I personally like Heroic better then Lutris. UI is nicer, makes desktop shortcuts "that usually work", easy to update games. I have had issues with the Flatpak so usually I download the .appimage directly from there website..
If GOG would support Linux, then I would even buy games on the platform. That's my only issue. Otherwise happy to see their focus and goal for preservation.
This has always been the deal breaker for me with GOG. I like what they do, but valve simply removes barriers to getting stuff running without getting in my way. If GOG supported the platform more, Id have no problem moving my purchases to them instead of Valve.
Indeed, no DRM and their installer (no disc switching during install for example) do a good job at raising compatibility already. Fairly typical wine problems already addressed just by making the games more usable in general..
i'll praise Epic when their Childish butthead of a CEO turns everything FOSS Friendly and mandates linux support for their anti cheat and being able to sell on their storefront. that WILL NOT Happen at all. for all intents and purposes epic can still go suck an egg. EGS was never and never will be competition for steam.
I know a part of game preservation is to be able to ensure access to games as time goes on, i.e. the game preservation program mission, but I don't want it if it means it breaks compatibility with the older OSs. As someone who builds and tinkers with period hardware and operating systems, I want to be able to buy a game from 2004 and install it on Windows XP. I have noticed that GoG has started to release games from 20 years ago that they report only work on Windows 10/11, disappointing in my opinion. I know a bunch of people will say it still probably works on XP, and another group telling me to get with the times, but I want to engage with my software the way I want. GoG used to be the best way to do that.
Ah, "GOG is the good guy now: fighting for games preservation!" didn't go so well... I've got +500 games on gog, but it's clear that the majority of players don't care about their purchases being playable in the future
With Steam's Beta API, I do worry a little bit; as I've used the Beta Branches for Linux in a number of game. Some of which don't update the Linux branch much
The sony psn stuff is just a reminder to remove all sony games from your steam wishlist, if there are any. If the games are on your wishlist, you are sending them a positive signal that they haven't earned.
Godot realtime debugging feels so half baked i cant even see the groups of objects when the game is open. But at least it has inspection of the normal data where in expect it (im not on 4.3 yet maybe some things changed already idk)
Without foresight, their anti-DRM stance of yesteryear could be interpreted as plain old piracy; nowadays it's much more than that, especially since every game available could be pulled from sale by the publisher.
Glad to see that Godot is continuing to improve, but after watching the project leads and discourse moderators abuse their positions by banning people from contributing or discussing godot based on political / ideological differences I'd be pretty hard pressed to use Godot myself. At this point Id probably be looking at moving to something like Redot which is focused on the technology and not a bunch of superfluous stuff.
Godot project leads banned fewer than 10 people total when all was said and done. 10 people who rightfully deserved to be banned for saying heinous, hateful, (and worst of all) irrelevant things. They were banned from filing new GitHub issues and creating pull requests. But they could still access the source code. That's not an abuse of their positions. It was the right thing to do. The Discord mod was the moderator of an unrelated, unofficial Discord channel. The bannings on Twitter are irrelevant, too, because it wasn't the official Godot Org account.
@ I think the main issue I take with this situation is how it was handled by the project leadership. They were slow to respond when it was happening and slow to deal with that moderator who had been associated with the project for years. Lunduke had a good set of write-up’s and videos while it was going on. Purely from a user perspective (In this case if I was a dev who uses the engine) I wouldn’t want to use software where the primary focus isn’t the core technology and instead is making decisions based on political or ideological differences. Guess I’m saying that this is a pretty big red flag 🚩 for me
I think it would be unmoored from reality to say that Godot banning 10 people from their GitHub issues constitutes them being "preoccupied with politics." Especially when the whole reason for Redot's existence is to be the "anti-woke Godot"... Which is an inherently political stance to take. Idk. If you ask me, one of them reeks more political than the other. And they *were* slow to respond because none of it was engaging with Godot directly until anti-woke crusaders who were armed with half truths and misrepresentations started spamming the GitHub issues page with slurs and irrelevant shit. Do you want them focusing on their product or do you want them moderating and getting involved in irrelevant political arguments? Can't have it both ways, chief.

I'm sorry, GOG were always the good guys.
Good Old Guys
I wish GOG would release a Linux port of Galaxy... not everything runs perfectly via Lutris (as great as Lutris is)...
Better use Legendary instead; also works with Epic Games. Ubisoft Connect games can mostly be bought via other stores anyway.

Yes.
Heroic is great imo

He needs Epic on Linux because it'd be dumb to let valve monopolize it.

GO GOG!! 💪
I've gotten games on GOG before, they're generally fully playable on Linux

I hope GOG adds patches to VRAM limitation.

Legacy software going free and released into public domain (Daggerfall and Arena) is awesome! ❤
Cool to see Gog doing such great stuff!
Thanks for the news!

I would suggest sticking to the games that do not require PSN in the slightest, like Days Gone, Spider-Man remastered, these games.
Epic still has a lot of issues but that's a super cool move and I'm probably gonna snag copies tonight or tomorrow.

Unreal gold was free so if you missed out on claming it on GOG or Steam we that sucks.
Wait, so Epic is... Trying to be Epic? Good move. If this keeps up, I do reward good behavior.
Umm ExoDos has done game preservation for years. maybe they should team up.
