One thing that's noticeable in the 2012 series is that they flip stuff that the 03 series did around. In TMNT 03, the turtles go to space, and that causes the invasion arc 2 seasons later. While in TMNT 2012, it's the opposite, the Triceraton invasion causes the team to go to space. Another one is in 03 when the turtles meet Zog and Don goes to help him breathe. Ralph says that may not be a good idea what if turns around and attacks us, and again, the opposite thing happens. Zog helps the turtles first gets his equipment again and turns on the turtles. Those were just the ones that are noticeable in s3

I always felt that the farm house episodes were such an awkward point to have filler episodes. Like the Krang already invaded New York and could begin taking over more of the world…yet who cares about that we need to have episodes parodying horror movies. It’s even weirder when in the first episode they say Leo’s been unconscious for months…thank god the Krang apparently just decided to stay in New York for all that time

it was very bad writing on their part as the excuse was that kraang’s mutagen supply was used up in the invasion and that’s why they couldn’t mutate the earth sooner yet we learn that time passes faster in dimension x and that they were ready to invade again the very next episode even tho the turtles had put them back months in their time in s2 ep 24 so in the 3/4 months where they weren’t in New York the kraang had years possibly decades to get more mutagen.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I have to ask the question: when else would they do some of these stories? When else would they get the Turtles out of the city, into the country, so out of their element and in such distinct an area with its own opportunities for storytelling? Having them go back to New York only to occasionally head back to the farmhouse would've been even more awkward. Same for the space arc in season 4; I totally understand wanting to spend so many episodes exploring the idea because when else are they going to get to do so with this version of the Turtles?

As someone who grew up with this version of TMNT along with the 2k3 version as well. There are some things I would like to go off of with your points.
The pacing - While I do agree that the pacing of season 3 is a little weird it’s not mainly the show’s fault. The 8 “farmhouse” episodes of season 3 were supposed to air in October instead of November but because of the Michael Bay TMNT movie premiering and being advertised. The 8 “farmhouse” episodes of season 3 needed to be pushed back I’m not entirely sure but I think that’s the reason
Karai’s cure - As for this in season 2 where Karai was originally mutated we see Superfly (Baxter Stockman fly) accidentally spill a chemical into the serpent DNA which made Karai a serpent in the near end of the episode before the credits and in episode 10 of season 3 Karai can transform from human into snake and even have a mixed form of human and snake. Donatello didn’t know a cure for Karai’s specific mutation in episode 11 of season 3 he wasn’t entirely sure and as for “Stockman curing Karai” he didn’t Karai transformed into her human form
P.S Seth Green is the best Leonardo (I’m sorry I said it lol)

Yeah, the Utrom Shredder will always be my favourite iteration of the character, but I have to admit I like this Shredder too.
Him killing Splinter reminds me of the final moments of the Utron Shredder in the uncut version of the Turtles Forever movie, seeing he's about to die to uncurls his giant fist from around the Original Turtles, and then Karai tells him that killing the Turtles will kill everything, including him and begs him to stop, you see him contemplate for a moment, but he is Resolute, he is The Shredder, if killing the Turtles means everyone dies, then so be it.

Personally for me I really love this season 3, yeah like their is some filler in some aspects in the first several episodes with the farm but I still find it to be quite enjoyable.
Some worth mentioning was a bit of character development of some sorts with the turtles like Mikey that's been treated like the litter of the group and he decides to run away and meet the punk frogs. To me Mikey has been always my favorite and it saddens/upsets me whenever the turtles and other picks/bullies him throughout the show. And it's when he gets the respect that he deserves and is treated more like an equal than an annoying brother. Also the horror themes throughout the farm scenes was unexpected and thrilling for which I like about it.
Also fun fact April's mom is voiced by the original April O'Neil from the 1987 series (Ranae Jacobs) which was surprising giving the return of old VA's from the original OG series that I grew up from.
Another aspect was the introduction or reimagine of new characters like Hun who's design and mannerism are of late famous Bruce Lee. I said this before that this version of the 2012 TMNT series was by far my favorite of all the other iterations versions and still too this day.

    @petertilton7004 6 месяцев назад +11

I found it quite fascinating that they got Renee Jacobs, the voice of April in the 87 series, to be the alien mimic of this series's April's mom.
Another thing to mention was the whole Crognard bit. That was a parody of Thundarr the Barbarian complete with parodies of Uukla the Moch and Princess Ariel, and another Scott Menville voiced punching bag character, and they made a He-Man reference. At least they're also progressing with the cartoon, in this case, early 80's.
And though they were one off, the Punk Frogs have their incarnations with Atilla being like Atilla the Hun, Genghis being Genghis Khan, Rasputin being Rasputin but rather than Napoleon Bonapart, Napolean was based on Napoleon Dynamite.
Also, they got Tom Kenny of Spongebob fame to voice Rockwell.
And the Bebop and Rocksteady thing was previewed at a comic-con, at least, the storyboard was.
Finally the Vision Quest episode was also a reference to Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan. "Move as swift as the wind, stay as silent as a forest, attack as fierce as fire, unmovable defense like a mountain". With Leonardo as the wind, Mikey as the forest, Raph as fire and Donnie as the mountain.

I was interested in these references to previous Turtles shows. That’s what made the 2012 special to me as a gateway to the larger franchise.
I also like that the reimagining in the Turtle Van.
It was initially Kirby’s old hippie van the gang used and later turned it into a weaponized vehicle. I always thought it was a great redesign of the classic Turtle vehicle.

I understand that the farmhouse arc felt a little long, but the Kraang had used up most of the mutagen and so needed time to make their next move. Also, the team suffered a great lost along with Leo being badly injured. They needed time to process what had happened and relax before they could go back. Besides, their time on the farm helped developed their dynamics, like with Casey and Donnie in Race with a Demon, I can't remember the name so don't at me.

  • @PeteOfDawn
    @PeteOfDawn 6 месяцев назад +21

Yes season 4 of 2012 as meant to be the last. Season 5 has a slightly different format being composed of several mini arcs that are pretty self contained rather than having one over arching story. But season 4 is meant to be the end of the main storyline with season 5 being some cool extra storylines if you want to spend more time with these character. In that respect it’s similar to the last 2 seasons of 2003 however unlike those seasons it’s not a big change in tone and style.
As for the whole shipping thing I pretty much agree that it doesn’t really affect my enjoyment that much. I can see why ti bothers other fans but for me it’s something I can ignore since the show for the most part doesn’t make it a primary focus. Unlike that big foot episode which was one of the episodes that made me stop watching back in the day. That’s easily the worst episode of this series especially with its ending.
I can see why you think 2003 Shredder is the better villain since he’s overall more menacing than 2012. But I consider 2012 to be the more compelling character of the two. It’s obvious from the first season that his whole life has been taken over by his vendetta against Splinter (and by extension the turtles) and he’ll succeed at getting his revenge by any means necessary. Which is not only shown in the last episode of this season but also season 4.
One last detail I’ll point out that your videos are making me realize about this series is that they really do a good job selling how powerful the enemies are. Like in 2003 the Turtles are pretty even when they go up against Shredder (past season 1) and the triceratons and what not. But in this show that’s not the case as they are frequently bested and even lose which makes their victories feel all the more earned. You’ve really get the sense they’ve grown in strength and power where in 2003 they feel relatively the same in strength all throughout till season 5.

    Minor spoilers
My biggest problem with Season 3 is that the Kraang are just dead. They still have some episodes in Season 4, but that’s mainly just due to time traveling. There’s some hint that the Kraang are still around in Season 5, but they never actually show up. So I’m left to believe the final showdown against Kraang Prime was Season 2’s finale, which is dissatisfying.
For the love triangle, only Donnie’s side got resolved. Casey thought he and Donnie would still be competing. You’ll notice that Donnie is playing more defensive instead of trying to impress April or trigger Casey (though he still does trigger Casey since Donnie is easily tempered). Both characters still have an attraction toward April, but you’ll see for Seasons 4 and 5 that Casey generally loses interest, and it ends up being Donnie and April. I just thought I’d say this since the love triangle is a criticism for the show people exaggerate on, even though it gets resolved.

I get what you mean when certain plots and locations are left on for way too long and have overstayed their welcome. I remember when I first watched the 2012 turtles during the pandemic, I stopped in the middle of season 4 because I felt like the turtles were in space for far too long. It wasn’t until this year that I finished off the rest of the series, but yeah..overall I don’t have a problem with the latter seasons, I just felt like some plots and locales have over stayed there welcome. I’m excited to see the rest of the videos as you talk about this series some more. And hay, maybe next year you could give Rise of the TMNT a try, that series is severely underrated in my opinion.

Something that I actually love about this series is all the references to classic horror/sci-fi films! It it crazy how much film history they cramped in there, which is also why I love the Pizza episode you didn't like (I also think it's just really funny). You can tell much of this was made by nerds, a tell-tale signs of course being the on-point references in the cartoons they watch each season that foreshadows the event of the episodes. The satire is spot on.

Season 4 was meant to be the final season of the 2012 series, but Nick wanted more episode, so they were made to make Season 5 and there was argument over a series of episodes in Season 5, wheither it was canon or not by the team and nickelodeon, also episodes 11-17 of Season 5 aired on Nicktoons and not Nickelodeon. Anyway Great Video, love the finale of Season 3.

I always thought the 1990 film did the Farmhouse arc best. The gang gets to rest from defeat, they bond, and a lot of significant things happen in a reasonable amount of time. But yes, while I do like this season, I do feel there was a lot more filler episodes. Season 4 is definitely good, but there is a lot you have to get though.

I do see one hiccup on this. Why didn't the Kraang tell Shredder where their lair is during the time at the farm house? Because you feel they would, making a story where Shredder is waiting forcing them to fight, eventually forcing them to retreat and find a new lair.

Season three is heavily good, especially the ending. I was heavily shocked the way the team did splinter and we have to respect shredder for going through with his goal no matter what. That is heavily respected in my opinion. Season four I can not remember to much as it was over a decade old that this point but I do love the new love interest for Ralph. I believe season four might had something to do with the shredder being completely gone which lead up to the aftermath of season five. I could be incorrect about that.

If this season had quite the deal with time travel, I would've definitely loved to see the 2012 series do their own version of "Same As It Never Was" where either Donatello or all four turtles go to an alternate reality where they are forced to fight evil doppelgangers of themselves or even worse, krang mutant monsters of themselves who serve the krang. In my opinion, that would definitely have been a good pay off to all the backstory that we have been getting thus far and probably would've made the Turtles look like powerful religious figures had the story gone in that direction. It would have basically served as a metaphor for choosing your own path and destiny while also showing the protagonists a virtual what if vision had the bad guys always won and if the heroes were never born. I feel like that's what's been missing in time travel stories today. A reason for why the main characters exist and are given the life and purpose they have. Without the main characters in their lives, the world they currently inhabit would be totally chaotic. Everyone who is born or created is important in each and their own way and contribute to the ongoing cycle that is life.
Now when you equate the multiverse in there, that's when everything gets corrupt and all fabrics of realities get destroyed. Anyone you once knew and loved ceases to exist and the whole world around you as you once knew it disappears into nothingness. Almost as if life itself never happened at all. How nihilistically philosophical is that. In fiction, we the authors, filmmakers, show runners and artists are the gods and creators of these worlds. We have the power to both create and destroy.
