Regarding the soul gem; Capturing the souls of men and mer (as well as the Soul Cairn and Ideal Masters) was established in Battlespire before Oblivion added black soul gems into the lore. Missa being soul trapped is faithful to the lore as it was at the time of Morrowind and is a great example for both how long TR has been in development and what "canon" the team strives to be faithful to.
Necrom has such a nice layout, I wish they weren't redesigning it to look more like a canton city
honestly a lot of these quests seem very poorly designed, to the point that your options are so limited and/or obscure to where you need to consult the UESP
I'd take more time to figure the stuff out if I weren't streaming. I don't want to spend too much time talking to every NPC to figure out a tiny piece of info.
Arena was considered bland so the writers RAMPED IT UP for Daggerfall and it got WEIRD in the way that we have come to love. Did you see Camelworks interview with Ted Peterson?
further down the road it starts to feel like at least 50% of the weirdness in TES lore comes from the fact that they started going out of their way to retcon generic stuff from Arena to make it seem unique, there's also the multiple endings in Daggerfall... and then Kirkbride and his shrooms/LSD collection come into play
About the "locks in a world where lockpicking magic exists" conversation, I've had the idea for DnD when I'm dming to make a society where the uppercrusts have locks with no keyeholes, and the idea is that you're either a spellcaster or someone with the wealth to afford some kind of magic item, and that's how you unlock your door instead of with a mundane key.

The Vvardenfel map that came with Morrowind was amazing, I spent so much time studying it as a kid. Honestly it would be incredible if games like Elden Ring came with one too.
