Context for the taxis. First driver in the water New Year’s Day 4.30am with customers in the car. Evacuated etc etc left the car in the water. 6.30am black fully electric vito. Drives into the water with 2 passengers asleep in the back. 2 miles from home from London. He enters with the other taxi in the middle….bins his taxi fire brigade rescue etc. argues with me there was no sign. Missed the signs. The car in the middle. 4ft of water 😅😅😅 professional driver (Addison Lee)

Yep amazing, especially when all emergencies services turn up to save you from getting your feet wet!!
I made the mistake once in about only 2ft of water, although the 3 of us travelling in convoy were doing absolutely fine until a 4x4 decided to overtake us from the rear, at speed creating a bow wave forcing water over the cars… switched the engine off immediately, pushed each other out & gave things a bit of a dry out including the air filter 2 of us had no long term damage!

It’s not only water intake into the engine that kills the cars/vans, it’s also the electric wiring connections that are low in the car. ie wiring looms and connections that run in the sills, under the seats etc that later rust and corrode. So yo replace the engine and a year later the vehicle is failing because the electrics are shot.

Reminds me of when we rented a Renault 4 in Morocco years ago. After 2 days of rain we decided to drive into the mountains. As we went on we encountered a series of floods across the roads. Eventually got to one that was just too deep, and vehicles were queuing to be pushed across.
Had a look at the map and thought there was another road we could try. Of course, more floods and eventually the car packed up after getting through one of them. Getting dark in the middle of nowhere, 50 miles from the hotel.
Got a lift in a passing pickup back to the deep ford, and got a taxi (pushed through the ford by locals) back to the hotel. The car rental people weren't pleased they had to head miles into the hills to recover the car. We did get it back a day later though.

Incredible how dramatically some human beings change when they get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Some think of themselves as invincible and it won’t happen to them. After watching this video it made me think, how many of these drivers have a loan of some description against the vehicle they drive and has it occurred to any of them that the insurance companies will probably not pay out because of due negligence.

I think its called hydraulic lock, if they are lucky. If they are unlucky it's called bent conrod. I've driven Landrovers through water deeper than that, but they were built for it, with their air intakes above the roof.

@@Rover200Power yes but because the batteries tend to run at such high voltage (I think 300-400V in this case) they are supposed to be almost completely water tight so it’s still a little surprising that the EQV failed in this case. However, equally it’s not exactly designed to go waiting through 4ft of water 🙈
