Really should watch the live version of this song at Hammersmith Odeon in 1975. It’s my favorite live performance ever. Incredible musicianship. Well into a marathon show, the band basically says, “The hell with it, let’s just play jazz music for 30 minutes.”
good call Nathan.i am old enough to have heard Bruces 2 first albums and this is his sound before Born to Run took over the world at that time. I prefer the first 5 albums to Bruces "newer" wok. Bruce is one of the all time Greatest. Keep the channel going. It's great to see new reactions to some of my old favorites
I love this early period of Springsteen where he could be rambling and unfocused, but also ambitious, inspired and visionary. The later blue collar stuff doesn't impress me as much. As well as Bob Dylan, he was very influenced by Van Morrison at this time, who inspired him to write about the area where he grew up. I think David Sancious also had a great input with the arrangements of the songs on this album.
If you like this. Try Incident on 57th Street from the same album and New York Serenade. Both are just as special. And of course Jungleland from the Born to Run album. His epics are the best!!! But you are right, Bruce was just working it out and also heavily influenced by his musicians Danny Sancious (piano) and Vinni Lopez (drums). His later albums were so much more plain "straight" rock but with experimental stuff with he acoustic stuff.
I know we always say, listen to the live version, but you really have to with this one. It can go on for over 20 minutes. Watch this one from '75. ruclips.net/video/RWRlqFywXTY/видео.html
No mention this song was about a cat?😁.Nonetheless as a once upon a time fan of Springsteen I miss the early days of Bruce, when he had a strong dislike any commercialism of his music; holding steadfast of his artistry.
Incident on 57th Street and New York Serenade are absolute masterpieces.
His best album
Pre- Born In The USA is all of his good stuff.
My two favs Aurora and Bruce. Love Aurora ❤

Bittan’s piano solo followed by the squeaky guitar is my favorite 7 minutes or so in music
Like comparing night and day. As with most of his music live always trumps studio.
That whole album full of dabbling tunes. Great stuff !

I think the best version is the one from Passaic Night: ruclips.net/video/6vbb6dV2h9g/видео.html. The ending always gets me
