    Thank you for bringing up how this mess is the front office’s more than the on-field manager’s. Boone is by far not the best manager in the league but he can’t put a lineup together if the pieces aren’t there. Perhaps if they had a stronger personality in the dugout meeting with Cashman and everyone in the analytics department we could have someone tell them that the roster has good pieces on it but that doesn’t mean it’s a good team.

  • @nacoran
    @nacoran Год назад

    When the Red Sox had their famous 0-3 comeback in the playoffs vs. the Yankees the Yankees, for some reason, had a pitching staff dominated by right handers. The Yankees should, just like their hitting staff, stack their pitching with lefties, specifically to shut down left handers on opposing teams at Yankee Stadium.
    I also think that they focus too much on signing stars to long term contracts instead of building depth. That makes them too vulnerable to injuries. Almost by definition the way teams play with service time a superstar that becomes a free agent isn't going to be on the upswing part of their career. Maybe you get them for a couple years of their prime, but after that they are going to go into decline, and if you sign them long term you are going to eat that decline. I think maybe you need to structure the contracts with more team opt outs (although I know there are some complex rules for how contracts can be structured). Say though, for instance, you sign a 29 year old superstar named Clark Kent to play for your team. He's looking for a 10 year deal, and he wants $300 million. Right now, you give him $30 million a year for 10 years, or maybe you even back load it and have a Bobby Bonilla day so that you can push some of that down the line when the luxury cap might be worth more. What you should be doing is building an escape valve into the contract. No player is just going to give you an opt out, and if you front load the contract you have problems with the luxury tax and possibly with that player being less inclined to stay in shape. Instead, offer him $30 million a year ($300 million) but give yourself an opt out where you can pay less but they can go play for someone else. Say for the first 5 years you promise them 50% if you opt out... that means if you opt out after year four, you owe them 50% of the balance of their contract... $140 million. After year 5, maybe you owe them 30%, so if you opt out after year 7, you owe them $30... but you owe them that whether they go play somewhere else or not. You are still giving them a big contract, but you have a way out if they become an albatross around your neck... but unlike a straight opt out they get something so there is a better chance for them to still make close to the total contract amount because they can sign for less for another team and still count on you providing them a nice subsidy to play somewhere else. Importantly, this would clear some room under the luxury tax for you if you had to release them... not all of it, but some.

      @drygnfyre Год назад

      I'd say nowadays with the way baseball teams are put together, very rarely is the manager the issue. Many of them are often times just yes-men for the front office. Aaron Boone might be the face, but firing him won't change anything unless the front office is changed, too. That also means managers have a tendency to get unfairly blamed and fired for the failings of the front office.

    What some non-Yankees fans (and maybe even some Yankees fans) may not know or remember is that this actually started last year, well before the playoffs. The Yankees in the first half of 2022 were DOMINANT. I mean people were thinking of the 1998 Yankees dominant. The second half was absolutely horrendous, and they limped into the playoffs. They didn't address any major issues, those issues just came home to roost. Our GM has been so proud of finding gems in the trash heap that he made it his strategy. That was alway asinine, because you need a strong foundation of a team to be able to take those chances and still win. The foundation of the Yankees has been crumbling since 2021. The young core of Judge, Torres and Sanchez didn't work out the way they wanted it to, and they never addressed their lineup issues sufficiently. Also, it seems like while we have highly touted prospects, they never seem to pan out for us, and we hold them past their peak value (Florial)

      Teams like the Astros and Dodgers seem to understand you need to spend money, but also develop. The Padres (and perhaps the Yankees) seem to think you just keeping throwing more and more money, sooner or later the talent will just appear. I think the Yankees have fallen into the "brand name trap" that some other high profile franchises have fallen into, like the Lakers. That thinking the name and history alone will always attract talent. Sure, that sometimes works out, but this year's Mets (and Yankees) are a good example of how you need more than just the payroll.

    Are Yankees fans complaining about spending money? Lol This is how it goes sometimes things don’t always workout. But No ones complaining about Judges contract right now but in a few years this video is going to come out again but complaining about that. But I’d rather be complaining about bad contracts then not spending money. Maybe a coaching change, but don’t stop spending money Cashman.

    It's so weird seeing the Yankees be THIS bad. 😄 It's almost like living in an alternative universe.

      The Yankees were actually pretty bad during the late 80s/early 90s. The 1992 team was probably the worst, but from roughly 88-92 they were usually at or below .500. One of the ironies was the 1990 squad saw a complete game shutout... that ended in a loss due to walks and errors. I think things move in cycles, every few decades, even the most storied franchises are gonna have their rough patches.

    Hal turn this team over to a Baseball mind. One that cares about the Yankees and their history and the pinstripes. One that cares about the NY fans and winning. You know who? She is your Sister Jennifer and attends and watches most every game including ST and still has time for her business and charity's! Go away Hal and take your Boy Brian with you!

    Poor Yankees fans.. I know it looks bad for a wildcard berth , but all you guys have to do is win about 31 of the 32 games left . Oh but then you almost must hope that The Red Sox , Tampa , Toronto , Seattle , LA Angels., Houston and Texas start loosing all their games.And then Cleveland is only a half a game behind. I would think you would have your work cut out for you. 😢

    Ultimately the blame goes to the owner who refuses to fire Brian Cashman. Brian Cashman is easily the most overrated GM on earth who gets more credit for sh!t that he didnt do than anyone ever has. BOB WATSON and GEORGE STEINBRENNER were the architects of the late 1990s Yankee dynasties. Bob Watson quite because George insisted on splurging in free agency too much. Cashman was hired after the core of those dynasties were already in place and its been a tailspin since. The only Yankees champion you can tie to Cashman directly was in 2009 and even that year was only won because the owner went above and beyond the luxury tax threshold to sign Teixeira and Sabathia. I dont think alot of people really understand just how bad Cashman has been at drafting young talent. Outside of Judge, Cashman has been terrible at drafting young talent. In this luxury tax era of revenue sharing your GM MUST be able to succeed at drafting and developing young talent and Cashman has been terrible in that department.
