Great video orchid hubby♡ love your collection and cant wait to see it in person ♡♡♡♡♡ thanks for all the great culture info its amazing to hear orchid talk. All day i get nothing and RUclips has been such a great out lit and find people like you to share in the joy of orchids with ♡ Love you wade ♡
Wade's Orchids for sure ! Im thinking of bringing chris some ribs lol ♡ i dont want to be a burden so ill bring some dinner supplies since i dont eat meat ♡
KrookedOrchids It's up to you two if you want to bring something. I was a professional cook for 10 years so I can make something too... or we can go out to eat. There are inexpensive places nearby. I do like a Yuengling Lager from time to time (any of you who do not know what Yuengling is... well, I just feel sorry for ya).
The Cattleya Hybrida is very pretty. I wouldn't mind having that one in my collection. I like the Cattleya intermedia variety that you have in this video also. Great video thanks!
C. Hybrida is very difficult to find and I have several people who want a division of mine already. The C. intermedia 'Rio' is a bit easier to acquire. Someone cloned it probably about 6 or 7 years ago. There are many varieties of C. intermedia and several people have dedicated a greenhouse to varieties of the species. Thanks for the kind comments!
Hi Wade's Orchid thankyou for the useful information about. Katt. Your orchids look so beautiful!!And regarding the aeration I Iost most of my Phal. due to the stagnant air at my place in the high dessert .And about 3 months ago a set up a fan for the summer its seems better for the ones that I have left.
America Anuchiracheeva I am sorry to hear that. Some lessons are costly. At least you were able to determine what happened and find something to help prevent it. We all lose plants from time to time.
Orchidaholic That's Great! Orchids are not terribly difficult once you realise that they are not like house plants. Try to provide humidity by a humidifier or humidity trays in the winter. It helps a lot.
Thanks for the tips! :) Actually the problem was related to a bad air circulation I believe... the new growths usually got black rot causing the plant to become really debilitated. But I changed tipe of pot, the substrate and during the winter now I have a fan all for them.
Wade just enjoyed this video. Cattleya are my favorite orchids....your information is always so useful. Thank you so much.. I just love that "Pot. Sweet Amy you showed, you must add it to my list of purchase.... :-)
ruth sanchez Hi Ruth! Thank you for your comments. I only have that one plant of Sweet Amy. I wish it would have held up a little better for the video but is was still beautiful. That is the only plant of Sweet Amy I have ever seen. It will be a while before I divide it but I can put your name on it for a division.
I am new to orchids and this video answered many of the "alliance" questions that I had. I would like to ask what is meant when people talk of "species" orchids.
Thanks, Wade, for another amazing video. I am still trying to see how to deal with two seasons (rainy and dry one) when fertilizing or watering my orchids especially my cattleya, brassavola, and potinara (in sheath at the moment) - I live in a flat and there's this balcony I believe facing south, but it seems to be the sun they get is OK for them - including my Neofinetia (just finished flowering). There is so much to learn but above all I want to enjoy caring for them - I love everything about orchids: roots, leaves; not only their flowers or whether they are fragrant or not...An orchid amateur from Venezuela
***** Yes, Miguel, you are definitely hooked :). Try to pay attention to their growing patterns. Most species have a period after their growth is mature when they rest. This calls for cooler (if possible) and a bit drier conditions for a while. This does not always hold true with hybrids but some do behave the same way. Good luck with it. Maybe you can find someone local who can help you along with it. I does sound like you're doing pretty well though.
Wade!!! I Ilove the video! I would love another one of the Blc. Rustic spots when it starts changing color. :-)! I have been looking around for one myself for a while now and can't find on for sale.
ow my how beautiful is that pink Cattleya, I'd kill to have one of those :D and the image with them all is bloom is to die for, I really am loving Catts, don't mind having quite a lot of them really :D and let's not forget that fragrance! PS: how do you feel about the kiwi bark? what are the benefits?
MissOrchidGirl Hi Dani!!!! I saw you were trying out Kiwi bark. It is expensive but there is no better media that I know of. Here are the benefits that I see: 1. Long life - 3 to 4 years for medium bark. 2. The roots love it. I see incredible root growth almost as soon as a plant is put in it. 3. It attracts beneficial bacteria. This isn't something that I can verify from observation but studies have proven this to be true. 4. I am seeing more frequent growth and blooms on types that flower more than once a year. I am also noticing very frequent branching of leads. 5. Because it does not tend to break down it does not retain excess water and helps to prevent rot. I am pleased that it is available to you.
Wade's Orchids uuuu that sounds great :D I noticed it really doesn't soak up with water as much, I might consider investing in this more if things go well, for some of my treasured orchids at least :) thanks for the info!
Man, love your Rustic Spots! If you make the Rustic Spots x Hybrida, I will be first on the wait list! I would even buy an extra flask if you end up with some! I love everything about these two parents, they have all the characteristics of stuff I like :D
***** I'll be happy to get a flask or compot to you if it's successful. I did the dirty deed with a toothpick a few days ago and we'll see if it takes. Everything about that combination is great. From what I have seen, the C. Hybrida is of very good quality and I love the Rustic Spots. I'll let you know how it's progressing.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, Wade! I appreciate it a lot. It's always great to hear how experienced growers cultivate their orchids. You picked up a very nice selection to show us in the video. In the beginning I thought the first one was cattleya loddigesii, before you told it was a hybrid. It took a lot after her pollen parent, and of course the seed parent too. As you said, the best of both parents. It's really beautiful, but a little big. Is it taller than c. loddigesii? How is the fragrance? I love the leaves on that sophronitis cernua. Such a beautiful little cattleya. That one is on my wishlist. Thanks for this video!
Orchids & a Dutchy Yes, it's taller than loddigesii. I am sure it will be over 2' tall (60cm) when it has a couple more growths behind it. It is very nicely fragrant - mostly in the daytime. Sophronitis cernua is much easier to grow than coccinea. I treat it like any other mounted orchid and water it almost every day unless it's going to be very dreary. I have some moss to hold moisture which it appreciates when growing. I keep it a bit more dry when it's at rest in winter. You can see it in bloom in the photos in my facebook page (Wades Orchids).
Wade's Orchids Thank you, Wade! I think when I find a sophronitis cernua I could try growing it on a clay cylinder, I mean that kind that we fill with water, and it keeps moist and cool. I don't have a greenhouse, so a clay cylinder would help to provide it with extra humidity. I was looking at the Kool-logs that Brittany (Holy City Orchids) uses, but they don't sell it to Europe. But now I found out where to get something similar around here. :) I saw the picture of your sophronitis cernua in your facebook page. Very pretty and delicate blooms. I love the color.
Orchids & a Dutchy I just caught a video of yours. I was very impressed!!! You have a great collection. Yes, I think I saw Dani using what you are thinking of and it looks very good.
Wade's Orchids Thank you, Wade! I appreciate a lot getting a compliment from an experienced grower. My collection is quite modest, I have at the moment only 38 orchids, but I chose them carefully. I planned them so that they are suitable for my environment, and there's always something blooming in every season of the year. The only one that refuses to bloom is that dendrobium species, den nobile var. sanderianum. It needs a longer cold winter rest, but in the winter it would freeze at the balcony, and indoors where my orchids spend their winter, my day temperature is around 20C/68F, far too much for it. So it grows and looks nice, but no flowers. Maybe if the next winter is mild and the temperature at the balcony doesn't drop too much for a few months in the beginning of the winter, it will agrees to bloom. ;)
Hi Mr. Wade, just wondering if you still have the cattleya that has pink flowers..is it possible for me to purchase a division of it..thanks in advance, Irene..happy orchid growing
rmcandlelight Hi. Btw, thanks for suggesting this video to me :). I use misting to help cool the plants when it's hot and to increase humidity. In both cases I usually spray the entire plant just until they are a bit wet. If they are dripping you are a little heavy on the mister.
Paulette Lodde Hello Paulette. I may at some point in the future but it will be about 3 years. It is still recovering from the treatment before I purchased it. I was surprised that it bloomed at all!
It's a beautiful cattleya and all the orchid you have
Thank you for the video it's nice

Wonderful plants and great video!
Cattleyas are my favourite so far... after many years of tries (and many deaths) finally I'm having some results! :)

Orchids & a Dutchy I read somewhere about putting them in the refrigerator at night in the winter to promote blooming. ..might be worth researching?
When you fertilize once a week are you using a diluted mix Wade ?
Hello. Thanks for this informative video. I have a cattaleya orchid with brown, crusty look on some of the leaves. Do you know what that is?
It's hard to tell without seeing it. If you like you can email me (wadeh1954@gmail.com) with a photo.
I got a Cattleyas don’t bloom yet
Hi Mr. Wade, just wondering if you still have the cattleya that has pink flowers..is it possible for me to purchase a division of it..thanks in advance, Irene..happy orchid growing
Hi Irene. I only have one plant of C. Hybrida and there are several people who would like a piece of it.
Thank you so much for all the info. When you say mist them does that mean to spray the leaves? If which part of the plant?
