  • cycads are large gymnosperms that vary greatly. cycads consist of many species such as the sago palm, dyon, coontie, cardboard fern, even the loneliest tree in the world known as encephalartus woodlii. cycads are hardy long lived but slow growing. many gardens feature cycads such as sago palms because of there super symetry. please if you like cycads give me a thumbs up and hopefully we will get your subscription. cycads habe been on this earth since before the time of dinosaurs

    I just love your collection of cycads,I live in virginia and had twin sagos 2 feet tall and twin queen sago 3 feet tall with 8 ft span,the asian beetle killed all my cycads 2 years ago. i had this collection for 26 years. It was like loosing a family member to cancer.THANKS !!!! You inspired me to start my new collection,

    I think your unknown cycad in the first couple of minutes was an Encephalartos hilldebrandtii. Your thin leaflet Dioon is a Dioon edule. If you still live in Gainesville, you may want to try some cold hardy Ceratozamias. There are a half dozen species that laugh at 14f where your sagos and coonties will burn at around 17f.

    I planted Sykes in my home garden 13 years ago. He used to send the leaves twice in the same year. It sent the leaves twice, but the leaves did not fully growth , knowing that I fertilize them with organic fertilizer in the fall.

    Mulch it and it will grow fast.
