Hi Im a Faroese person! It makes me glad that our history and culture becoming more wide spread and accurately told. :) I saw you mention Nólsoyar Páll. Fun fact, he has a statue in centrum of Tórshavn by the harbor! Our currency has the exact same value and name as the danish krone. You can use danish and faroese currency in Faroe Islands, however in Denmark you cannot use faroese currency (really sucks). Our coins are still the exact same as the danish.

During my years of education, I've had some Faroese classmates, their Danish language is impeccable, even less dialect than you find at the west coast of Jutland. If it wasn't for letters like ð in their names, you'd not notice that they were from the Faroe Islands.

Where interested video that even covers some of the newer researches that we try to shift over here on Faroe island. This video has the basics and little more (some things even Faroese people don’t think about/know) down. It keeps it distance from the complex things which would have take. Hours to talk about (which you can research for your own if interested). Only slight thing is that the vote of independence did have a favor of succeeding from Denmark but didn’t happen because some complex issue (true), but far from everyone where happy of “Heimastýrislógin” which was what Denmark answered with. The issue was so big that it became an part of the issue of “Læknastríði” or “Klaksvíkstríði” which almost led to a civil war (even bombs exploded and Denmark took control with police/slight military force for a short time) because of a German doctor that had a complex legal issue with the Danish parliament and doctor institucion (or what it’s called) again very good simple video, just thought this side note was interesting to bring up. A lot of the more or less original immigrants of the Faroes came from the western coast of norway about a thousand years ago. So their language is, not dissimilar to iceland's story, much like the dialects of western norway, which in norway developed into the written language form of nynorsk. So for norwegians, perhaps western norwegians more prominantly, it is very easy to read and understand faroese.
