yep I been wet with rivers coming up over night and they make no noise and are very quick the night I got wet there was no rain in camp but it rained about 5km away I ended up spending a week camp on top of a hill, a must when 4x4ing is to have more food than you need.
Beat me too it! Love stimsons. Should note even if you are a snake expert handling of Australian wildlife can come with some hefty fines without the proper licenses or permits..
Ronny mate, as an old boy scout we were taught never the camp in a river bed especially if there is alluvial soil. This lesson was handed down from the old stockmen.
Yeah we are well aware of that, however a lot of the areas in the Pilbara are flood plains so when the rivers burst/rise above the flood plains are next which is were our camp was
Leave it to Mother Nature to humble even the most experienced offroader. Careful with those snakes guys. Maybe add some inflatable rafts to the recovery kit? 😁👍🔥
This part of our country is absolutely stunning I lived and worked on the hammersley iron rail line for about 4 years back in the 90’s Just loved it! I saw the Ashburton really in flood after cyclone Olivia in 96 It was a couple of Ks wide Great video guys
Great vid. The Misses and I spent 5 days backcountry last week and we too got flooded out. Moved camp no problem but we had to still take 4 water crossings to get out. Walked them all, aired down further and got home. Was a bit nerve racking. Lessons learned and your advice followed. Thanks Ronnie.
Lol. Last two videos are textbook examples of why swag on the ground is bonkers I think. I'll let you guys roll around in the floods, snakes, and spiders. ;)
I woke up in the water once, hammock camping at the beach, I was all the way to the treeline but didn't check the tides, was a full moon that night. Woke up to the sound of water splashing around me, flipped up my cover just in time to catch 5 gallons of saltwater to the face, stepped out of the hammock and was knee deep in water. Had to walk 3 miles in the pitch black with no shoes because flashlight and shoes were washed away. Funny now but at the time I can assure you I was not laughing.
Every time I watch one of your videos I find myself envious. I hope to someday explore some of your country with the family. Thanks again for taking us along for the ride it has been awesome so far can't wait for the next one! Anyway man all the best from Northern California
Loving the videos man !!! Very beautiful landscapes and the night time lightning reminds me of home(Florida) . A lot of similarities with the US west , red rock and green foliage . Cant wait for the next episode !!
Hi Ronny most of the rivers are coneted up towards broom , I noticed if there's any rain up north or near inland the rivers can randomly flood like U have seen on this trip , we tend to check the Radar around us before camping
In sw amerika rule #1: don’t camp in arroyos for the same reason as you just experienced. Living over inland of Noosa it’s great to see your neck of the bush. Stay healthy and stay safe Cheers 🍻
How cute was that little python mate, bloody beautiful...... looks like a Stimson Python to me....the other way you can pick a python, along with the broad head ( like a blue tongue or shingle back lizard ), is towards the back of their jaw line on the side of their head near where their head meets their body, there’s little heat pits that they use for hunting prey. Sadly though, not enough people take the time the work out whether their harmless or hot and kill them anyway - hate that 🤬🤬 Sorry Ronny, digressed a little 😁 top clip mate as always, thoroughly enjoying the series thus far mate 👍👍👍👍
I live in channel country and see a huge amount of people setting up camps in creek beds. I guess they figure it's sheltered from the wind? And they always know better than the local who warns them.
great video as usual Ronnie, you never know you might 3rd time lucky with the river rising, when i first got married back over 30 yrs ago, the wife and I loved camping just using a good quality mountaineering tent and ground sheet, we live in Canada and went to the badlands in North Dakota a full days drive from home we got to the campground and pitched the new tent in 100kph winds that took us 40 mins that should have been 5 mins, this was in Theodore Roosvelt National Park so the buffalo roam freely and you must get out of their way , we then had the worst thunder storm in a decade the park ranger told us the next morning as a tree had been hit by lighting during the night with wild lighting show and i just slept through all this while my wife got up and went to sleep in the car unknown to me, i slept great i said when she asked me, i smiled and the look on her face could've killed a charging bull LMAO and a few days later we camped in another part of the park in the tent and the weather was much better, although the buffalo herd in this part of the park had a much larger presence the herd was about 250 animals or more , so i drove to get us some beer and fire wood and comeback to the camp site to get a fire going to cook dinner and as i drove up my wife was up on a large rock probably 2 metres high, trust me she was the furthest person from athletic , while i was gone she was sitting in the tent reading a book waiting for me to return to get dinner started and what happened was she had a CD player going that attracted a buffalo calf and it came up and stuck its head in the tent and she looked up and screamed at the top of her lungs scaring the shit out of the calf and herself well it took off like a shot out of hell and so did she up on the rock I walked up to the rock and sad are you sight seeing up there sort of laughing, it didn't go over too well, and helped her down and she told me what happened i fell over laughing so hard saying this would only happen to you on you first ever trip here, i laughed for a good while and she well did take it to good and barely said a word to me until the next day, and i asked the aboriginal guide the next day how often people encounter buffalo first hand he said once in a lifetime chance and she looked at me as if she's about to kill me when i told what happened to her, well you could have fried an egg on her head and he said your a lucky woman, she looked at him as if he were crazy he and i both laughed and he then said it suppose to be some kind of a good thing in aboriginal culture, so from there on her idea of camping was slow room service and that great tent only got use when i was out fishing with my buddies or a family member borrowed it and still have it today and each time i see it in the garage i think of that maiden trip with our new tent and bust out laughing every time, she never told me how she got up on that 2 metre high rock to this day and she was only just 5 ft tall and i climbed it myself with some difficulty, she has no sense of humour about it at all and i do , maybe thats why we are no longer together, 😂 thats just life I thought y'all get a good laugh out of this story

Apart from crocodiles, Floods (especially in wet season) are a good reason NOT to camp near a river. Stunning shots though. As demonstrated by this trip twice.
Yeah the hilux is a great platform but the 90s has that something more I can't explain, it has that fizz more that make it amazing. Plus the hilux isn't so good speaking in terms of approach angle.

Nice video Rob. Not a big fan of towing while off-road, sometimes seems like you traveling with a boat anchor. Been interested in bigger canvas to an outdoor expedition vehicle, such as the Mitsubishi Fuso (Canter) 4wd, or the Iveco Daily 4wd. With big payload standard, and space enough to install a camper van on the tray.
I’d definitely consider the Hino first and the Isuzu second and the fuso a distant third. The Iveco I’d leave off the list. We are currently only ordering Hinos because we’re getting such a good run out of them.
@@lastknownlocation8760 can the 4wd transfer case handle the payload? Some conversion use utes transfer cases, that leaves some question about how tough they can handle heavier payloads they would handle in a ute.
Man, for someone that does so much outback and off-road remote stuff, going into a gorge, at night, while there’s a storm around, is just asking to be hit by a flash flood and getting seriously hurt. At least talk about the risks of it when going in.
2,800 million years sounds so impressive. Except that without some form of rebuilding process (volcanoes, tectonic mountain-building etc.), which is not present in the Pilbara, average (measured) natural erosion rates means that it would have eroded to sea level more than 2,500 million years ago. Either somebody is telling us fairy tales or there is some unknown, unobserved process of stopping the erosion. Seeing all that water, the flood heights at Mussel Falls and the colour of the river, can anyone really believe that there is no erosion and the landscape is really that old?

What brilliant scenery and credit to the camera crew.
Mother nature can be both beautiful and merciless
While you were talking about the snake, I'd have been more concerned by the huge spider just up to the left (14:43). 🤣
Camped there 6 nights ago at Mussel Pool. Awesome spot. Beautiful country. No floods fortunately 😅😅
