Hi Lindsay, thank you so much for your recent comment. I tried responding to the actual comment but kept getting an error message. I hope it is appropriate to leave it here. I just wanted to say that your comment was really inspiring and so appreciated. Having your support meant a lot and did a lot for my spirit; and I wanted to make sure that you knew how much I appreciated it❤️
I played your tutorial on mute, didn't have most of the exact colors, went in too heavyhanded and ended up with what barely looked like yours. Yet I loved loved it and learned so much, your tutorial is just that good. Thank you very much.
You are so great at getting all the slightest changes in hues and tones down. This is incredibly realistic. I’ve tried drawing succulents but never get far before giving up as it overwhelms me although your comment about it being a plant not a portrait so if it’s off a bit, who will know. I’ll try again. Great information given throughout. Thank you Lindsay
I had bad luck with prismacolors no matter where I bought them. I also didn’t like the wax bloom. But they do have a great selection of colors. I have no issue with people using them and would still recommend them to people just starting out to see if they like colored pencils. Then if they want to upgrade they can sell them on ebay. That’s what I do with a lot of supplies.
When I saw this video on my feed my reaction was "YASSSSS! LINDSAY!!!! I LOVE IT!" I yelled it and my husband was confused. I love succulents and these drawings are gorgeous!!!
Morning, watching my first view of your channel here in the UK today, as a succulent lover and collector who occasionally draws. I've much appreciated your relaxed informative approach. (Your mention of Maine drew an additional smile as one of my best friends live there👍🙂) Having visited the Derwent factory several times gave me a little chuckle too, since you mentioned the brand and that's what I use occasionally 😊. Great job. For your info the sheen or non hairy coating on succulent leaves is called epicuticular wax 👍
You are amazing. I just can't believe anyone can talk that fast and still be as coherent as you are with your thorough instruction and description of your work as you go. I love all of your videos. I am star-struck.
I absolutely love every drawing or painting of succulents I’ve seen you do. This is so beautiful. I love to watch you draw and wish I could see through your eyes! 😉
I love cacti and succulents! These look devine! I always look for ones thet have unique coloring when I buy them and shortly kill them off. Last summers fiasco was because I had a great idea of planting them in a pretty shallow basket, with pebble pathways and putting them on my balcony. They might have made it a few days if my cat hadn't decided they made a great place to sleep. They suffocated by cat. Next year.....cacti ;P
"Colored pencils, who would think what these beauties can do,with pencil in hand,Lindsay creates the most beautiful art there is."-Lynn Gotta love those pencils, great video Lindsay. 🎨👍🏻🌹❤
My inexpensive nail files is my best companion for coloring and drawing.. i use it to clean my electric eraser but also my blending stumps or sometimes even to sharpen a pencil..
Succulents always look so stunning when other people draw or paint them but I can't get those soft blues and greens right for the life of me. I am living vicariously through this video.
You explain things sooooo well. Hubby watched over my shoulder and commented about the 'showing people what you see' concept. He doesn't often indulge in my 'arty' videos - but I think this was a real revelation to him. Thank you for sharing and thank you for introducing the value in seeing what other see in art.
I couldn't stop seeing a demented alien giraffe for a little bit there! I love Prismacolor. I'm just starting to really dive in to using colored pencils properly and am learning so much.
I really consider my Prismacolors a gift. It's fun to have so many colors for less than $100. My usage and ability doesn't justify spending more than that. And I think they're soft and wonderful to work with.
I started collecting succulents a little over a year ago and love them. This is such a beautiful picture, you make it seem the long stem is part of the beauty. In some succulents that can be true, like aeoniums, but this looks like an echeveria which is usually a ground hugger. I feel the need to cut off the head of this one and re-root it. LOL I'll have to check out the source picture and see how the whole arrangement looks. I was painting the lilac picture from one of your flower painting courses on teachable yesterday and really got carried away with the splattering! There are dots of dried paint all over my screen and keyboard and I had to look at the ctrl button closely to figure out how it had become the period button...white gouche.
Excellent video. Beautiful drawing, shading and coloring. Thank you for the explanation of the different pencils and especially the "magic eraser" I definitely need one. Tfs, Lindsay.
I'd always wondered why 'pre sharpened' pencils seemed to be a selling point. You mention @5:25 how they started sharpening the pencils in mexico and caught those pencils that shattered. This is a brilliant observation and logical. Taught me something and got you a subscribe.
I have a full set of both Prismacolor and Polychromos. I love both, and I’ve had zero breaking issues with the Prismacolors (which I got within the last year.) Also no problems with uncentered core. I prefer them when I work on my black paper sketchbook because they’re more opaque. You’ve got me inspired to do a succulent today, Lindsay. Yours look so awesome.
I have thought about trying them and the reviews have been decent but they dont seem to be as soft and pigmented as prismas. Maybe I'll buy a small set to try .
This is gorgeous! I'm so glad you explained the difference between contast and saturation! That really helped me! I love the colors, and the waxy look of the petals...I think they're called petals lol. It's just beautiful! My son is learning to become a bladesmith...and I got him the electric eraser for his sketches! He loves it! Thanks so much Lindsay! 😊💗
Thanks for doing this tutorial. I watched it and now will go to Critique Club to follow your process as I do my own. I have several brands of colored pencils and still Prismacolor are the ones I go to the most. Gotta love 'em.
So beautiful! Thank you for featuring colored pencil. Your color selection and blending are awesome. I love Prismacolor pencils and only ever had two pencils keep breaking ( both of them True Green) and really enjoy watching you use them.
Thanks for this video and information. I use Polychromos pencils. Thankfully I have a color chart from Color with Claire that demos the comparable colors of Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils. You've inspired me to give succulents a try.
Oh wow, you really got me with the pencil sharpener recommendation! I was struggling to figure out what kind of iPencil Apple makes that can be sharpened!!
Hi Lindsay! I'm joining Critique club!!! This is great, love the colors! Is there an electric sharpener that you use or strictly hand held? The sun and I are not friends, maybe I should be a winter Texan when I retire! Have you heard of them?
I havent heard of them but I think most Texans got their fill of winter last week. I mostly use an electric sharpener, I get less breakage that way. I dont think brand matters but you want one that is helictical (the threaded cylinders that grind away the woid) vs a blade like some cheaper ones have.
@@thefrugalcrafter yes & I was one of them! It would have been fine if we hadn’t lost electricity and water. I had water but had to boil before using like a 3rd world country.
Love your succulents! I have a Prismacolor question: Is there a safe way of fixing them when the leads are broken? I really want to buy a set, but since they are not sold in stores here, I would have to get them through the internet, and without knowing how they get treated in the mail, I would really want to be sure that if they arrive broken, the money wasn't wasted.
If a large peice of lead comes out you can glue it back in. Also you can lag problem pencils on a heating pad to remedy the wax. I've even microwaved mine for 6 seconds to remedy wax but the gold stamping on the pencil can spark so I don't officially recommend that. If derwent colorsoft are easier to get where you live go for those. They are just as soft and are a bit less likely to break. @@thefrugalcrafter Thank you for answering so quickly. Yes Colorsoft are easier to get here. Thanks Lindsay. Wow just wow! 🤩👍
I just love watching you! I'm a prisma girl too. I still use my first set from high school!
English ist not my first language- and I was overwhelmed by your speed. Playing it on 0.75 made it possible for me to follow 🤪

How do you store all your pencils? I finally have collected a few sets and find it cumbersome going through all the trays to find the right color?
I keep my primacolors out in a rack but the others are in their original tins. I have open stock in a box with various brands.
