    Flew Finnair's new Embraer 190 (Helsinki to Saint Petersburg) and I must tell I was blown away by the amount of space and comfort in such a small plane. Nice seats, great leg space even for me (6.5 feet) and a pretty spacy lavatory. Absolutely astonishing work from Embraer with the E- Jets in my opinion. If you have the chance to fly on it do it, you won't regret it!

    They're practically turboprops with the amount of bypass in those engines! :) 16% fuel savings is really impressive.

    • @AmurTiger
      @AmurTiger 5 лет назад +11

      That's only half of it, the other bit that makes those engines very interesting is the fact that they're geared ( allowing for different rotational speeds for the bypass and core ) which also brings them closer to turboprops.

      @Faizal no it doesnt, there is a difference between geared turbofans and regular turbofans, with the geared ones u can run a much larger fan and reduce the rpm so that the tips of the fan dont hit supersonic speeds..

    One of the best sum-ups of any of the the big four's new series. Some, (appreciated) Brasil pride is evident. The honesty of the report is frankly unheard of--this video is, unique. Common sense evaluation. And much appreciated. I can see a difficult desicion for JetBlue to replace the expensive E1s--a revolutionary long-range Bombardier CS or a competitive evolutionary medium-range E2. I don't envy JetBlue's bean counters. They're both amazing series. Canada. Brasil. I'm impressed how Embraer did this update at nearly on budget. The capitalist's market will determine the winner. HOPE EMBRAER STAYS FREE. Thank-you for this report. (and some of us are girls, sir! ;)

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 6 лет назад +2

      Yeah, but that size is something absurd, like 6 metres across or something. (can't remember the exact amount that research papers were saying about high bypass turbofans)
      Assuming I'm not massively mis-remembering things, a 6 metre diameter turbofan would be something you'd struggle to fit to an A380, let alone a small, narrow-body jet...

    • @igotanM16
      @igotanM16 5 лет назад +2

      @@frankgaleon5124 Turbofans are really only efficient between a 9:1 and 11.5:1 bypass ratio. Once you go higher than that the engine starts losing power and thrust and they start using more fuel to compensate for the power loss... engines have pretty much reached their limits like Piston engine propellers did in the early 50's.
      The only area that modern jets can improve in is overall weight, and compression technology.

Another interesting topic to add to the video would be how the issue of scope clause in the United States calls into question how well the new E175 E2 will sell in that market. The new aircraft is too large to be operated by regional airlines under current scope contracts.

    I think the E175-E2 will be a huge seller. I see lots of growth potential in the "short hop" market with planes carrying 60-90 passengers.

    • @rafaelwilks
      @rafaelwilks Год назад +1

      Fast forward four years into the future, the original E175 is still in production with new deliveries, and the E175-E2 still doesn't have a single order - it's a combination of the scope clause in the US market that it was designed for, the heavier fuselage, and the the heavier (and far less reliable) engines. The added length of the E175-E2 adds weight, and, on top of that, the P&W Geared Turbofans weigh more than the good old reliable CF34-8, making it heavier than what the scope clause allows - Embraer made quite a miscalculation there.

    A lot of posts here like all this happened overnight for Embraer.... Anyone remember the Banderantes in the 70s and 80s? Embraer took careful notes with smaller regional airlines at the time using the Bandits and developed an airline following, No surprise they are being used in similar ways. I love Boeings but I was so impressed with the 170 I flew on I got off thinking Boeing better open their eyes lol
