Thanks for leaving this comment cause that actually was one comparison I wanted to do but didn’t have time to get done (mainly couldn’t find a big beautiful house). Pinning this with the hope that anyone interested in fly throughs sees your comment cause that is definitely one of the Avata 2‘s strengths. I’ve gotten indoor drone shots before with other Mini drones and the Mavic Air, but you’re right - it’s always a bit sketch, even with the prop guards.
I own both and can say I apples and oranges .. each have their pros and cons but together they are a killer combo. I take cinematic shots and kind of scan area of filming for potential hazards with m4p then come in avata 2 for the proximity flying and crazy shots you see online 🎉
I’d agree with you there - that was one of the reasons I started the video by saying that they basically have nothing in common. And if everyone could get 2 drones I 100% agree that they do make a great pair as they both offer very different capabilities. Safe flying out there and thanks for the comment 🤙
I love my DJI mini 4 pro so much I went out and brought an Avata 2 as well so that should do for a bit. I'm just waiting on a good enough day to get them up at the same time, see how that goes. Retirement might be more fun than I was thinking 😜🚁
I own a Mini 4 pro, its one of my favourite purchases. Turned me into a whole DJI fanboy. I love flying it and its incredibly smart with its 6 obstacle avoidance cameras
I am looking to get my first drone and was wondering if I should get Mini 4 pro or the Avata. This video made it pretty clear that Mini 4 is the one for me. I like how you explained whether one drone can play the role of another. It seems Mini 4 can play an FPV whne need to an extent but an FPV drone can't really become your memory capture camera in the air. FPV is more for the experience of flying. Mini 4 pro is about a good quality camera that can fly.
Excellent honest review, and it is clear that the person really understands drones. I have a similar opinion about the avata2, it gives emotions. But the mini 4 pro is a serious full-fledged and modern drone. You can take the avata as an addition to the classic drone
Excellent evaluation! As others have mentioned, I own both. I've been in this hobby for 45 years, flying quadcopters since they first came out (Flamewheel 450 anyone?). You summed it up nicely when you stated the Mini 4 Pro is a flying camera; the Avata 2 is an aerobatic FPV drone. Both can do a little of each, but they are specialized for their specific purposes. One note: The Avata 2 price includes the Goggles; the Mini 4 Pro price does not. So if you want to fly the Mini 4 Pro with the Goggles 3, you'll need to fork over another $500 or so.
Great point about the Goggles and I would add the Motion Controller as well, although technically for the avata you also need to fork out 200 extra on the fpv 3 controller. Overall the only thing that is missing in this review is the guidance to personal introspection, I also have flown both fpv and cine drones over the years and like both, but still the footage I like the most is the more dynamic one I get on my Avata. I'm not bothered by the lower camera quality versus the mini as to my eye it looks mostly the same on a 65' 4k TV (but also don't go crazy with post edits, I prefer as close to reality as possible so I can save memories, not Instagram or RUclips eye candy). Best case scenario is to have both and use what you like/ what fits in for that particular shot the best. Also, flame wheel 450, wow! Back then I would have been so jealous, all I could afford was RC Explorer tricopter, but not the frame, just the RUclips videos then dyi out of wood :)
Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro are different tools for different purposes ... they both have their value ... Avata2 is aimed at very close and tight spaces shooting whereas Mini Pro 4 is better all around ... me personally I have an Air 3 and the Avata2 ... and they both are distinctively functional and valuable to me. When people get caught up in comparisons to try to buy ONE it all comes out to not enough money to buy both :)
Thank you for your very helpful review. I trust well worth staying up late to produce:) Thanks also for your other inspiring videos. Thumbs up and subbed with best wishes. 👍
That’s very helpful. I have the Mini 4 Pro and ended up getting the Neo for FPV and selfie shots. Would be interesting to see a Neo vs Avata 2 comparison.
Very informative video! I've had the mini 3 pro over 2 years and got the Avata 2 when it came out. I'm planning to sell the 3 and just got the mini 4 pro and use the Avata 2's controller and goggles. It would be less expensive than the 4's fly more combo
Thanks! Glad it was informative for you! I hope you're talking about using the Motion Controller (and not the FPV/Gaming style controller) with the Mini4 Pro cause currently the M4P only works with the RC2 controller (with no goggles) or motion controller with goggles.
Very useful and well done video thanks. One important feature is lowest latency with Goggles 3. With Avata it is 24ms (1080p/100fps). How about Mini 4 Pro ?
Thanks man. This is the video I was looking for, was in torn between the m4p and a2 altho my wife was leaning more towards a2, I was more into the slow, cinematic feels of it all. M4p for sure, plus after more than an hour of watching non stop fpv videos, I was motion sick and almost threw up..
I do own both, also Air 3 and Avata 1... I do think the Avata 2 camera is very good, it's the same as the Action 4 camera. Much bigger sensor than on the Mini 4 Pro. It can do 4K100fps and so on.
It’s definitely a better camera than the original Avata 1, however the Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro use basically the same sensor (could actually be the same OV48C unit just with the quadbayer feature enabled for 48mp mode in the Mini 4 Pro) - though with a different lens and processor combo. Both can shoot 4K/100fps but the Avata 2 tops out at 130Mbps while the Mini 4 Pro can record 150Mbps (and notably with 10bit color).
I’ve been flying both for 6+ months. Since the Avata has the greater surface (prior aviation engineer) is why the wind profile has a great frontal resistance to free flow of air, which it why it’s not as good n the wind. When the winds are 15+ I just fly the Mini 4 Pro, really like them both for both worlds of flying. Have to try the Master Airscrew (4-blade) I got and yet to install to fly. I got the 4 Pro for the range on my site surveys, band the A-2 for real estate fly throughs and the tight obstacle (forest flying between trees). Still wanna try the goggles with the Mini 4 Pro…soon I hope! Two drones that have their separate “best at” by design.🇺🇸
Thank you so much for your comment! It’s great to hear someone with actual qualifications back up my theory (albeit using the proper terminology) about the Avata 2 performing more poorly in the wind. And yeah, they’re both great in their own way - glad you got the opportunity to own both and figure out which works best for each situation you need.
Thanks for your video. Very helpful! Definitely interested in the Mini 4 Pro. Do you think it will be worth the wait to try and find a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal?
Professor, help me out. I'm in doubt between the Mine 4 Pro and the Avatar 2. I really like FPV. Do you think the Avatar 2 loses a lot of quality by cropping it vertically? Because sometimes I do some work for Instagram, but I only have money to buy one, lol. I know that the Avatar 2 makes unstable flights like the Mine 4 Pro. I would like to know if the images are good for vertical cropping with the Avatar 2? I have a DJI Neo here. If I were you, which one would you choose?
Put prop guards in mini 4 and you’re not supposed to use the plus battery. Install standard battery and it inhibits RID but with guards you’re required to have RID and register because you’re over 250. They screwed up when they did that!
well one is a fly around and the other is a FPV. price difference is only $250. i got the mini 2 se and love it. would like the avata 2. would be fun. dont know what this almost ddi ban will do.
Thanks! I actually was inspired to update the spreadsheet cause of your comment so now it also has the new Neo as well as a secondary spreadsheet with just the current drones for those trying to compare buying options.
Unfortunately no. The FPV drones require either an FPV RC Controller or Motion Controller. However the new Neo can be flown with basically any combination of current controllers.
Ok so I have an original Mavic Pro and was looking at one of these two to add to the mix. I was heading towards the Avata 2 but I think the Mini 4 makes more sense. Is there a set of Google's that DJI make that will work with both the the Mini 4 Pro and my Mavic? If not, what is the best (future proof) set of goggles to buy that would work with the Mini at least?
Yeah I’d say if you liked the Mavic Pro the Mini 4 Pro will be more of a direct upgrade and does make more sense for you. As for Googles that work for both, unfortunately because the Mavic Pro uses the DJI GO 4 App (and an older OcuSync version) it is not compatible with the newer googles used by the Mini 4 Pro. Both the DJI Googles 3 & Googles Integra are compatible with the M4P, but given that they are newer (and more expensive by $146) the Googles 3 are slightly more future proofed.
Is this a pictures from french Guiana on your desktop in the background? :) Me was editing a documentary about this island. it seems i used a take nearly the same like this. beautiful
I had the mini 4 pro I bow I have the avata 2. I wanna get the mini 4 pro again because I can’t do the stuff I want to do with the avata. And vice versa so each drone has its own use.
Very true. I mostly like the Mini 4 Pro for the type of videos and I shoot, however, once in a while I do wish I had the Avata 2 with me. It really all comes down to personal preference/What do you intend on using the drone for.
Nope, it’s actually tracking you via the camera so doesn’t rely on the remote’s location. But I almost always have mine in hand when using active track (and recommend others do as well) cause it can be unpredictable at times and being able to grab the controls at a moments notice could be the difference between a crash and not.
This comparison seems quite unfair. First and foremost, the Mini 4 Pro's FPV capabilities are significantly overestimated. It lacks the power, speed, and throttle control needed for effective maneuvering, especially in stronger winds. These factors are crucial for a genuine FPV experience; it's not just about streaming the view to goggles. Additionally, the most premium segment of drone filming is exclusive to FPV. Whether you're chasing cars, boats, or extreme athletes, the Mini 4 Pro falls short, while the Avata 2 has the performance needed for professional applications-it’s far from being just a toy. I understand your preference for camera drones, but just as you detailed the Avata 2's limitations for traditional aerial shooting, it would be fair to address the Mini 4 Pro's limitations for FPV flying. FPV is no less nuanced than conventional camera drone operation; I’d argue it’s even more complex.
I 100% agree with you. I tried to point out my bias towards camera drones too so that people could be aware of it but appreciate you adding in your perspective here in the comments as someone who seems to have more experience and knowledge of the FPV world of drones. The only thing I would suggest is that most people who are deciding between the Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro aren’t really necessarily looking to get into FPV. From talking to people who bought or owned the Avata 2, they mostly liked the “more immersive view of the goggles” (something I fundamentally disagree with but that’s a different story) and the motion controller. I agree that if I were to compare the Mini 4 Pro to the Avata 2 on the grounds of someone trying to fly full manual acro who had been an FPV pilot for 10 years - yeah the M4P isn’t even in the same league. To that same end though, any professional cinematographer would laugh at the Avata 2 being used as a camera drone. Ultimately I appreciate your comment with constructive criticism and feedback. When making these videos it’s basically inherent that I won’t be able to please everyone’s POV so I’m always grateful when those who don’t agree with me don’t just thumbs down and click away but take the time to eloquently explain their disagreement.
That’s weird, I get my mini 4 pro up to 86mph according to my remote. Doesn’t accelerate super fast which is why I was considering the Avata 2. Any of you experience the same??
Pretty sure that’s a glitch. I haven’t experienced the same myself, but I know a friend as well as several people online that’ve had a similar issue. Usually it’s like 96mph or 100mph. Ultimately I think it’s just a DJI Fly App conversion issue so just reset. Maybe try switching between imperial and metric first if that changes anything.
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips I appreciate the response and yes I had a feeling something was up or mine was defective in a good way lol. I’ll give that a try, i appreciate it
Will almost definitely be the DJI Neo sometime in the next few weeks. After that the only possible ones we’ll see in 2024 are the Mini 4 or the Air 3S but nothing is confirmed in any way.
Thanks for the video. I'm just getting started (awaiting my 1st drone on its way) and will be looking into licensing once I study the required materials/rules. I reached out to someone I know from high school who works with drones for guidance on best practice/ study guides... Nada! So, if anyone has any non-controversial advice, I'd appreciate it.
I have my part 107 and work with drones as well, we had a 1.5 day internally done class where we basically went through a practice test booklet and looked at all the questions and then I studied on my own time for one more day after that again with the books practice questions, I believe I got an 85 or so on the test
I came here 99% sure I was going to get the Avada 2. Now I am 100% sure that I don't know what the hell to get. Looks like another year without a drone for me LOL😅 I'm a photographer, and I definitely want to step up my aerial game. It sounds like the mini 4 is the right drone for what I want to do, but I am an absolute noob to drone piloting. I'm legit going to un-alive myself if I explode my drone on day one.
Sorry for the added confusion haha. I don’t know your situation 100% but from the little you just described the Mini 4 Pro would be a great match. And they’re honestly not that hard to pilot. If you want to start out with a more affordable option maybe look at the new Neo from DJI. It’s super limited but it’ll get you in the air and practicing flying for less than $400.
Manuals are for nerds…and apparently also for people who want to know how to actually use all the features of their drone. Good eye and thanks for sharing the tip with anyone else who’s an idiot like me.
always thought that normal drone videos were great and that is the new standard, amazing view from a new angle, dont need a helicopter etc etc... then I saw how people film with avata 2, the angles and the motion they get, (if you can find them on youtube where they beam around the coastline etc) - it makes all the other drone footage looks nearly static and extremely boring to me now while avata shots look like a mini fighterjet buzzing around... cant even compare
⬆️ This ⬆️ is actually a really good point. I guess I missed it cause I was more focused on seeing which was better, but if anyone out there is planning on getting both, technically this is the cheapest way to go - especially if you get the Mini 4 Pro drone only and fly only with the Motion Controller and goggles. But also, not everyone needs or has the money for two drones. Still appreciate you dropping the knowledge.
Avata 2: In short, It’s all about the flying experience! producing very flowy videos and making you feel like you can fly like a bird. Mini 4 Pro: A portable cinematic flying camera which is amazing for both video and stills - more versatile if you had to choose between the two.
Way to perfectly summarize a video that I spent several weeks making in two short paragraphs 😂 But yeah, that’s basically the thesis of this video. Only edit would be I’d say “bee” instead of “bird” because the Avata 2 doesn’t quite have the speed or power of some of the bigger FPV drones out there to really allow you to feel like you’re soaring but can fly through smaller places.
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips 🤣 Maybe, but two short paragraphs are nowhere near as compelling as the video you spent several weeks making. Agreed - Maybe a “Bee” would have been a better analogy - my comment was written late at night when my brain was less than optimal 🤣. Great video by the way.
That’s very true and especially notable when comparing it to other FPV drones that often are incredibly modular and repairable. However, when compared to the Mini 4 Pro, they both can’t be worked on so I decided not to mention it.
I mean I personally wouldn’t do that but it depends what you’re looking for. What do you want to do that the Avata 2 offers but your Mini 4 Pro is falling short?
The Avata 2 can shoot in 4:3 (which is almost square) and then you can crop in that footage for vertical video, but does not have a true vertical mode like the Mini 4 Pro does.
I really wish I found this ahead of time. I was always interested in FPV's but didn't know there is no follow features for Avata 2. Now with goggles and motion controller supporting Mini4 Pro, thats the killer combo that anyone can go for. Unless you have a future plan to play with manual mode (which you require a different controller), I would say go with Mini4 Pro. The drive time is not more than 7-9 min, so it takes lot of batteries/recharges to get better.
Totally agree. I literally start my video by saying that. But tons of people kept asking about which of these two to get in forums online so I decided to make a video about it regardless of how different they were.
Apologies about that 😂 but I’m also partially speaking from my own personal experience so don’t worry you’re not alone. I’m thinking of starting a support group Drone-aholics Anonymous.
thanks. Try to do inside house tour video with mini 4 pro (even with prop guards) lol

Is this a good first time FPV drone?
@@xavierxstatic1 yes it is since it’s plug and play I recommend it. Now with cross compatibility with o3 system you can build your own drone

Ok so I have an original Mavic Pro and was looking at one of these two to add to the mix. I was heading towards the Avata 2 but I think the Mini 4 makes more sense.
FPV with my Mini 4 Pro is certainly quieter than the Avata 2. I just can’t achieve those tighter fly throughs without risk of damaging the Mini.
Thanks, I needed this!!

Good eye, but not quite. I took that in Costa Rica down along the Osa Peninsula with my Mavic 3.
Appreciate the vid!
Cool thanks.👍
Thanks
If they used the same batteries I would buy both
Do you need to have the remote out for the mini 4 pro to follow you?
Nope, it’s actually tracking you via the camera so doesn’t rely on the remote’s location. But I almost always have mine in hand when using active track (and recommend others do as well) cause it can be unpredictable at times and being able to grab the controls at a moments notice could be the difference between a crash and not.
@@DigitalTechReviewsTipsif we are in motorbike we need 2 hands 😂😂
I’ll give that a try, i appreciate it
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips you were right, in km it went up to like 46kmh
I've gotten 6250ft with trees blocking view
thank you!!
Thanks 😊
incredible comparison
Thanks.
when the next dji drone? dji air3s ? mini5pro?
Will almost definitely be the DJI Neo sometime in the next few weeks. After that the only possible ones we’ll see in 2024 are the Mini 4 or the Air 3S but nothing is confirmed in any way.
I have both and together is a nice video
Thank you so much Sir!!!!!....❤
Thank you
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!....🥰
Thanks for the video.
Looks like another year without a drone for me LOL😅
I'm a photographer, and I definitely want to step up my aerial game.
ThnkU❤
Great
Both for me...
Great video thanks.
Actually if you hold the "photo/video" button on the avata 2, you change from video to photo in an instant... read the manual if you do a review?
Manuals are for nerds…and apparently also for people who want to know how to actually use all the features of their drone. Good eye and thanks for sharing the tip with anyone else who’s an idiot like me.
@Leon, throwing the phrase "you don't have to be an ass about it" out with the bathwater. 😂
always thought that normal drone videos were great and that is the new standard, amazing view from a new angle, dont need a helicopter etc etc... then I saw how people film with avata 2, the angles and the motion they get, (if you can find them on youtube where they beam around the coastline etc) - it makes all the other drone footage looks nearly static and extremely boring to me now while avata shots look like a mini fighterjet buzzing around... cant even compare
Awesome video, now I want them both... 😂😂😂
Oof yeah that is kinda the downside of watching any drone related video for me too 😂
Soon i will get the DJI mini 4 pro is tiny
Price for Avata 2 fly kit is just a little higher then to buy only goggles 3 + controller - so for me better to buy Avata 2 + Mini 4 pro :)
Still appreciate you dropping the knowledge.
nice Video bro
Avata 2: In short, It’s all about the flying experience! producing very flowy videos and making you feel like you can fly like a bird.
Mini 4 Pro: A portable cinematic flying camera which is amazing for both video and stills - more versatile if you had to choose between the two.
Way to perfectly summarize a video that I spent several weeks making in two short paragraphs 😂
But yeah, that’s basically the thesis of this video.
The only problem on avata 2 is non repairable you need dji care fresh
That’s very true and especially notable when comparing it to other FPV drones that often are incredibly modular and repairable. However, when compared to the Mini 4 Pro, they both can’t be worked on so I decided not to mention it.
This is just what I needed coz I am contemplating about trading my Mini 4 pro fmc for an Avata 2 fmc😢🎉... anyone help pls...m
I mean I personally wouldn’t do that but it depends what you’re looking for. What do you want to do that the Avata 2 offers but your Mini 4 Pro is falling short?
Does anyone know if the Avata 2 can shoot portrait videos for Instagram Reels?
The Avata 2 can shoot in 4:3 (which is almost square) and then you can crop in that footage for vertical video, but does not have a true vertical mode like the Mini 4 Pro does.
Slow Cinematic shots vs Fast Cinematic Shots..
Bro just hates the avata 2
I really wish I found this ahead of time. I was always interested in FPV's but didn't know there is no follow features for Avata 2. Now with goggles and motion controller supporting Mini4 Pro, thats the killer combo that anyone can go for. Unless you have a future plan to play with manual mode (which you require a different controller), I would say go with Mini4 Pro. The drive time is not more than 7-9 min, so it takes lot of batteries/recharges to get better.
They arent to be versed against each other.. Different horses for different courses.
Totally agree. I literally start my video by saying that. But tons of people kept asking about which of these two to get in forums online so I decided to make a video about it regardless of how different they were.
...and what not...
That FOMO comment hurt 😂😂😂
Apologies about that 😂 but I’m also partially speaking from my own personal experience so don’t worry you’re not alone. I’m thinking of starting a support group Drone-aholics Anonymous.
👍
10min fly time is insane 😭 for $1k
10 minutes + is insanely good for fpv drone tho. Most can only go 4-5 minutes before you have to change batteries.
