Is Everything in Crypto a Scam?

- Crypto, NFTs, and the metaverse are all words referring to what many say is going to be the next iteration of the internet. But it’s also a world filled with exploitation, scammers and outright theft. Given the recent collapse of the crypto market, can the utopian vision for Web 3.0 survive?

My mom was scammed. She sent $50000 cash. Fortunately she called you right after dropping the package off at UPS and you was able to retrieve it after it left the bill. These people are the lowest of the low, what you and your team is doing is a real blessing. THANK YOU *STRONG WIDGET* !
P.S. my mom's had several scam calls since, but now she enjoys playing with them....hoping she'll get more calls. Maybe she'll join you someday in the People's Center...
Man, this one hit me in the heart. She reminds me of my aunt, who is an incredibly giving person and donates more than anyone I know. Sometimes her kindness is taken of advantage of, and it makes my blood boil. Thank you guys for saving her $980,700. You dramatically changed her life for the better. The scammers don't stop after 1 success. Thank you, thank you, thank you Nicholas and *Strongwidget* team. You guys are heroes to me.
I'm just so happy this dudes is coming back stronger than ever and i can't begin to express how excited i am for the future jobs. i love these guys so Dearly
Thanks a lot for exposing these scumbag scammers who bring disrepute to my country that otherwise has talented and honest citizens. I hope we Americans can offer some form of amends on behalf of these shameless scammers. I wish our government became more serious and put the scammers behind bars. Congratulations, you've outdone yourself. This video is one of the most impressive one-punch recovery moves I've seen in a while: the coding, the clickbait, the references from other channels/people... *Strong widget* just knows an opportunity to recover lost money when he sees one.
Exceptional works, *STRONGWIDGET* -I'm glad you're battling these jerks out there. We must take every precaution to safeguard the elderly and the general public from these disgusting scam artists! You've earned it!! You deserve the Nobel Peace Prize for keeping us safe, brother.
Your content is awesome, and seeing someone who has 10.4k customers, and do something good for people who has less, makes *STRONG WIDGET* just feel so happy in side. I am glad someone like you could do something so kind for people who don't have as much.
This man really hit the ground running and hasn't stopped yet. He gives us more understanding of him without interviews and negative antics he just shows us who he is through the Recovery. True living legend. We salute you.
Incredible recovery. The execution, creativity, and goodness that came from it were inspiring on a number of levels. Cheers *Strong widget* on the internet & looking forward to seeing what you do next!
Bless your heart Adrian notch . Its so sad how the scammers prey on the elderly and the uninformed public. Bless you and all others who fight against these crimes. Its horrible how mainstream media is not doing the right thing by shining light on these things to help the public.

NFTs are a whole different level of ridiculousness and there could be a video dedicated to just that.
Crypto kind of makes sense if you believe our monetary system is broken. NFTs just make zero sense whatsoever.
"Folding Ideas" has a video on RUclips titled "Line Goes Up -- The Problem with NFTs". It's long at 2 hours 20 minutes, but entertaining and goes very, *very* in depth on the problems with NFTs and cryptos.
Ive made life changing money with NFTs typically when a person has no idea what something is they don't comment on it. Its not just a Jpeg its a membership to a community kinda like a Golf club with benefits. You can clone and print a gym membership doesn't mean you can get in.
it really isn’t. The art mostly is, utility backed NFTs will no doubt play a part in the future
@@silasgunn7729 100%... NFTs will change many things and revolutionize the gaming world.
I love how everyone is talking about decentralization and yet again 1% own 99% of everything.
Decentralization is about the control of the network itself. Bitcoin makes central banking obsolete, you know the people that make the money printer go brrr, and then try to gaslight us into believing it's a good thing while cost of living dramatically outpaces wage increases. It's also insanely difficult to successfully attack the network, as the financial costs, and the energy necessary, are absolutely unreal. The simplest way to visualize this, is to imagine a bank that's almost unbreachable, yet also allows usage to literally everyone that wants to use the bank. That's essentially what Bitcoin is.
You're also never gonna have true wealth equality unless you have a centralized authority that brutally punishes those who accumulate more than the average person. Literally impossible for equal distribution of wealth and freedom to coexist.
@@user-tu2dr3ny6x So you're BUTTCORN maximalist? You think that helps the crypto ecosystem? 🙄😬
@@pdcdesign9632 What ecosystem? The overwhelming majority of crypto is ponzi schemes, and central banking replicas. There's some good tech of course, but it's always attached to a blockchain with centralization, a group of founders that get free coins because they created the blockchain, and the economics of most crypto is much closer to fiat than Bitcoin. Utterly pointless trash. The decentralization of Bitcoin is where the real long term value is, most cryptocurrencies aren't even attempting decentralization because that means the founders lose control of the blockchain. The few that do attempt it are entirely pointless when Bitcoin already exists. If they have a problem with transaction speed and fee's, well that's what layer 2 of the BTC network is for.
Bitcoin does not hurt the "ecosystem" of crypto, crypto is a nuisance to Bitcoins overwhelming superiority.
@@user-tu2dr3ny6x i can't wait for you to lose all your money
@@disliked1390 Well that's because you're a bad person. I don't want you to lose all your wealth in Fiat.
Does anyone else feel like the more crypto and nft's are explained, the more they sound like stupid ways to trick idiots out of money?
Feel? No, it's a fact.
Search RUclips for Line Goes Up if you want a more nuanced take on crypto and NFTs
BTC is decentralized and the first of it's kind. That's the "wheel" and these other cryptos are trying to recreate it or build upon it so be careful of those. Bitcoin in of itself is elegant and perfect. Never downtime, stronger by the minute, nobody controls it, helps the poor in commerce, can't be hacked. The mystery behind the creator(s) is intriguing too! Hold your own keys to BTC, keep them in a fireproof gun safe or deposit box, don't chase the fads....but be aware. Less than 21 Mill so stack Sats and chill.
@@alphapred my main issue with crypto is that it doesn't solve the problems with the global banking industry that impact most people and makes a lot of them worse - hyperdeflation or 'going to the moon' seems good unless you're somebody who needs to do things with their money like pay rent or buy gas or food, then you end up getting owned. I've always been anti gambling too however, so I guess I'm biased
Also which Bitcoin is perfect? Bitcoin classic or Bitcoin cash or Bitcoin SV?
@@DemonRaz117 Most people don't save or know how fractional reserve banking works. If they did they certainly wouldn't use it for food or rent. Bitcoin game theory is going to take over 100 years to play out. Countries aren't buying Shibu it's BTC, although there will be a "crypto penny" I believe people wouldn't mind spending on everyday things.
Now...I've made no mention of any other coin. Almost every other coin is a clone of Bitcoins' Blockchain from Forks. Stick with the winner because nothing significantly moves unless "Bitcoin" does. I too am not a gambler and a reluctant consumer.
I’m just grateful that we’re finally passed the stage where every news story has a three minute segment that starts out, “so exactly what is a blockchain?“

They say crypto isn’t centralised………Ok……….So why is it controlled and run via a “centralised” location by the NSA out of Bethesda, Marylands……..and who owns and controls the master node………to all things crypto………you guessed it……..the NSA………every crypto build up and crash is by design……to siphon as much currencies as possible from the systems and more so from the people………So the crypto followers wanted and dreamed of parallel currencies to escape the former “old” system……..well congratulations………you got out of “Their” old system and right back into their new one……..and with the only master node owned and controlled……..And once at its peak they can push a button and drain the bathtub and with you in it………and if Crypto can’t be for everyone……….then it shouldn’t be for anyone……….and a new and more accessible platform should now be looked at and seriously considered……….not just for insiders or start ups to these platforms that have exclusive access years before anyone else does………and certainly not for anyone that is already “wealthy” who also get advantaged access also………
The mind is powerful and can create new worlds of creativity.. like a metaverse for supply chains where probability and modeling can be seen in a better way..
Nah that’s too hard and would involve too much collective effort to plan and build for the future and compromise and learn to better understand each other and different points of view.
That would take actual sacrifice. And if some of the people are actually sacrificing, then there's guaranteed to be other people reaping benefits from that sacrifice. Watch Mel Gibson's Apocalypto; while overly dramatized it displays exactly how the system of human civilization operates.

If what gets you excited is "I'm early"... its probably a ponzi scheme.
The problem with the "metaverse" is that its completely and utterly pointless as long as its sole purpose is to make money - interesting things are almost always labors of love, not of profit. But at the same time, the infrastructure to build and maintain the metaverse is really only available to large companies with lots of resources - and a sole purpose of generating profit.
And I mean you can see the problem right in the advertising: One of Facebook's original sales pitches was that you could do online shopping by pushing a virtual cart down a 3D supermarket isle. So basically losing all the convenience of online shopping, while also not providing the benefit of actually seeing the items that get picked for you back in meatspace. The absolute worst of both worlds. That's the best they could come up with for a reason to use this thing.
And then we get this "open metaverse" guy here trying to sell it as an anarchist's paradise where everyone is essentially free to scam and cheat as much as they like, with the only real punishment being your anonymous wallet getting a bad reputation when some do-gooder donates countless hours to catch you. But don't worry - "most people" are good, honest folk!
Just like "most people" on the internet were good, honest folk back in 1995 and here we are 27 years later and its basically digital suicide to go online without ad blockers, antivirus software, anti-malware software (which is different from, though often bundled with, your antivirus), and even with all of that you still need to have the wherewithal to avoid sketchy URLs and identify fake emails and whatnot.
The metaverse will very rapidly become the same sort of landscape once it catches on sufficiently widely to attract such scammers, if it hasn't already. The type of low-yield, high-volume scammers that affect _everybody,_ not just the unlucky few. And we can't even get rid of the scourge in the real world. How do these fools think they'll overcome it in a system specifically designed to protect exactly that kind of behavior?
Totally agree. The public for-profit companies and greed will destroy the utopian idea of the metaverse.
And Mark Zuckerberg has raped the term.

At least you can buy drugs with BTC.
I am a bit confused. They are talking about the "metaverse" as if it is some real physical thing and they are giving value to it. EVERYTHING IS DIGITAL these days
Half of y’all pay for iTunes ( music you’ll never own)
Guns & Maps on Call of Duty ( you’ll never own )
See how that works people are hypocrites without even realizing
They honestly believe the future of the 'metaverse' is for it to become so entertaining that most people want to spend significant portions of their life in it, and enjoy their time in the metaverse more than they enjoy their time in the real world and therefore value items and land inside the metaverse as much if not more than the same things in the real world. The problem is making a metaverse that the majority of people all want to spend time in together - I somehow do not see anybody or any company being able to make a metaverse that not only appeals to my kids, but to me, my parents and my grandparents and was entertaining enough that we all spent the majority of the time we could inside of it.
People have been interacting in imaginary worlds for more than 15 years. These worlds are called games. "Game" is, given technological capabilities, a misnomer. Online games are interactive worlds. The metaverse is an online game with all the fun removed. Just simple avatars, crude interiors, and badly drawn landscapes. Belief in metaverse as a thing = stupid.

Your summary of the metaverse being "a zoom session with video games"
is a very dangerous way of thinking about it because it promotes the idea that this thing is harmless.
You need to understand that you are not the target audience. Nobody who would use the metaverse actually is.
The real target audience is multibillion dollar companies.

I generally like Vice reporting but somehow this piece conflates three separate topics, crypto, “the metaverse” and VR. Please keep VR out of the crypto & metaverse cluster snuggles. VR is a foundational technology like displays, keyboards and mice. Crypto/metaverse projects might use VR but aren’t directly related. Also, the Quest 1 used in this piece is very outdated and doesn’t represent the current market for VR. Try a PC based VR, it’s 🔥
I didn’t get the feeling they conflated VR as the metaverse. The reason you may think that is because the metaverse isn’t anything but hype and rebranding of VR and gaming. There’s literally nothing new, I’ve been inside “metaverses” since I played Disney’s “Virtual Magic Kingdom” in the 2000s.

For about 95% of the crypto space, yeah that is accurate. Most networks are limited by scalability issues which causes interoperability issues that compounds into an inferior overall experience for developers and users.
It's not really intended as a shill but as the best possible example, Internet Computer (ICP) and the team behind it @ Dfinity have innovated solutions that fix all of the crippling blockchain limitations, so much so that it can even host entire web-pages at web speed on the blockchain, not through AWS or any other cloud service and can do it at a price point that competes with web 2 + extra benefits. The technology also allows them to directly integrate with other blockchains without the need of a 3rd party bridging service, essentially it will become the central computer driving every other blockchains computation needs. Everyone will know about this in about 2-4 years when it becomes the overwhelming dominant technology in the space and starts to legitimately threaten web 2.
@@snakezula It does not fix the biggest issue, there is no real need or use for blockchains. All this time and insane amounts of money & resources, and crypto has not produced anything.
All crypto has done, is shown why capitalism is a total failure. As everything is done for the sake of profit, nothing else matters. I find it really interesting, how the world and people are deeply divided on this topic between tech and virtual existence and people who dont care and keep a grip with reality and or are as always not interested in advancement in technology.
For someone that had acces to computers and internet basically my entire life, my interest is non existent in this trend of digital worlds (especially those that revolve around money, as if real life isnt already that) and while long distance chats on social medias with close ones and friends are a good thing, i cannot see myself value more fictional experiences or things over real life, what do you have left once the powers goes off, once you turn off the computer?

When the techbro discusses his metaverse crap, one would know that the idea of open and user-owned content runs counterpoint to the very fact that these are lines of code and art assets running on a game engine's server. No fancy blockchained database entry saying that its yours is going to change that fundamental fact.
The very nature of the grifts here run on the assumptions that nobody question the basic premises of the technology being deployed, and instead it all relies on getting lost on the sea of buzzwords such as "decentralized, user-owned, value-based, etc"
Also the guy finding an alternate use for discarded natural gas is not really solving any problem. That's all this is. These things weren't created because we spent a great deal of time contemplating their needs and importance. It's all just gimmicks to sell. We went too far when we began forcing people to use these gimmicks in their every day lives, through forceful updates, closing off services, etc. - basically, engineering obsolescence. They can do this because it's such a small group of people that ultimately decide the course of how technology moves. It is not democratized or open.
I feel that one of the best times for the digital age was around 1998-2002. This was a great period where we loved our games and computers, but weren't consumed by them. They were there to help us and entertain us, not take over our lives and make our lives revolve around them. You could still touch grass, you still had enormous curiosity about the digital world and computers, communications and friendships were still strong and real. Quite simply, it was a point where we had a wonderful balance between being human and living with computers. Those days have vanished rapidly, as if decayed by an untreatable and aggressive cancer.

this guy is ALMOST on the verge of having a breakthrough... nobody wants to have all the value absorbed by massive companies... but the answer is NOT by introducing scarcity and capitalism into a virtual world where resources are unlimited. The metaverse should be a way to emancipate us from the shackles of capitalism altogether, not to divert funds from one corporation to any number of individuals. Our goal as a society should be to achieve a world of post-scarcity, not to introduce scarcity where there is none.
capitalists do what capitalists does. mf'ers.
@Solendore humanity should not last if we can not support all of humanity. we are seeing it coming to a boiling point again and i don’t think telling people “yeah a lot of you are gonna suffer and die but think of how much we are progressing as society :)” is going to do much
We are already in a post scarcity world, but scarcity is maintained artificially. Since 2012, maybe 2014, we've been producing enough food as a species to feed everyone on earth, but because corporations are in control of the food supply they throw away any food that isn't bringing them a profit and have no interest in non-profit food supply.
Same for housing, at least in the US. We have more empty properties than we do homeless people, but because banks and private equity buy property as investments those properties sit empty, and the homeless remain homeless.
Water is perhaps the exception, and as a society we don't protect our fresh water sources nearly enough.
@@Code_Dee TL;DR - we are all fucked
@@Spearca Ok then when we no longer have the means to keep producing the way we have been, then we will return to scarcity but until then, we are post-scarcity.
It's indisputable that for the last ten years we could have fed everyone on Earth if not for the corporate profit-driven model of food distribution. Whether or not that will remain the case is beside the point, and if we return to actual scarcity as opposed to artificial, then all the more reason to take food distribution out of the purview of corporations considering how wasteful the current model is.

The real deal is that all folks must be educated in crypto, even investors, so they can protect themselves against scams and bad decisions.
Aged well
The IDEA of crypto currency is amazing. But the pitch is that it should have utility, low network fees, be quick, and be easy to use. There is no crypto to date that accomplishes this. They're all slow, expensive, difficult to use, and aren't accepted most places as actual currency. Bitcoin is the closest, but it's still a ways off. Cyrptocurrency is a misnomer -- you can't actually use any of them as currency -- so they're mostly used as speculative trading assets, and whenever you have speculative trading assets you'll have people with a lot of wealth manipulating the markets and extracting wealth from the people below them in the pyramid.
Bruh... Bitcoin transaction speeds are fucking awful, 1 hour or something, how is Bitcoin the closest network fees, quick and easy to use?
There are coins that tackle this issue, but ofc, with some tradeoffs. Monero has lower fees compared to Bitcoin, and transactions take 2 minutes or so, MobileCoin also has lower fees (0.004%) and the transaction is done in under 5 seconds, plus it has the advantage of requiring really low storage, which means it can be used through mobile phones.
Have you ever heard of monero?
Gotta agree with Nick K here, it's a great technology which is hard to scale and is being largely misused. That being said, it's undeniably the way of the future. At least in my mind...
You have no idea what cryptocurrencies already exist that have low network fees, are very quick and are not harmful to the environment.
