    Oh my goodness, I practiced my constrictor knot along with you in this video (I knew ZERO about knots before discovering your channel in recent weeks) and got it exactly right! Seems like an infant thing to celebrate but it is a big deal for a person with barely any outdoor adventure experience.

      Wonderful, this honestly makes me so happy!! Just be careful not to tie it around (a body part) as it can be incredibly difficult to get undone when it's snugged up.

      Knot childish at all to celebrate your first steps into an exciting new world.
      I've had a lot of people criticize me in the past for being curious about bushcraft and wilderness survival and stuff because I'm a woman but it's honestly been some of the best skills I've ever decided to pick up since I ended up homeless.
      I think this sort of thing should be looked at the same as cooking, sewing, car maintenance, and budgeting. Essential life skills that all people should know regardless of gender.
      Just make sure you keep practicing it.

    In scouts, we actually do squarelash ladders. We tie every rung individually to the wood, and it takes so long. This certainly saves time

    very nice short! but a little tip regarding safety: the angle of the ladder was much too steep you could tip over backwards

    • @TheBearEssentials
      @TheBearEssentials  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thx a bunch! The angle of the camera is a slight bit deceiving, it’s about a 70 degree angle, about what we use in firefighting. But I should have commented on this telling people to make it less steep! Thank you!!

    For me the health benefits of that tea don't offset the extra health risk climbing that tree but cool improvised ladder, could be useful in some situations.

    • @TheBearEssentials
      @TheBearEssentials  7 месяцев назад +5

      You likely could, but It's very tough to do in a responsible way.
      I like to only take a bit, and preserve the majority of the chaga so I can harvest the area in future years. Also, I enjoy tasks while out camping, as well as demonstrating skills for people to learn on here :)

    Take that downed tree and knock the mushroom down....

    • @TheBearEssentials
      @TheBearEssentials  7 месяцев назад +9

      Hey, ya you could always try that. This one took 5 hard axe blows to sever a chunk.
      The reason I wouldn't recommend it is because you dont want to take all the chaga off, just a bit. That way it can grow back and reproduce, leaving you with a spot to harvest for years to come.. in a sustainable way.
