That Venenum album was kind a big deal when it came out 7 years ago, but yeah, you're right, it seems a bit unfairly forgotten these days. I think it's just the breakneck pace of keeping up with extreme metal on an international level that albums come out, make a splash, then we move on to the next. That's one of the downsides about being in this new golden age of independent releases where we get masterpiece albums being released like clockwork, if there can be a downside about such a thing hah

Death’s Leprosy (‘88) came out eight years prior to me being born, and that is one of my favourite albums ever. By your logic I should prefer Gruesome’s ‘Savage Land’ right? Tarring me with a brush because of my age seems a little lazy to me. It’s perfectly okay to prefer a band that is influenced by another that came before it. It has nothing to do with my age.

I try hard not to make sweeping statements that I’ll regret later. I’ve tried a tonne with Voivod and it’s just not clicked with me up to this point. Maybe in the future, however I just prefer Vektor’s sound, but I can absolutely acknowledge that they were heavily influenced by Voivod. But since they never addressed the matter properly and directly (in my opinion) i'm kind of hesitant to be fan of them. so now you see my pain :) it's BMs right to be provocative, blaspheming etc. but some parts I just cannot agree with, even if it is as you said "loose association". you have to pick your friends wisely, as it was clearly seen when Neige from Alcest had to apologise for his experience from young years

Most people seem to have very low standards.
Mgla’s riffs aren’t dissonant, in fact they are very harmonious, which is one of the factors that contributes to them being so bad.

    • @Altars_of_Mattness

Harmony isn’t the same as melody. You can use harmony to create dissonance as the notes are simply layered atop one another. It’s the sequence in which they’re played that decides whether or not they’re dissonant.
