When I was a little girl, I'm talking 4-5 years old, I would spend HOURS playing this game at the local bowling alley. I remember an older boy and me playing all the way through it once. Looking back on it now, he had to have been incredibly patient with me, because I remember that I kept dying and having to go beg my mom for quarters lol. TMNT was my favorite cartoon back then. Almost 24 years later, my own daughter loves the old cartoon and knows all the characters. It just makes me kind of sad that unless I want to fork over 1200 bucks, she'll never know the frustration of yanking a joystick around and mashing buttons with her whole hand.
Randi DeBey you could get a arcade joytick for your 360 or ps3 an let her go at it. Not sure if its still for sale online. Another option is get a gamecube or ps2 an buy a copy of tmnt melee 2 an unlock the arcade version.
So many old memories of this game at the bowling alley and the roller rink. I used to play The Simpsons, Pit Fighter, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat I, II, Final Fight, Ridge Racer and all of those memorable pinball games. I miss those old days, which is why I'm starting to build up an arcade/pinball room in my man cave along with neon lights, a Coors Light theme bar, and vending machines.
Resident Evil Umbrella I go to the arcade in New Jersey that has all old games from the 70s-90s. It's awesome! It's called Yestercades. They have Ninja Turtles there along with Simpsons, Lethal Enforcers, WrestleFest, Die Hard, Revolution X, Terminator 2, Mario Bros, Bubble Bobble, Tetris, Burgertime, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Paperboy, Arkanoid, Space Invaders, Pinball machines, air hockey, pool table. It's pretty cool
Me too brother. I remember playing this every time I went to the arcade when it came out. I got the nes version for my birthday the year it was released too but I have always had a fondness for the arcade version.
Seeing clips of this Classic Ninja Turtles Arcade Game, takes me way back to the year 1991 when I was 7 or 8 years old at Kelly Cafeteria on Clark Air Force Base in Philippines. Then after we first moved to Dover, Delaware seen this Arcade Game in the Blue Hen Mall and Dover Mall!!!! I remember going to the Arcade Joint in the Blue Hen Mall first before discovering the other Local Arcade, JollyTime, in the Dover Mall shortly after!!!!! Plus the Blue Hen Mall was much closer to where we used to live at Dover Air Trailer Park near Dover Air Force Base!!!! Great Old Fond Memories of TMNT Arcade Game from way back in 1991!!!! Wow Almost 30 years later, Damn I feel Old, I'm 38 years young now!!!! 😅
Sony Gamer I noticed that the best game players were normally poor, because they made sure that their 25 cents lasted longer. rich kids didn't value money so much, so they didn't care about game overs
OMG I am crying now. Miss the old retro gaming days when it was about grouping up with your friends or making friends at the arcade. Now it's all about graphics and online play.
Man... this takes me back. Our local McDonald's had this game and I remember begging my mom for quarters after id finish my chicken nugget happy meal. Man those were some good times.
That was one HELL OF A GAME. The music, the graphics, the level design, the variety of enemies. An absolute classic ❤️ Those were the days when game designers really cared.
+michael moss Nope, but you don't see this type of game period anymore, in cabinet form. It's either a shooter, driving or some damn app game that they made into a cabinet. I remember the neo-geo cabinets blew my mind at the laundromat.. 5 games in one arcade!? Boys was dumbfounded
Still the shit 26 years later! They have this at Dorky's in Tacoma, WA (along with a ton of other arcade machines). Spent a couple bucks for nostalgia's sake.
M.A.G.A! MAKE ARCADES GREAT AGAIN. lol. Remember first seeing this as an 8 year old in 1989. Man, it blew my socks off! It has to be my favourite arcade game of all time. As soon as I walked into the arcade I would head straight over to this. Then it would be onto double dragon, golden axe, robocop, Michael Jackson's moonwalker, wrestle fest, and aliens. They was the arcade machines that I'd play most around 89 n 90. Awesome time to be a kid.
Never forget sneaking out EVERY weekend for a very long time at 1am with a bag of quarters and my best friend, to play this game until we ran out of quarters. Best arcade game ever!!
In Chicago, there’s a well known restaurant “Home Run Inn Pizza.” It was always a treat to go not because of the food but to play the arcade version of this game. It just felt more authentic than on nes/snes. Great memories 👍🏾☺️
Me and my brother and 2 cousins used to spend countless hours playing this game when we were kids. When we went to an amusement park that is close by we wouldn't even ride anything. Just spend all day in the arcade playing games like this, Simpsons and X-Men. Good old days
basically the 80's were IT, but we did get some awesome titles in the 90's, before it all turned into SF2 and MK clones (after '92). then consoles and PC duplicated then utterly surpassed arcades in the early 00's. still, these great titles live on
Just back from Indonesia where you can play "modern" 200X sega games in an arcade for a quarter (instead of multiple dollar in the USA/Europe). It was fun to do this again. "House of the Dead 4" is different on a 80" screen with light guns in an Arcade.
I like how Splinter isn't even concerned that his turtle sons jumped off the roof of a building and fell, like, fifty stories down onto the roof of another building. 🐀🐢🐢🐢🐢
I couldn't agree more. Not only that, the awesome music isn't even there. Seriously, what in the heck was Konami thinking? Were they just trying to purposely tick off TMNT fans of the classic series? How hard would it have been to put the music and voice clips on a gamecube disc?
Looking back at this, Michael Bay actually hit a few nails on the head as far as getting the look and feel right. Just wish he'd focus more on the actual TMNT and the other main characters and not on Fox
These arcade games were actually amazing! Good graphics and great sound! Anyone know if each game from a company had standard spec hardware they used between games?
Man, why they never put this game and Turtles in Time in a packaged set on the new consoles is beyond me. Those two are such awesome multiplayer beat em ups. Better yet, why didn't they ever rerelease this game onto the SNES? The NES port of it just didn't do this game justice.
they did it was on xbox live about 7 years ago then the license ran out and never came back. Turtles in Time was on the snes and it was a little different but the gameplay was the same.
Ricky Ray I agree that was a horrible crime of a remake, yuk! I hope someone gets the license soon to release again this awesome game on the new consoles.
this was the best TMNT Game EVER you could play 4 players! and the play through was so nostalgic because all the boss were there. It was as accurate as the tv series.
Oh the nostalgia!!! my fav characters were always Mike and Leonardo. Classic stuff, so many coins spent there ☺ good ol times. So many times my oldest cousin would rant on us for taking the pizza (because he used Raphael).
Ha ha, yeah, and I guess it was a good idea for the bad guys to stay in the building and fight, too. Fun game to play, though, esp. at home on the NES version
Still are fun....maybe we're getting older....looking forward to the new Zelda game ...Breath of the Wild...March '17....Openworld...3 times bigger than the biggest one now....Skyrim or Witcher 3 or something else
Donatello was the easiest because he had the reach with the bow and used him when I was serious. Leonardo was good too with the sword. Michelangelo was the coolest because of the fast nunchucks. Raphael... well you only used him if you wanted a challenge. 😄
Amazing to think this game is almost 30 years old lol. I use to play it when i was 6 years old in my local arcade.....local arcade....those are a thing of the past lol

Watched the cartoon religiously as a kid and this was all the kids were talking about in elementary school. I lost my @#$% when I finally saw it at the arcade with a crowd of people around the cabinet with 4 people playing.
I dumped SO many quarters in this machine as a kid. I remember finally getting the NES port and it was great but not the same. I still blew my allowance on the arcade every chance I got.
The guy who sold me the 4-player original arcade also wanted to sell the TMNT pinball game but I couldn't afford it at the time. If I remember correctly, it costed quite a bit more than the arcade game. He was trying to get like 2,000 bucks for it, and I didn't want it that bad. I've never been a huge pinball fan, but they're pretty fun sometimes. Of course, if I were to own a pinball machine,it would be the TMNT one.
it still feels weird to me to play this game with anything less than 3 players. back in the day it was always a group deciding to play together, or walking up to a machine that was already full. now thanks to netplay options, it can be this way again
Oh dear jesus the memories! Played this obsessively on a ferry to Jersey, couldn't wait for the holiday to end to get back on it for the return, only to find that it was a different one with Altered Beast instead - gutted.
When I was a little girl, I'm talking 4-5 years old, I would spend HOURS playing this game at the local bowling alley. I remember an older boy and me playing all the way through it once. Randi DeBey Do you play this game with your family as team?
Randi DeBey get a Super Nintendo and get turtles in time. One of my favorite games of all time.
Randi DeBey super cool and super realistic post
Randi DeBey just get an NES yeah graphics arent as good and you cant do four players (only two) but you get an extra level or two and still fun.
Best. Game. Ever.
I went back in time 25 years watching this!
Seeing this in the arcade for the first time was mind-blowing... and so were the lines to play it.
Oh my beautiful memories 1980 - 1990 , i love that time
So many old memories of this game at the bowling alley and the roller rink.
I won The Simpsons a good number of times, and it remains the only arcade game I've beaten.
catluvr2, same here. I remember a huge group of kids gathered around watching while I beat The Simpson’s....good times
@@ENTERTAINMENT35 sounds good would love to go there.
This is my fav arcade game of all time!
I completely zoned out while watching this, it was like I was 5 again for a short time :) then back to reality :(
5 too..1984
Me too brother. I remember playing this every time I went to the arcade when it came out. I got the nes version for my birthday the year it was released too but I have always had a fondness for the arcade version.

Wow Almost 30 years later, Damn I feel Old, I'm 38 years young now!!!! 😅
Brings back so much memories as a kid
i spent hours at chuck -e- cheese playing this when I was stil 8-9 years old. late 80's/early 90's is where it's at
Same... beat it one time with three other guys, 1993. I alone pumped $30 into the machine easy on that one play.
So much fun playing this game when I was younger, spent a lot $ on this game, this game was the best when you had 3 others joining you in co-op.
many quarters were lost to this game
ProtossX I had 2 left
Pray for those quarters!
Sony Gamer I noticed that the best game players were normally poor, because they made sure that their 25 cents lasted longer. rich kids didn't value money so much, so they didn't care about game overs
resireg, pretty ignorant comment to suggest all rich kids do not value money as much as poor people.
Was Anime Really A Mistake? You Decide but it was worth it
This and the Jurassic Park game at Chuck e Cheese, damn time has passed.
Hard to believe a 1989 game is still the best TMNT game ever made.
Ironically, Turtles in Time was better on the SNES IMHO.
Tiviat it's really really close I'd go with either one TBH
Great soundtrack for this game.
That was one HELL OF A GAME. The music, the graphics, the level design, the variety of enemies. An absolute classic ❤️
Those were the days when game designers really cared.
I remember going to the Mall Arcade and playing this game for hours
When all you needed was 1 quarter per play. Been to any arcade recently? Highway robbery
This, The SImpsons, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter
+Truth What Dave & Busters look like? Do they have this game?
+michael moss Nope, but you don't see this type of game period anymore, in cabinet form. It's either a shooter, driving or some damn app game that they made into a cabinet. I remember the neo-geo cabinets blew my mind at the laundromat.. 5 games in one arcade!? Boys was dumbfounded
US $5 for a one round jet ski simulator of 5min.
Seriously, thats nothing what a kid or teen can afford anymore.
CJ you have to factor in inflation and also that arcades get much less traffic than times past.
2:21 "Say your prayers, toitles"
Playing with all 4 turtles at the same time was my favorite feature of this game. I hope they re release the arcade classic on some console.
Para mi el mejor Arcade de todos los tiempos y con un soundtrack muy agradable , fue un juego avanzado a su época.
Still the shit 26 years later! They have this at Dorky's in Tacoma, WA (along with a ton of other arcade machines). Spent a couple bucks for nostalgia's sake.
Oh man, isn't that the place where the owner got in trouble
How much money I blew on this damn game
Burke Minns same here bro
Burke Minns goflorid
everyone would feed into Michelangelo. i was badass with him.
Yeah it was ridiculous
This was a great game....
So many memories. Loved this game down the arcades, and the original turtles were the best.
I'm so happy a new arcade just opened up near me and they recently fixed one of these cabinets up. So happy lol
M.A.G.A! MAKE ARCADES GREAT AGAIN. lol.
Remember first seeing this as an 8 year old in 1989. Man, it blew my socks off!
It has to be my favourite arcade game of all time.

Awesome time to be a kid.
I can still the sound of this game blasting from inside of the mall arcade as you walked past. Memories!!!
Say your prayers, wallet. Too many quarters were used in this game back in the day. :)
Better than Battlefront and the Division
This game was so incredibly awesome. This and the Simpsons Arcade from the same time frame were so FUN!
THIS IS THE REAL TURTLES VERSION PERIOD
Disageed. I always hated the 80's cartoon.
The original Mirage comics, 1991 movie and the 2003 show are far better in every way.
Yes, but the NES port a nostalgia plus on it.
Como é bom voltar no tempo. Que viagem. 😍
Too many memories.... I can't take it anymore!!! Those all sounds are so familiar to me, dang.
Child memories overload ;D
Me and my brother and 2 cousins used to spend countless hours playing this game when we were kids. When we went to an amusement park that is close by we wouldn't even ride anything. Just spend all day in the arcade playing games like this, Simpsons and X-Men. Good old days
The game dont even look that dated imo!
It's not a 1st person shooter so it does.
if you dont know in the 90s we had the best videogames ever
pukki34 / The animation is incredible
basically the 80's were IT, but we did get some awesome titles in the 90's, before it all turned into SF2 and MK clones (after '92). then consoles and PC duplicated then utterly surpassed arcades in the early 00's. still, these great titles live on

🐀🐢🐢🐢🐢
Why should he be? They are NINJAS! ;)
The Game Cube rehash of this classic game sucks hairy balls.Rocksteady doesn't even talk in it.
I couldn't agree more. Not only that, the awesome music isn't even there.
Seriously, what in the heck was Konami thinking? Were they just trying to purposely tick off TMNT fans of the classic series? How hard would it have been to put the music and voice clips on a gamecube disc?
By that time, the newer ninja turtles like Ninja Turtles 2000 that had Raph acting like a SERIOUS psycho...
Looking back at this, Michael Bay actually hit a few nails on the head as far as getting the look and feel right. Just wish he'd focus more on the actual TMNT and the other main characters and not on Fox
Hit the nail? Look and feel right? Stop posting on youtube when you're drunk.
I spent a ton of quarters playing this in the arcade! I miss those times!
Good watch. Glad to see it was a honest play through and not some no hit impossible run through.
These arcade games were actually amazing! Good graphics and great sound! Anyone know if each game from a company had standard spec hardware they used between games?
Thanks for posting this... I could never finish it back then!
Man, why they never put this game and Turtles in Time in a packaged set on the new consoles is beyond me. Those two are such awesome multiplayer beat em ups.
Better yet, why didn't they ever rerelease this game onto the SNES? The NES port of it just didn't do this game justice.
Sfcvgguygvvj. C
they did it was on xbox live about 7 years ago then the license ran out and never came back. Turtles in Time was on the snes and it was a little different but the gameplay was the same.
Nelson McCray No, that Turtles in Time on the 360 was NOT turtles in time.
Ricky Ray I didn't say Turtles in Time was 360 I said snes
Ricky Ray I agree that was a horrible crime of a remake, yuk! I hope someone gets the license soon to release again this awesome game on the new consoles.
I remember playing this at Wal-Mart and Chuck E Cheese when I was 7 and 8.
this was the best TMNT Game EVER you could play 4 players! and the play through was so nostalgic because all the boss were there. It was as accurate as the tv series.
I had so much fun playing this game at my local Walmart and Showbiz Pizza!!!
Oh the nostalgia!!! my fav characters were always Mike and Leonardo. Classic stuff, so many coins spent there ☺ good ol times. So many times my oldest cousin would rant on us for taking the pizza (because he used Raphael).
such a classic . the colors and sounds and music is great in this
FYI to the milenials; Fires in the late 1980's did not have smoke..........yeah, those were the days!
Ha ha, yeah, and I guess it was a good idea for the bad guys to stay in the building and fight, too. Fun game to play, though, esp. at home on the NES version
Metal Detecting NYC *MILLENIALS
I sunk so much money into this arcade game. Incredible.
Thanks to you I could see the whole game. I never could complete it when I was a kid. You made my afternoon.
I spent a lot of quarters on this game, in a time were games were fun. Donatello was my fav.
Did u really? I could beat this game with about $4
+Bradford Boucher your a douch $4 my ass
Bobby Roberts Yeah he had three others playing along side of him.
+patrick smith grown men who seen him playing alone, then they shredded him,and gave him 4 bucks lol
Still are fun....maybe we're getting older....looking forward to the new Zelda game ...Breath of the Wild...March '17....Openworld...3 times bigger than the biggest one now....Skyrim or Witcher 3 or something else
Omg i remember playing this over and over in the arcade. Never did finish it.
I like the epilogue, ESCAPE TO DIMENTION X!
Mmol
Chuck E. Cheeses counted on me to dump all my quarters in this machine
Ha ha! Same here. I literally played this and ignored everything else at Chuck E. Cheeses.
7 years old, the bowling alley, me and 3 others taking on this game. Such awesome memories.
Bowling alley memories, damn I miss my childhood!!!!
Donatello was is and will always be the best. His reach was unmatched. Not to mention he was my favorite turtle any way lol
Mine too
I love being a Turtle ❤ 🐢.
POLL: What Turtle Did You Choose When You Played TMNT?
Native Inspired Leonardo.. every time
Donatello. His bo staff had more reach and better collission detection than the other turtles' weapons.
Donotello
Donatello was the easiest because he had the reach with the bow and used him when I was serious. Leonardo was good too with the sword. Michelangelo was the coolest because of the fast nunchucks. Raphael... well you only used him if you wanted a challenge. 😄
This game was cool because for people could all play . Yellow brick road arcade
So ready for the Cowabunga Collection!! I missed playing this in the arcade.
excellent collection of videos
Bring back so many memories
I used to play this game whene I was a little kid I wanna play this game so bad
this blew my mind as a kid.....best game in the arcade at the time
Amazing to think this game is almost 30 years old lol. I use to play it when i was 6 years old in my local arcade.....local arcade....those are a thing of the past lol
And pretty good graphics and sounds for it's time, eh
Random boulders falling down the stairs. *Sigh* kids these days will never know what it means to play a game that didn't give a damn about reality
CJ literally almost all the games don’t give a damn about reality, m8
Smoke inhalation, why the random pizza laying about, how these ninjas are perfectly hid in sequence throughout the city, where the damn cops are, the scale of broken down taxi, Donnie would have to be the size of a 4 yr old child. I was nitpicking also. #cinemasins
I love how at the beginning of some of the old arcade games there's a warning about how not to do drugs, but I'm pretty sure pumping quarters into these games is about as addictive.
The only 3 difference between the original arcade game and the nintendo version arcade game is.
#1. Different background music song in the sewer level.
#2. A new wolf boss after the sewer level.
#3. Instead of fighting bebop and rocksteady to save april, in the nintendo version you fight baxster stockman in his fly form.
-You forgot the snow stage in the NES version,
-And the Music sounded BETTER on the NES for some reason
Tiviat That is true I miss playing this game on the nes :(
EMU(JNes)
You also forgot the dojo stage with the samurai boss.
Adam Toczek The ninja master that needed some Chloraseptic..Master Tatsu
Watched the cartoon religiously as a kid and this was all the kids were talking about in elementary school. I lost my @#$% when I finally saw it at the arcade with a crowd of people around the cabinet with 4 people playing.
Donnie was always my favorite in this game...love it.
Best game ever.. my all time favorite
First arcade game I ever played at 4 I was hooked on it like a meth head
Instant Retro-flashback!
Hey can I insert a coin so I can join in?...
👋👽✌
I like how April is smaller than the desk.
Granted all the characters are not much taller
i love the old tmnt games!!
The soundtrack....Awesome!
I dumped SO many quarters in this machine as a kid. I remember finally getting the NES port and it was great but not the same. I still blew my allowance on the arcade every chance I got.
Gameplay was pretty similar to ninja gaiden. The game was truly great when i was a kid. Still remember playing this at the arcade
So many memories
Thank you
I just want to throw a bunch of 20ps in, hit Michelangelo and join in!
Great memories, used to play this a NCL Airport :)
love this game would love too own arcade game
James Sammons *TO
I got to play this game for the first time recently, and it was actually really fun!
I love this game me & my friends we spend a lot of time playing this game it's was awesome!!! :)
Hats off to the foot men that wait so patiently to come through those doors
Amazing game, and the NES release was great too.
pressing attack+jump simultaneously would've made your life so much easier in a lot of situations
Impressive how the games improved in the 80's
it still feels weird to me to play this game with anything less than 3 players. back in the day it was always a group deciding to play together, or walking up to a machine that was already full. now thanks to netplay options, it can be this way again
this game looks fantastic for that time and platform
I was born in 1980, this is probably the game I put the most quarters into :D
Oh dear jesus the memories! Played this obsessively on a ferry to Jersey, couldn't wait for the holiday to end to get back on it for the return, only to find that it was a different one with Altered Beast instead - gutted.
loved this game was not very good at it but it was fun
i suck at this.
Amazing graphics for a game made in 1989-1990
wow this brings back memorys
