They could redesign the current ring, add a forward movement to engage indexing, and it would be similar to how some older lenses engaged manual focus gears. I don't use the function ring, but I probably would if it has indexed resistance so I'd notice/hear if it got moved by mistake.

Thanks Richard for replying. Well, I never owned a Viltrox and honestly I was about to buy it as the price difference with respect to the Nikon Z 85mm is huge. But as always, before I go and simply click and buy anything, especially because I don't earn my day from photography as it is a hobby for me, I do look for reviews and real life scenarios. I personally prefer Amazon because of their customer-centric model and return policy even though I end up paying a bit more with respect to other websites. Anyway, when I look at the comments, you have the option to filter out all the comments and only view the negative comments from your own country and other countries. With this particolar lens, almost all the negative comments from all over the Amazon international websites, are all about this lens working for at most 3 months then all of a sudden the camera won't recognize it and it becomes a nice table decoration only. The amount of such comments are those that drove me away. Actually the lens as a whole have very positive reviews that clearly overcome the negative comments. All the reviews including the negative ones talk about very sharp images and good construction and cheaper prices with respect to Nikon. The issue here is this unknown reason why such lens (not all, but apparently a good number of samples) simply stop working all of a sudden. That is what drove me away

@@Ihab.A yes fair enough! Always good to check a few reviews to check for flaws/issues. I have to say i don't know the policies of Amazon, but would buying from B&H (which i heard has good customer support) make it safer for you if you have concerns about the reliability? The lack of any form of weather sealing kinda kills this lens. Not as much for environmental portraits but for landscape and around high humidity places this is a no go for me personally. Rather double up and get the Nikon Z with sealing and higher quality. Instead of having to buy a new 35 viltrox and basically paying the same.

Your background music is so annoying.
