Video number one is all about stopping the wiggle.
A big mistake that we see a lot of people make when they get their skateboard is to get really excited, and they jump on it in the street and then wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.
They're going all the way down the road trying to generate speed.
Drives me nuts. Look, and skating in the street is great. It's good to learn the fundamental basics about joint sequencing, learning how to turn all that kind of stuff. It's fantastic.
People get really excited and decide, "Okay, how fast can I go?" And they're just like, boom, boom, boom, boom, learning how to wiggle. And then they probably do like three wiggles to every turn.
So, the wiggle is becoming a really well developed tool for their surfing, and the actual turn that they want to train is only going up marginally as opposed to how much more the wiggle is going up.
    Drill
If you have a surf skate, stop the video, go out on your surf skate and film yourself just generating speed. Are you somebody who jumps on the surf skate and is doing this to generate speed on the surf skate?
If somebody is doing that, the chances are they're massively, negatively impacting their surfing.
If you try to do that on a bowl, it doesn't work. Do you know why?
So, in a street, you have to go left right to generate speed. But as you go to the bowl, that flat road starts becoming inclined more like about a 20 to 30 degree angle. So, that left right, if you start bending it, becomes more of an up down. So, that left right needs to transfer into a compression and extension. And when you compress and extend, you'll start going up and down. Now, every time you go up the bowl, you can ride down and generate speed from the bowl. So, when you are surfing, you want to generate speed from the wave by going up and down the wave and use your body as little as possible because in surfing less is more.
The less you do, the more stylish it looks.
But if you've got the wiggle, it doesn't look stylish. You're probably going to surf out of the bowl and into the flats where the wiggle starts to work. And you don't want to surf the flat part of the wave. You're missing all the fun.
I first got surf skates about 15 years ago. Initallly I was really dubious about it. I was kind of going, "How the hell is a surf skate going to improve my surfing?" But I was pleasantly surprised. The reason being, you can start training the fundamentals of surfing. So, to give an example, a lot of people when they first start skating, they get a bit sort of stiff on the boards and they don't know how to turn. So, you almost want to get the person out of the free state and into what I call then flight state and then into flow.
So, if this is someone frozen not knowing how to do, you kind of want to start teaching them how to start moving. And then they'll start getting more confident, they want to start moving more, because they're all excited like, "Look how much speed I can create." They're going to flight state. And then you kind of want them flowing, where they're just pointing the knees and they look really, really nice doing it.
So, the problem with surf skates is this.
A lot of people when they generate the speed on it, they go 1, 2, 3, turn. And although you're training one good turn, it's the three wiggles in between. So, if you think about this, it's one step forward with the good turn, but three steps back with the wiggling. So, how do we get around that? Well, what you want to do is probably a better option.
You just push the board, train the one good turn and try cut out all the wiggling. Look, generating speed is fun in this skateboard. And by all means you can flow, and you can use it as a means of transport. And you need to generate speed to actually go somewhere.
But just be mindful. If you're training surf technique, you want to not train the bad stuff.
You want to train the good stuff.
Otherwise, it'll follow you through into your surfing.

I’m so happy to see you kick mongo because that’s the ONLY way I can kick . I’m regular surfing but I can only kick mongo . I’m in capable of kicking with my back foot so this is inspiring to me !!!

I'm curious about stance. I learned to skate & snowboard before I learned to surf, and I was goofy for both. Then when I learned to surf, I struggled for awhile until I realized that regular stance felt more natural on the surfboard. I don't really skate anymore, but I do snowboard, and I still prefer goofy there. If I decided to pick up a surf skate to help my surfing, would it be better to match my surfing stance, or would it not really matter?

To stop the wiggle: Set trucks harder and go for a truck combination that doesn´t allow for easy tight turning, but draws wider arcs with more force needed.

Longer wheelbase corrects the wigglers too

Did he say if I mean surfskate for transportation only (because generating speed is easier than on freestyle skateboard/cruiser) and not for training surfing technique, wiggling might be suitable?

Skaters leave front foot on the board and push with the back foot. The other way is mongo. What Clayton is doing and most surfers.
