I thought it was quite impressive how well the band sounded considering they "never actually played together acoustically before," per Ed. Then Ross said something about them being so busy they didn't even practice. Yet, he played so beautifully and with such precision. Witness it (again) for yourself in the "She Said" acoustic in Morocco video.
I love Ross's flying notes during the chorus of Why its like an effing bird in the midst of a flight through canyons out in the blue sky. Ya Im a little baked lol but eff it lol
shortly after they put their greatest hits cd out shane and ross left for some unknown reasons at least to me. watching this video cements the fact that these guys were at the top of their gam at this point
Ross knows how to make his guitar do things that would take Joel a life time to learn, I don't know the technical term for how he was playing on the strings there (Why pt2) 4:075:08, it is just pure talent I miss him, I miss Collective Soul:(
I saw them in concert two months ago, and they are in no way as dynamic as they used to be. To be fair, I have to say Joel was OK. He does the job but nothing more. Ross and Shane, on the other hand, added a lot of excitement and spontaneity to their performances. For those of us who knew the original lineup, I guess we'll always be spoiled by their brilliance.
i MISS ROSS :( when he left, i felt it :( i only wish they would remake some of the new stuff with him! i swear i think it was new vibration where they play a sax!? o maaan he woulda torn that up! :O
Resi Denata had he not have banged ed's wife he'd still be in the group. I don't wanna hear the bullshit ohh its Ed's band cuz I'm sick of Ed Roland after Joel kosche was let go which was stupid cuz he was the best replacement to Ross, + he was let go for no reason, all handled without class. This new guy Jessie triplet isn't that good. Neither is Johnny rabb, bring back Shane Evans he's working on ed's solo record bring him back into the fold.
First time I saw them was in the summer of 2002, Shane was there but Ross wasn't. It was an awesome night under the stars. Would love to have seen Ross there though.
Yes, I have. Thank you. Yeah, that was a pretty awesome adventure for the band. Remember when Shane (crazy dude!) did his funny little arm dance, and Ross was a victim to a bird attack? :)
@@ladyboomer1765 Late reply I know, but if I try putting myself in Ed's shoes, I think the betrayal by his childhood friend cut him far deeper than his wife's.
@@ladyboomer1765 Yes, I'm sure that went a long way to him forgiving her, at least on the surface. There are still diehards who hope Ross will somehow rejoin the band in the future, and that ain't happening. Seeing those two on stage together, it's all people would think about. Stephanie seems like quite a gal, she married Ross and ended up doing the exact same thing to him. She's supposedly engaged to another guy now, he'd better learn to sleep with one eye open.
Collective Soul has been my all time FAVORITE band now since their debut. I have been to several of their concerts, and I must say, they've always pleased the crowd. Ross was an excellent guitar player, but I'd do the same if I were Ed. Shane, what happened to him then? Ross and Shane need to team up with Scott Stapp, formerly of Creed, and make a band. I would like to see that, being that Creed, even though no longer together, is my second favorite band. Let me know about Shane too. L8TR.
12 years ago, so I hope you're still alive to read this. Shane was let go due to drug abuse. Apparently he's since gotten clean and works for Collective Soul behind the scenes, drum tech or something.
i wish ross and shane never left i think their new stuff could have used them both if they would be more of a better band then what they are now dont get me wrong the new stuff is good but they would have made it better
No one really knows why he left, but I do know that Ryan Hoyle recorded on the 'Youth' album, which makes me believe that Shane knew he was leaving. Maybe they were waiting for Ryan to know all the songs before Shane would leave. I believe that the switch was premeditative. But, why Shane left? Don't know.
I heard a rumor from more than one source that said Shane had issues with alcohol/drugs and that is why he left, but before Collective soul changed their website, there was a news forum that said Shane wanted to focus more on his personal and family life and get out of the spot light.... so who knows.
whoever plays lead guitar,...it's ok for me....joel is good, ross is good.....why do u think ed is a frontman in every band he had??....because he is the man!!....he wrote almost every CS songs!!...so when Ross gone, it doesn't take any effect for CS future!!...but that's another story if who left the band is brillian song writer like Guns n Roses when Izzy left the band....it took 15 years for the band to make a new album.....so stop arguing which is the best between Joel n Ross!!...let the real frontman decides!!....God bless u CS!!...
An answer about Ryan. At a concert I recently attended, a woman that is like their biggest fan, which is impossible because I am, said that he had alot of promotional things to take care of. Henceforth, the creation of Chenney, which I have to say, is AWESOME! Better than Ryan. The dude can rock those F'in drums. My ? is, what happened to Ross?
@@giotrapani7852 First off, CS should have been inducted years ago. But if they are eventually inducted, it would be real interesting to see if Ross would be there. Musically speaking, of course he should be, but I can't imagine the cringeworthy discomfort Ed would be feeling. Every single person there who knows anything about the band's history, that's all they'll be thinking of, Ross on top of Ed's then wife. I honestly don't know if I could do it if in Ed's shoes. you dont know what happened in the band. Im certain it was bad to break up the team. But i think joel is a far superior player than ross technicaly. I seen both live an ross was a bit sloppy. Joel was flawless. just saying as a musician myself. But id have to agree Ross had that natural EDGE!
Ross had an affair with Ed's then wife, and eventually married her. Of course, she ended up doing the same thing to Ross. Women like that never change.
Nice analogy of the effing bird... lol No doubt about it. Ross can do some pretty amazing things with a guitar, and he makes it look so easy.

Yeah, Ross is irreplaceable. He plays with so much heart and emotion. Check out the video "Collective Soul - hymn 24 live 1996." It's a real gem!
Just saw that video yesterday
Yeah, I definitely miss Ross

Ed, so Ross screwed your old lady...Get over it and bring him back!! and while your at it, bring back Shane too....You guys are the best :)
Michael Buttaccio I agree they haven't been the same since youth that was the last good album they put out. You could make a case for rabbit but idk.

@Daniel Hartin Well it would only benefit Ed to make an effort to forgive Stephanie because they share a son. He didn't need to talk to Ross.

TELL ME WHY
trish urban Sheer Bloody Poetry!!! LOVE IT
Have you seen their Music In High Places? That is what got me into the band. Then when I heard the Blender album that sealed the deal.

Yeah from what i heard, he left the band, didn't even tell them he was leaving, and hasn't really spoken to the band at all since he left.
Shane left in the middle of the youth tour.
Hot all the way around.
What was this performed on?
i think between august and october
this is actually a good song
classics
Why sounds too quiet during the chorus without the rhythm guitar
shane didnt, he did one more album, youth and then left.

Miss Ross's guitar. The two guys after him generic not unique.
