Nostalgia overload. My mum bought my dad a gp as his first gun, for Christmas in 1960's. The gun he taught me with and I killed my first pigeon with. My son has now used it and shot his first bird with it. My dad is now 78 and it is still his go to gun every time. Shooting is so much more than the kill.
My dad passed down his old Greener GP MK2 to me a couple of years ago; absolutely cracking gun, lots of character and history, smooth action and well balanced. Definitely what i'd class as a "farmer's gun" lol.
Love the GP, friend had one when I was a kid, Now I’ve applied for my fac+Sc it will be one of the first gun I’ll buy along with a Webley and Scott bolt action 4.10 purely for nostalgic reasons!
I still have 2! One with the Cutts Compensator/ multi choke barrel and an early one with the hook on the lever reversed! It catches on pockets, branches, everything....but looks cool!
My GP [27114] is the best rabbit gun I own. It's tight choke means that with a heavy load cartridge it will strike bunnies down at ranges that my other 12 bores are too open pattern to do. 100 in one weekend is the best it has done !.. It's a "keeper" amid other fancier guns.
My Dad had a GP back in the '70s but sold it when the law changed and guns had to be kept in a locked steel cabinet (instead of the wardrobe). As a boy I once shot a wood pigeon at ridiculous range with it. Being frustrated at shooting nothing all day I took aim at what I thought was a starling - it was that high. I killed it stone dead, but its altitude and speed carried it right over a nearby river and into an impenetrable blackthorn thicket on the opposite bank.
I've wanted a Greener GP almost as long as I've wanted a Martini-Henry. Sadly, while Martinis are available in America, at inflated prices, GP's are next to impossible to find here.
Incredibly good video all around--nice views of GPs (not to mention the countryside) and helpful information presented by someone with a contagious passion for these wonderful oldtimers. What makes that strange hump-backed action so appealing? I must have one! Got a line on several and hope to be shooting the pick of the litter on snipe and ducks before year-end. Thank you, Jon!
Have just brought my first Greener GP 11 (love the Martini action) am yet to shoot it however when I do I’m sure it will stand up there with all the other types of sg’s I own, great video keep them coming am a fan now👍
These guns are fantastic, they're do for a revival. In my mind they're like the Savage 99 of the shotgun world, they are just so simplistic and fun to use!!
This comment is 2+ years late, but do you guys sell internationally? I live in the US and would love to get a Greener GP(for the Martini action of course), but over here they are pretty rare.
I know it's 2+ years late... but it would probably be easier/cheaper to import one from Canada... No, they are not as common as in the UK, and no, they are not as inexpensive as in the UK... but quite a few of them were imported over the years.
I have a feeling if I continue watching the forgotten guns episodes my collection will increase, my safe count will go to three, and my bank account will go to zero.
@@tgsoutdoors Don't do that on my account. Just kidding. Seems like the nicer more unique guns can be more easily found over there and more budget friendly. I'm jealous. Thanks for the episodes. Please keep them coming.
Have two early ones as you say brilliant guns ones a 28 inch barrel the other is a 32 inch , the 28 inch belonged to a family friend who used it a lot in Uganda back in the 60s when he worked for the British government at the time he shot everything from solid rounds to buckshot down it real allrounder . People can be snobbish about them though was asked on a relatively posh driven shoot a few years ago after the first drive I was asked to either get a proper two barrels or to leave the field the guy at the time did not know I did all the estates contract work , when the owner of the estate found out he was the one asked to leave Lol people !, good gun though always my go to when shooting vermin . Thanks for an informative video regards .
Nice video, guys. I just picked one up in the states, after searching for one for several years with no luck. Oddly enough, mine doesn't have the usual GP markings, safety or checkering on the stock/forend, but is in 12GA, 2 3/4" chamber and a .719" bore. In your video, you mentioned that you had to have a license for the "Rarer" variants, is that a separate license from a normal UK shotgun license?
@@ragnarragnarsson3128 I think I paid like 5 or 600 on GunBroker and sold it for a bit more than that a while later. Nice shotguns but the recoil is pretty harsh with them being as light as they are
@Planes & Guns I would pay sub 1k for one I think. Would plan on shooting reduced loads however. Will keep looking for one. I wonder how many are over here?
@Planes & Guns gotcha yeah I was thinking more for recoil sake. I am sure the martini action can handle full power loads all day, just not my shoulder lol
I picked one up a few months ago and it is in overall good condition but has some slight pitting on the breech block! For what you get i think they are a cheap rough gun! 🇬🇧
Good man, nice tribute. As a martini addict and a owner of quite a few geeners, you did the gun proud there (By the way, was that a 32" you had, lovely condition)
Have one the action seems a little inconsistently sticky think it could do with being taken apart and the actual action cleaned not quite sure how to do so hoping this vid has that in (edit nope it didn't)
Got a couple. 26" 2 1/2 and 30" 2 3/4. Both fitted with sling and great to carry all day for miles rough shooting or in line on keeper's days. Light and pointable. Stocks are just a lump of wood to put in your shoulder; no attempt to match comb height, stock length etc. Short stocks for use with bulky clothing.
Local shop here in California tried to sell me one the other week. The man behind the counter thought was 14 gauge, warned me I wouldn't be able to find ammo for it. Listening to you, you've got me thinking he had one of the Greener proprietary cartridge variants.
Got 3 of these fab guns including a 30 inch trap gun all shoot true . Choke is right DTL birds get smoked even if left a bit longer MY SON enjoys a bit of trap with his great grandads greener trap when he isnt using O/U .
Such a nice video, bro I have a gun like this but not sure it's greener or what has no marks and stamps can u Plz give me ur email so I can show you pics and u can confirm me..... Am from Pakistan Thanks
I suspect that comment was in light of the fact that you have to screw the barrel all the way out, the thread isn't interrupted. And also when it is apart, the barrel is still almost 3 feet long.
These guns were definitely not quality gun. Be very careful when buying these, checking barrel thread is essential on these guns. Also the actions and foreend as these do not age well. The screw used to tighten the action, the take down screw needs checking to make sure the thread is good as these are a wearing factor. I bought one of these from a local gun shop and the foreend cracked right open and split my finger and it only had three cartridges through it!

Basically a Martini Henry you can actually still get ammo for! I wish these were easier to find in the U.S.
I have one shootgun of mi grand grand father, it have 2 cannbons cal. 16. He bought it in Argentina, and it was made in 1885. Its incredible,

was a Greener GP ever made in .410 or 20? single shots are still awesome and i like one for going in the brush with buck shot
What about 16 gauge? In the US, we keep finding these in some strange 14 gauge configuration, made for colonial India?
Just got one in 4.10 love it 😀
Can you help me find the date on my martini? Or know where I can look it up?
I have one of this too.
I need to badly know how to clean & oiling this.
would u please show how to do that?
I’d love to have one but their not very common here in Canada the police version is available here and there but most are the odd 12/14 shells
20 rounds a minute sounds like a feat with a Lee-Enfield, let alone a martini.

Great fun guns - and no less capable than any other

Definitely a well made all round 12 bore shotgun, and it’s English 👌👍
My greener gp not pulling out use bullet. how i can solve my problem?
Beautiful guns, ive never been lucky enough to see you in the flesh though.
Interesting blaster...!

Were they all 12 bore ? One in 20 bore would be a nice light gun for walked up game, especially over rough or hilly ground.
Some were made in 16 bore.
Im looking for a greener as my first gun for rough shooting . I shoot left handed though..... Are they ambidextrous?
Don't know about cast on stock but my dad's friend used to shoot it off left shoulder with great success
Only problem is safety tang is right sided

Buy it all the same - cartridges can be found or made, definitely worth the hassle for the chance to own a bit of history!
Nathaniel Porter would it be a police gun? They used strange gauges so that they couldn’t be stolen and used by the public I read somewhere
Same thing happened to me, and in Cali as well. Would have been in Poway would it?
Caught me. And yes Francis Fowler, I'll fairly certain it's a colonial police model. Looks the part at least.
I'm after one. Love the old English guns. I want a greener that fires all inc slug tho
I want one. How much is a quid?
About tree fiddy.
What about a review on the German drilling shotgun .eg Thieme & Schlegelmilch in Suhl, non rod ect . Loveing the videos guys keep it up
wish i could find one of these state side
