  • I wanted to carve a Wolfs head pendant using only Dremel type tools, no large saw or routers. The stone is Welsh slate which is a beautiful stone to carve, soft enough to carve easily but hard enough to take a sharp edge and strong enough to be able to make smaller intricate pieces. It is the ideal material for beginners to learn rotary stone carving on.
    If you have any questions about the process or my workshop please post in the comments section, I always try to answer.
    Thank you for watching!

      Hi, If your wife wants to carve a cross onto a bigger piece of stone I would suggest using a hammer and chisel rather than a dremel as this is more suitable for caving straight lines. Best of luck!

    You have made that look so easy . I have a dremmel and the diamond blade doesn't want to go thru the quartxz maybe I'll try a different stone less hard on moss scale. I also don't have it hooked up to an air compressor is that what your using ?

    • @thestonecraftingworkshop7490
      @thestonecraftingworkshop7490  Год назад

      Hi Amy, the stone I used is welsh slate, brilliant for carving, very firm but not too hard.
      my tool is a Ferrex flex drive, (mini bench grinderruclips.net/video/0dwNPlY5QTs/видео.html ) not air. This does have a bit more power than a dremel. I would not take too much notice of Mohs scale, it is really for minerals, not rocks or stone which are mixtures of minerals. Best of luck with your carving!

      Hi, my preference is for this ruclips.net/video/0dwNPlY5QTs/видео.html
      More powerful (240v 120w) and with more torque than a Dremel, and cheaper! The flex drive is really easy to use and you can work in the wet safely. The only downside is when the flex drive fails you have to buy the whole machine, still cheaper than a dremel and I am still using the original tool I bought some years ago. I also used the parkside/ferrex cordless rotary tool which although a bit bulky I find very good.

      I am not sure which tool you mean, I can choose from a big range of burrs. If you mean the rotary tool itself, I mainly use the flex attachment to the Ferrex bench grinder, it is a great low cost tool. Best of luck!

      I assume you mean the saw? I use an old wood saw converted to cut with water and a diamond blade. Hope this helps.

      I mostly use the flex drive on a ferrex mini bench grinder, in my view this is the best low cost dremel style tool available. It is more powerful and has more torque than any dremel style tool. I made a few videos featuring this tool here is one ruclips.net/video/017tgW-e0Qw/видео.htmlsi=TZZBGoLB8J0Ep3zt
      Best of luck with your pebbles!
