Great content mate, love the subtle (funny) items you have laying in your draw...🤔🤣👍🏻 Keep doing your thing mate, were enjoying it 100%!! All the best from France, Cheers 🤘🏻
i've always felt... when you are working on your own personal equipment, doing something for yourself (not an employer), the amount of safety precautions you take is up to you... want to risk losing a finger?... no problem, go for it... want to catch a nail with your face?... have at it! i'm a firm believer in letting people hurt themselves with their stupidity and/or carelessness, it is by far the best way for them to learn to be safer
Well done. Man I started one for my wife a few months ago and it’s sitting in my shop half ass finished. This video just gave me the motivation to finish. I’m doing a drawer within a drawer. DO A VIDEO ON THAT. a drawer that opens inside a drawer
This was great to watch. What I noticed that I found interesting and intriging was that you simply fit the end of the divider to the slot and wasn’t concerned that the divider was a uniform thinkness. To me this makes great sense. Sometimes we get caught up in imperfections no one will every see or appreciate. The woodworking police aren’t showing up to with calipers to check that… Thanks for sharing this build with us. Oh one last thing, 100% agree a hand plane before sandpaper whenever possible.
I made something very similar to this a few years ago for several of my kitchen drawers and cause I'm lazy I just made all the dividers the same width as the big spoons with + a ~1/4 or extra width on both sides of the big spoons. The problem I have is my smaller forks are always all over the place because they have too much room and I never ever thought to just turn them on their sides like at 8:49. or flip every other knife so more fit. Duh... Now they stay nice and straight. 30 years of woodworking and you can still learn something.
OK, you got me to subscribe with these words... '...before reenacting my prom night' - HILARIOUS!!! [actually, the craftsmanship is was hooked me, the comment - I'm still smiling and laughing inside - reeled me in]
Okay, first time checking out your channel. I really like this idea. You're correct... enough of the cutting boards already! Make stuff people are going to use. Oh, and the prom joke was great.
Thanks Nick! So glad that your prom night went well. Oh, and nice project, but a shame you tossed your steel out. Those things are really useful... Merry Christmas. : )

Hey, Nick. I just stumbled on your channel. I really like, and subscribe to, your hybrid method. I also enjoyed your style of presentation. I've subscribed and am looking forward to following your future posts. Thanks!
I am not familiar with your tenon routing set up at 2:38. What is it and why have I not seen/ordered one. Seems so much safer and predictable versus balancing on a router table.
It’s a PantoRouter. Powerful platform for all kinds of joinery. There’s a link in the description for a discount code. Can’t imagine doing what I do without it
You're annoyingly correct...my whole family has cutting boards sitting on the counter that they don't use because they look too good. Drives me nuts. I can make more, use them!
The stupid rod thing is essential for keeping your knives sharpened. You can’t cut a rabbet with a blunt chisel you can’t skin a rabbit with a blunt knife.
@@SawyerDesign first of your vids I have ever seen.....Butt just because of that sly little clip i will be following and supporting. Everyone is just too damn serious these days.
Hey Dude, love your videos and love your work even more. I would personally find it extremely useful (and everyone has my same opinions so I speak for everyone) if you did a video on how you get the best out of your planes. Sharpening to setup to good cuts. It’s definitely a skill I’m trying to master and you make it look so easy
Agreed, I'm building up a collection of planes that I need to restore or just tune up and seeing more content like that from someone who seems to use them quite often would always be welcome
@1:27 Why is it that the internet safety police are always the only people that seem to know at least a dozen others that have lost fingers from not using push blocks or wearing rings while working? I started my woodworking career back in 2000 & the only major digit accident I ever witnessed was due to horseplay while working. I know hundreds of carpenters that do this work daily & I have yet to meet one with less than 10 digits.
Always, beautifully done. The woodwork and the video. I've been watching your older videos and I'm amazed at how quickly you've developed your videography, editing, and voice over skills.
So...uh...6:32? Amazing build as always Nick. I've been woodworking for several years, but have always preferred power tools to hand tools when possible. Your bias towards hand tools has inspired me to take a whole new approach to my woodworking. Happy holidays!
Hey that stupid rod thing that you took out in the beginning of your vid is to sharpen your knives and all the kitchen sharpening !!!😮😮😮 Don’t through that away it is the best way to sharpen everithing in the kitchen 😊
Well, I must say I have watched far too many woodworking videos to admit. I am enjoying yours for your tongue and cheek approach to guides and all of the little Easter eggs that you hide in your videos. For this one the prom night reference in the butt plug in the drawer of utensils made me laugh out loud twice!
Even with the simple nature of a drawer divider, you've found a way to express your design skills with the sweeping curve, height changes and layering. It looks great!
I am a keen woodworker. I have a regular stall at a craft market where I sell a bit of my stuff and take an occasional commission job. Recently I re-glued and re-finished a fancy cutting board for one of my fellow stall holders. Went through the grades of sandpaper and put three coats of my expensive cutting board oil on. They were pleased as I gave it back. Next month I asked how it was holding up. " Oh, we don't use it " they said, "We have it mounted on the wall. It's too nice to use ".
OMG, this is a spitting image of what my dad did with our kitchen drawers years ago! Now before anyone says anything, no he didn't make a video, he just loves woodworking, and of course Sawyer didn't copy him because there's no way he knows my family, but I got to say it's wild seeing a spitting image of it, especially the curved edges to access the utensils easier, he did that later on, but well execution and it looks amazing, one thing I challenge you to do @Sawyer Design , try to make it where the drawer separators don't move up over time, it causes the separate utensils to intermesh, that's the issue we've had and my dad hasn't taken the time to fix it, best of luck!
Hand planed surfaces are preferred over sanding for me also. Using a hand plane is probably the most enjoyable part of woodworking, next to completing a project. Excellent video Nick🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌 Where's your new bench? Been wondering how it's been benching?
