2019 KIA ProCeed Shooting Brake (not an estate! :-) ) (ENG) - First Test Drive and Review

- 2019 KIA ProCeed is not a 3-door hatchback, but a 5-door coupe-estate, better known as a shooting brake. But don’t worry. KIA assures the new ProCeed is just as sporty, just targeted at a different audience, who is willing to pay 700 euro more for a less practical station wagon.
Starting price: 27 700 euro
As tested: 31 000 euro

Thanks Marek, thanks to holy cow it is not another SUV...
It's not a small cross-over, SUV or off-road....I love it!
Fear not! I'm sure they're going to jack it up, add some plastic around the fenders, and charge even more :)
Have 1... Lovely looking car in the flesh.... Irish car down on spec compare to UK market... Auto Air Con, Heated seats etc... Something to do with VRT me thinks... Otherwise tis nice machine and something a bit different...
Wow, Bob Flavin watches your channel too!!! What a honour Marek!!! What about you guys do a video together?
Looks cool, and it's much more useful than a 3 door. I think it's a good move from KIA. I would almost consider one, if prices would be more KIA aligned :P
Man, did they nail the back of the car. With this car and the Stinger, KIA is currently offering some real good competition to us Germans. Really like these two cars.
well expressed, think this too!
Looked at one of these today, very impressed with the build and interior feel, also looks great.
Great review and very enlightening. Just saw a Proceed in my local dealer and was very pleasantly surprised by the styling and finish.

Mega odcinek 👌😀😀👊
Stunning lookIng car and excellent review as always.
Best looking Kia I've ever seen.
JFomo stinger?
@@ernadsBMW Nah. Maybe if they put this front bumper on the Stinger🤔
Yeah for sure. Kia is making very good and nice looking cars nowadays.
I like this car very much, would fit to me. I have no family but I pick up often friends with a child, so a bit of boot space is necessary for the pram etc. & I like very much, that you vary in your reviews the order, the sequences what you are talking about, depending what the focus of the car is about and don't following a gridlocked scheme, so it's not boring. That's why I follow you maybe for 4 or 5 years!
Very good review Marku :-) Pozdrawiam
Saw it last time at KIA dealership in white. It was beautiful. Such attention to detail and well thought design. The car really feels high quality. Well done Kia!
Great review . Very tempted to buy one ...
I didn't think it was a good idea for Kia to move away from the classic 3dr hot hatch format but just the other day I saw one of these parked up in the UK and it's a genuinely stunning looking vehicle that also looks very upmarket. Kia has done an exceptional job on the design and has made it a truly desirable car.
Wow, I really am getting old. I like to be able to see clearly out of the rear windscreen. Old fashioned, eh? Great review, btw, fair and balanced as always 👍
6:38, damn that's close! Nice car, considering buying one soon.
@6:39 way too close to the fence or am I imagining it?
I really like this car. It's shooting brake and yes, the 5th door reminds Panamera.
Great review, Marek. If only Kia offered this (or even the estate) in the U.S. Kia, if you’re listening, if you want to beat the Civic in the U.S., start by offering THIS!
Apparently US buyers are not big on station wagons.
Marek Drives Sadly, true. Everyone one (like me) says they love station wagons; nobody buys them. Just like manual transmissions.
Marek Drives I am American and I am one of the few that LOVE station wagons.
I can't abide SUV's or CUV's!
I feel you brother! :)
@@williamegler8771 The problem is that Americans only like big and muscle cars. We, in Europe want practically and fuel economy.
Love the design! Wish that rear light joined up though.... And perhaps kia should put the 2.0 280 bhp engine in it.... Like the hyundai N series. That would be a merc CLA 45 rival then for sure especially on price!
I guess you can look at this car two ways. It's either an impractical wagon, or a more practical sedan. I think it looks great. Shame it doesn't get a hotter engine. Oh well, I guess I'll have to buy the Porsche version. ;) Nice review Marek!
1.6 turbo whit 204 hp is a hot engine. Enough for fwd.
Ur English is awesome with great accent. Cheers!
great review.love the look of it. Yes Porsche Panamera look to the rear section but I think it's better for it.
I guess those boy racers that brought the original proceed have now settled down and got married and now they can buy the new proceed for the whole family. lol
lol thats what i did :D
Nice video. Love the design..maybe I should sell my Sportage
Is a beautiful sw, like de merc CLA
Wagons should make a comeback.
In the US hell yeah. But other countries are loaded with them. Lucky them. I hate SUVs.
Such a great looking car
The new Forte 5 we get in North America looks kinda similar, but has a different rear end look. Nice car. I like the rounded Porsche 928-era rounded back-end.
Doggo says wow Such sporty wow! Fajnie nawiazales do memow :))
If you get the GT it's probably the best looking and best performing car in it's class. You get a lot of HP/Euro spent.
Thanks Marek!! Love your videos!! Did your test car have heated front windscreen, I’ve seen pictures of it, but nothing in the UK spec list!!?
I haven't seen UK price list. In Poland we get a winter package for about 500 euro, which includes heated front seats, heated window washer nozzles, heated steering wheel, and heated windshield. Heated windshield is unavailable for with the diesel. I don't know why.
Marek Drives thanks Marek, I think with Kia in the UK you don’t have many options, we have GT line, GT Line S and GT, and again not sure if we get the vents in the back, GT Line S is about £29.000 so quite a bit of money compared to my Seat Leon which I have just got at £21, 000 for a 1.5 FR I would have loved to have got one of these though !!
Oh, and Marek, your English is pretty much faultless now - really impressive.
Was it fawlty beefor? :)
@@MarekDrives Hahaha Well...it was more noticeable before, now it's really natural with just a few "the"s missing. You're starting to make Autogefuhl look bad!
A lot of uninformed negative comments here from people who had probably never seen one when this review was done, three years on I’ve got one,it’s a stunning car,oh and all this guff about Tom Tom,never had any issues.
Love it! Mercedes design, but better!
I bought blue 1 today i will receive it tomorrow gt line
Hi Marek,
Please tell me is there a big difference between Kia Proceed Gt Line and Skoda Superb facelift in terms of comfort, quality riding? I understand the cars are in two different segments, but wondering how big (or small) the differences are? Thank you
enjoyed that video. whats the soundtrack in the background?
YT stock music.
I was only telling my mail order wife the other day, if only a non premium brand could make a 5 door mid-size sporting break that offered less space less visibility and cost more l would be there in a shot
Don't forget a rubbish Info Sat Nav, as Tom-Tom is supposed to be, without an option to flee to Android Auto, cause it doesn't work, as usual...
Thanks Marek. How was the 1.4 engine and dct gearbox? In the UK we can't have the GT Line S trim (all options included) with the 1.6 engine.. So want to make sure the 1.4 isn't gutless!
The 1.4 turbo is OK.
I think it looks great and is great value for money. Only if the interior was slighlty different than the normal Ceed, then it would be really great.
But what is your opinion? Would you buy a Proceed? I felt that you really liked the car!
Value for money? It's one of the most expensive compacts on the market.
I agree that's it is value for money for the amount of kit comes with. All standard Kia's pretty much well kitted out but having watched a lot of reviews on kia motors they all suffer from a driving point of view and gearbox not been that great.
I read a few comments about comparisons to the posche like rear end, that's because one of the designers worked for Porsche as you can see those influences on the Sportage, plus they also have someone who worked for BMW on the M series in their ranks.
@Paul Darby
They may be well equipped in the US but for example in Poland Ceed comes with a pretty basic equipment and very old (and anemic) engine.
Definitely not a patch on the 3 door pro Ceed on looks. Miss the ice cube lights.
Good to see reviews with some critique. Now is my turn, why didn't you test the GT version, that's the idea of choosing that car over the ceed sw isn't it. Anyway keep up the critique!
There's only so much I can do having the car for 5-6 hours. Usually it would take a week to write and film a review, but during these first drive launch events time is limited. We typically fly in midday on day 1, and we're out by midday on day 2.
To me - and this is highly subjective - a shooting brake is a three door, slightly hightened, preferably all-wheel-drive car with a prolonged back designed to carry a dead bore or something (I'm not a hunter, this is just for illustrative purposes). There are no cars like that on the market nowadays as they have ben replaced with off-roaders and SUVs.
Anyways, Volvo Concept Estate was sort of like that, but instead they decided to build more SUVs, coz, you know, what's better than a two ton SUV in a busy modern city? (Only a three ton truck ;)) Subaru also was thinking about a smaller shooting brake once (Sport Cross concept). It also had this extra cool two-part rear trunk door, to carry longer objects with upper part closed and the lower part - open. But nobody wanted it. Except for me and a couple more weirdos, that is ;(
Your description is nothing like the original Shooting Brakes except for the dead BOAR.
The PROCEED logo and the single strip backlight does look like it directly was copied from the Porsche panamera
Aaron Ming tbf to kia. They have had the light bar on their sportage for the last 3 years now
Is not copied is look close like Mercedes E estate but no porches and design come from optima sportvagon concept and unique tail led back is from sportage ok stop kiss ass porches seriously.
I find the Kia interiors very reminiscent of the previous gen Audis - a lot of similarities to my 2013 A4. Is anyone else noticing the same?
It's good to see a manufacturer doing something other then yet more SUVs.. I think it looks great save for a couple of small things;
Not keen on the proceed script, I just hate the stuck-on-letter look even if it's a homage to Porsche. Also what's going on with the weird chrome trim after the c pillar along the window line? It Just looks daft.
I'd buy it over the *cough* estate.
Don't worry, SUV (crossover) version of the Ceed will come later this year :D
Looks good, kinda sucks that Kia won't bring that here and get rid of their Forte.
Great video, thank you. Shame as time has went on they have degraded the headlights, the gt line now comes with standard h7 halogen headlights on the 2022 model
Which market is that? I just checked the Polish market spec, and over here GT-Line comes with all-LED external lighting - low beam, high beam, fog, indicators, DRL, and rear lamps.
@@MarekDrivesENG that's frustrating, I am in Northern Ireland, so UK. Only the gt line s comes with the led headlights. Gt line shows only led driving lights, indicators, rears etc but h7 halogen headlights
We only have the GT-Line and GT (I suppose the latter is your GT S with the 204 hp motor?). And I agree halogen headlights are not enough these days, especially when you pay extra for the cool-looking estate. Perhaps KIA is trying to keep the price down in the UK following Brexit?
@@MarekDrivesENG we have a gt line which comes with a 1.5gdi 158bhp and same with the gt line s (only difference is trim. Sunroof, 18" alloys, led headlights and auto gearbox) then a 1.6 204bhp gt model. Although I was speaking to kia dealer this afternoon and all the automatic ceed range are being taken of the production line along with many other models, suspects its due to parts coming from factory outside of Ukraine. So I've had to order a manual gt line as this was the only option
we need to bring this car to US
I just don't understand why you can't get the GT S spec trim with the 1.6 GT engine. Another weird move from Kia that undermines the potential.
A mixture of Panamera with Talismã??
Me! :) Had the mk1 "pro 'ceed", bought 9 years ago. Csr was a classic car in the segment, nothing special, just a 3 door hatchback. But it looked different and that was the main thing. These days, they can put in a 800hp V8 with a fuel consumption of 3l per 100km and give it to me for 10k euros with 10 years unlimited warranty and I wouldnt take it! Why? The bloody thing is so low and uncomfortable that even newest lexus LS comfort seats wouldn't help it. Not to mention parking in a city, thats a nightmare, was and still is no matter on your experience, sensors and cameras do help a bit but theres still situations they cant help... I wish they would place comfort and functionality on #1 spot. Not because Im not in shape and all, I still have an oldschool coupe for enjoyment but when you need to use car on regular, daily basis you want more comfort and functionality being young or not.
Is the proceed safe
TomTom is not rubbish, pretty bold statement.
Whats up with the term "shooting brake"... Never Heard it before.. Is it because its almost like SW? And how are the space in the back for Kids carseats?
Like many terms in automotive body design it goes back to horse-drawn carriages. Shooting brake is something they used to take hunters hunting.
@@MarekDrives coolio. Didnt know that thanks. How about space for Two carseats for Kids, reckon theres room?
I've seen 2 car seats in the back of a MINI hatch, so I'd say there is room :)
@@MarekDrives ok hope so. We're gonna test drive the GT line tomorrow - still not sure wether to go Niro PHEV og This :)
Depends what you expect/need. I'd take the Niro over any other KIA.
A bit expensive?
Can you or anyone else who owns the car either confirm od deny the fact, that the car is quite noisy when it comes to wheels/road noise? At least that was my first impression when driving this car...
we need in Australia ffs
That shark fin behind the C-pillar is an unecessary detail and it spoils the otherwise smooth flow of the window baseline. It does nothing and increase blind-spot to the rear quarter window.
Where has the apostrophe gone?
So many power options for what will be low volume car and that hideous bulbous rear end from a lot of angles for such a small luggage area.
form over fiction why else would people buy cuv?
@@thatebutuoyguy788 What is cuv?
Can I have the music title?
It's YT stock music. I don't remember the title.
1:14 That (mirror)angle does not flatter you man.
That's not me. It's stock footage.
Nice car, great design but the interior could have been much better.
We don't get this car in the US. Not bad looking.
Sporty this sporty that but under bonnet is hill billy engine
Nice Panamer... oh, sorry Pro Ceed.
Loool those fake exhaust
A very 'meh' kind of car then...
Rental car. I mean good enough for this business.
It's a state, it's ugly, It's a bad copy of Panamera, well safety equip, good video
Fugly looking car fake exhaust outlet?
Four years with kia ceed and still got problems! Don't trust KIA cars! They suck. Distributor in Greece made 3years to change the steering that I had a problem. Now again problem with the steering.
