer baseball players said "I would give 100 dollars for a beer (it was hot that day) someone else said "so would the Babe" lol

Him and Ty Cobb are by far the best to live in Major League Baseball. The movie called "Cobb", played by Tommy Lee Jones is one of the most epic baseball movies of all time.

I really don’t think that there is a argument at Babe Ruth and Michael Jordan is one and two when it comes to greatest American athletics ever.babe 1920 and 1921 seasons are still the best hitting season ever

There are some that say the reason babe was never hired to manage was that the powers that be thought he might look to hire black players because he played against many of them when he went barnstorming on days that the Yankees didn't play. His daughter, Julia Ruth Stevens said in so many words.

In 1920 Babe hit more homeruns than any other team! Also, his all time Home run record took 2500 more at bats to break!

You do know that the MLB was segregated when he played right? He was great but how do you really measure that when he didn’t compete against the best?

You should do a documentary on Ty Cobb as well. His documentary is shocking too.

Babe's teammate was also a baseball icon who was known as The Iron Man who played in over 2000 straight games and was an amazing hitter in his own right ,they are probably the most formidable hitters to have played on the same team at the same time . Unfortunately more people probably know the name of the disease named for him than his baseball legacy .

You’re talking about Lou Gehrig. His nickname was “The Iron Horse”, not “Iron Man”. That nickname was given to Cal Ripken Jr. when he broke Gehrig’s consecutive games played streak in 1995.
A fantastic player as well, most definitely, and would be a good choice to check out also.
