    Just bought my first shavette and everything I need for good grooming at the actual brick and mortar location! Super excited to learn! No more Gillette!

    I use a shavette. It takes a lot of time to learn. My only difficulty is that I have to wear glasses to see clearly. The glasses and my hand get in the way at times.

    A really great tutorial Jeremy 😌👏
    As you said the secret to a comfortable shave with a shavette is all in that light touch. If people have the control and can get the razor to glide they should be fine, and I’m sure that’s why a fluent style can work well.

      Thank you Dave. I learned a lot from you over the years. I’m sure I missed somethings here. But in my opinion, you are still the master.

    Awesome video, I've been struggling with how to hold it when going for a certain angle on a certain side and this video demonstrates many, if not all, approaches.

    I've seen the opposite, shavette blades tend to be less sharp or atleast more harsh than a properly honed straight. I hone many straight razors every week (I make my own and restore old ones) and I hone up to 12k on naniwa stones then I finish on lapping films up to .5 micron . At this point it will cut a hanging hair with just a touch, mass production blades generally won't cut a hanging hair. I do sometimes use a small shavette to get in tight spaces like under my nose but I will usually run it over the lapping films a bit and strop before use to smooth out the harshness

    What did you spray prior to the shaving cream?

  • @thoranevans4832

    What do you have to do to maintain it? I've read online that you have to oil some straight razors but I'm not sure if you have to oil a shavette, and I'm not sure what to search for even if I needed to. I've only been cleaning and making sure the shavette is completely dry inside and out, much like my safety razor.

      I take the blade out after each use, rinse the portion where the blade sites and let everything dry over night. I also make sure the scales are dry and the hinge pin area is dry as well.

    What do you think of IBC vs Feather AC DX with wooden handle?

  • @dan_mer
    @dan_mer Год назад +2

    Had my first shave ever with a shavette today and everything went great until I hit the mirror with the handle. From what I hear, this is quite common. Got a nasty cut on my lip. My hand really gets in the way sometimes. Shaving against the grain is easy.

    Nice video! Been using a shavette for 2 years. Still not getting the BBS shave that I get with a safety razor. My technique is good. I use sharp blades and still don’t get the close shave I want.

      Wait, so a safety razor provides a cleaner shave than a shavette?

    • @spsp024
      @spsp024 Год назад

      @@mehranbillah7415i think people dare to go a bit further with a safety razor, maybe the angle isnt good, too steep and the blade will grab your skin, and if you dont have enough of an angle the shave wont be clean, which is what im suspecting. Also pull the skin upwards, the hairs tend te grow downwards and if you pull the skin upwards and shave downwards you should feel it cutting way more and with more ease

    Good tutorial! I just started using a shavette style razor and I managed to cut myself multiple times on my weak side. Guess I`ll have to get used to it. May I ask if you use a straight razor for your head as well?

    • @TheTravelingShaver
      @TheTravelingShaver 2 года назад +2

      I have used a straight razor and a shavette on my head. It is something I DO NOT recommend people do until they are extremely comfortable shaving with shavette using both hands.

    Wish me luck i ordered the ibc and been using a kai captain clone de shavette and well its not easy at all as it looks. I have no idea how to shave my neck across or against the grain and my chin has too many curves

    • @TheTravelingShaver
      @TheTravelingShaver 2 года назад +3

      Good luck! The IBC is a wonderful razor, one of my favorites. Using a shavette does take some practice. When I first started using them there was plenty of stubble left over after the shave. There is absolutely no shame is doing a clean up with a different style of razor. The neck area can be a little tricky depending on how your hair grows. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

    • @TheTravelingShaver
      @TheTravelingShaver 2 года назад

      Yes. There are also saloon blades that are pre-cut in half. I tend to prefer a blade snapped in half in shavettes that take a half de blade.
