This is not the kind of guy you’d expect to be a Talon elite and that’s why I think he’s awesome.
He's evil Reinhardt. He's Reinhardt before he lost his mentor. And if he joined Talon instead.
@@GhostWulf70792not necessarily. He has a lot more cunning in him than Reinhardt who’s very brash and before Balderich’s death was very desensitized to combat. A Reinhardt that joined Talon would likely be similar to how Mauga pretends to be, but who Mauga actually is is much more sinister

@@interstellar0001Sigma is a talon member. However, it’s because he’s mentally. . . not all there, and doesn’t understand that they’re using him and what he’s doing is wrong. Still, though, he is a member and does stuff for the group (presumably being part of their scientific division and also helping out on operations)
I love how Mauga is a ruthless mercenary who also happens to be the kind of guy who’d take you out to his favorite bar for a drink or two.

Talon really said "Make this guy like a 40k Space Marine" and they ran with it, he's built like a Centurion complete with Storm Bolters, I love him.
Ironically, Mauga would probably do quite well as a Salamander. He's a big berserker who loves big guns and fire, but is also quite friendly and chill! Vulkan would approve. XD

@@DeathMessenger1988I think he should fit the Space Wolves better. Grizzled past, enjoys killing in the most brutal, merciless way but also a great guy to be around in a bar or a club. Also helps people he cares about even if it doesn’t look like it. Leman Russ would love having him around

4 years and like 3 months. Bapt event was in 2019 summer before Sigma release.
Sigma was supposed to be Mauga, but they felt like his kit didn't fit.

@@Jayj0214You must have played a different game my friend. Overwatch 1 & 2 have nothing in common. The entire game changed. Strategy and Game Sense used to dominate the game. Overwatch 2 depends a lot more on mechanics, is a lot more fast paced, and has become a lot more one-dimensional in game play.
To say it is the same game since 2016 would require you to go as abstract as to saying "It's still a hero shooter, nothing changed".

Even his characters abilities are related to Bap in a way, the healing ability looks like Baps- but aggressive- he has so much personality and I can’t wait
He pairs really well with bap me and my friends discovered today. Everything up to and including their Ults.
@@acannon2700Yeah, I found that out too. I absolutely love mauga but I found my true calling, playing bap whenever there is a mauga, it is just heavenly.

His ult allows Reaper and Widow to have it and Moira as healer lets him keep up the aggresive push

He is so much fun to play! At range, left click until they catch on fire, then switch to right click. Up close, hold down both for maximum carnage!
A shame he blows up so easily (especially for a Tank), but he’s still super fun to play.
We've waited 5 years, and from the look of things, it was so worth it. One of the best designs of any Talon member, and when he decides it's time to "have fun" you'd best get out of the way. I can't wait to play as him.

"Good" to see that he is still with Talon and he that he still has the same personality as he got introduced in the Baptiste-Short-Story. If I understand it correctly, he got a second heart either during this operation because they thought he was dead or later when he joined Talon to have even more endurance in fights.
The second heart also explains the huge muscle mass and gains.

@@lennydickson8845 Anything is possible in Overwatch. It is a futuristic Earth with advance technology that looks like magic.
To reply to both you and @lennydickson8845. What likely happened is that when he was going through the operation that we see in his story they had to transplant another heart to support the first because it became too weak to effectively pump blood throughout his body. This is a relatively common thing called a "piggyback heart." Usually, once the original heart recovers and returns to normal function the piggyback heart is taken out since it can lead to high-blood-pressure issues.
Mauga seems to have forgone that route for the extra endurance as you said. His body could have been later modified by Moira to better handle such strain or he's just so big that his body can naturally handle it.

@@awsomewaver of course because Baptiste had joined talon around the same time as Maura did, and the two hit it off. There was a mission Baptiste took with Mauga at Monte Cristo and mission leader ordered the town torn apart and he decided that Talon wasn’t what it said they were and Mauga being his best friend, wanted to keep him from leaving but let him leave but met him once again four years later in Haiti and decided to use him for a mission for Talon, but Baptiste basically failed the mission miserably for Mauga and he was NOT happy about it. Even Sombra of all people told Baptiste to be careful because Mauga was happy to be able to see him again, and by happy, I mean happy-to-tear-off-your-neck-from-your-body happy…
In a nutshell…
No REAL lore surprisingly but still an amazing character.
All he's "real" lore was already known via the bap comic
I think the only thing of note is Mauga having two hearts. Outside of that, not really much else to get from him (but really when you have that kind of Charisma, do you really need anything else?)

and I suspect that for all his talk about 'new outlook', he actually sustained a traumatic brain injury that resulted in a significant personality shift + mania. As the person experiencing the TBI, he would 'feel' it as an intuitive philosophical change, rather than a physical one.

It really is amazing how one intense experience can shift your outlook on life. He went from being serious to having a more laid-back, fun personality. And realizing it's okay to work on yourself but also have friends around you. I have to admit this guy's cool.

It looked like before during the Omnic invasion he and Baptiste both had rough lives trying to survive and help others in their country.
When they both joined talon Mauga was happy with his new villain lifestyle while Baptiste never was, really interesting.

Can’t wait to see his interaction voicelines with the other characters, especially Baptiste! Already seen a few, and the voice actor knocked it out of the park. Fantastic kit, amazing lines and a great design to boot. Can’t wait until December when he’s finally out!

Agreed, voice actor deserves MAJOR kudos. Oscillates between fun party boy and threatening AF villain so well.
The shot of Moria being behind doomfist and Sigma, the two most powerful in terms of power and rank in talon, makes me believe Moira might be pulling even Akande’s strings

So what I can get at is that him and Baptiste worked in the same mercenary group and then Talon, but while Baptiste saw the evil in Talon, Mauga overly enjoyed it

Wow i never wouldve guessed he was with talon, he gave me major "Hawaiian rein" vibes with his luscious hair and big guy charm. Him being talon is honestly great though, i feel as if the pair when fighting will have some really cool and interesting interactions

Nah, I'd say he's entirely there. He's incredibly aware of himself, and takes pleasure from the idea.
Wonderfully done and with his character you get that feeling that he's very much a grenade who's pins been pulled, and you know he's gonna go boom, but you just don't know when. And this big, friendly personality he projects is a layer over a person who would have zero issue with force feeding your leg, soggy end first, if he got 'bored' or felt you offended him. And whilst he follows orders for TALON, this is more a case of "I'll follow orders if I want to, if you try to get in my way or force me to do something I've no interest in doing, I'll walk over your corpse."

so from what im gathering lore wise, Mauga was once some sort of soldier who got hurt in battle, and after his treatment he woke up with a new taste for harmdoing. he then joined talon (the bad guys). we dont really know more than this, hopefully a cinematic or comic is coming soon.
overall i think its a super sick idea, he reminds me a bit of sombra in the way where hes still a villain but a more fun one, i cant wait for the shenanigans hes gonna get into soon.
Edit: i read his wiki, and it doesnt State why he is like he is, the only info We have is that he woke up from surgery a more violent person.
After This he goes into talon and becomes friends with Baptiste, where Mauga is described as a demon, because hes simple a sadistic man who finds joy in mass murder.
The wiki ends with Mauga and Baptiste facing off against each other and Baptiste causing an explosion with Mauga being nowhere to be seen
The wiki Also mentioned that this happened around the same time as the Overwatch recall, if not a bit before it. Meaning Mauga has been a Talon elite for at least 4 years at this point of not longer.
Im waiting to have some of the Talon parts confirmed by his interactions with Talon members like Reaper and Widow.

I think it's more he woke up realising he wasn't enough, and coerced the medical staff into augmenting his body. He says in the Gameplay Reveal that he's got two hearts, so clearly now he's more than human.
I mean he was already in the baptiste comic so
It looks like he was experimented on while unconscious. You can see the the monitors while he's bandaged up looking at his brain. They probably experimented with the glands that control hormones; when he wakes up, he's nearly quadruple in size, hyper-aggressive and hedonistic, and needs two hearts to support his frame (you can hear two heart monitors beeping in near unison). That's my thoughts on it anyway.

Reaper, Bastion, and Junkrat have been really fun combos! Plus the charge/stun helps with protecting Support.

I've wanted him ever since I started playing OW at the start of the year. Wasn't gonna play tank till he came out (till I discovered Doom). I'm so happy, they nailed every single thing I wanted him to have and gave him even more
This is one of my favorite origin story videos I've seen. Just, the animation is really good for being as simple as it is. And the transition from him grabbing the medic, with the red eyepiece falling out, to him eating the tomato or whatever it was was really cool. And he is just such a cool character to begin with. This is a really fun, cool watch!

@@SplendidFactor Maybe, but I think Mauga is a little bit smarter than Rein and he has the same bloodlust that Reaper has. Not to mention that his E ability in-game allows Reaper to unlimitedly heal himself while dealing serious damage.
I think the only ones Reapers seems to hold some level of respect for and camaraderie is Doomfist and Widow. Moira unnerves him Sombra and Sigma annoy him and Mauga much like Sombra seem to have a twisted optimistic outlook and ongoing personality’s something Reaper doesn’t really connect with.
@@alexbolt5 I disagree. I think Reaper actually really doesn't like Doomfist (from the way he speaks about him in the "Code of Violence book). I also think that Sombra intentionally pokes and prods at Reaper's sore wounds from his past (also in the book) that makes him not like her. Mauga on the other hand seems like a reliable (albeit sadistic) teammate.
