I took my daughter to Disneyland a few months ago. Almost every line was full of Disney adults. Hardly any children. Bunch of 20 to 30 somethings with no kids wearing personalized Disney gear. We had to wait 40 minutes just for Small World as the majority of people ahead of us were these types. Frustrating
I feel that this kind of obsession is more specifically to the US/more common in the US. The reason why I'm say this is, bc I grew up in Austria and I haven't seen a lot of people who are obsessed with Disney that much in Europe. What people are really obsessed with are either Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or Star Wars.
The whole "you're getting engaged at Disney. It's weird. That's the most important moment of your life and you're doing it there" Girl, if that's the most important moment of your life you need to reevaluate yourself. That's a minor step to ONE OF MANY "most important" moments in your life (aka your wedding)
Wait, I have a lot of friends that I would call Disney Adults, but I don't think they spend absurd amounts of money on or at Disney. In fact, a lot of them are DIYers. They make/thrift their own clothes for Disney Bounding and their own Mouse Ears for their Disney trips, which often come out way cuter than what Disney sells in their stores. We live in the LA area so they also really get a bang for their buck utilizing yearly Disney passes and living near the parks. Theyre also very sweet and friendly and inviting! That's been my experience with them. (:
Your conversation about how Disney can be a lot like a religion reminded me of the song "kingdom in the sky" by da vincis notebook. It's a spin on old choir hymns done about worshipping Disney world.
I agree with the other comments that the guest portion was too sympathetic, we want questions and to deep dive into their obsession but it did feel mostly like hyping him up versus getting the details.
Hahaha "Disney literrally owns ESPN!!!" had me cracking up! Right on Francis, and right on to this podcast. I look forward to the next episode. Cheers!!!
Broooo, a real one for remembering the jacket clubs!! I remember two ladies getting into a fist flight over a non screen accurate dumbo tattoo in the bathroom outside of DCA. At the same time the goth crowd was draaama, very intense. Aye aye, but the real real ones remember TRON dance party, nothing will ever top the amount of fun I had there.
I agree that it's a live your life kind of thing. The only thing I can't stand about Disney adults is the crap they gave me for not going. When my kids were young some of these Disneyites would try to convince me that not taking my kids to Disneyworld was a sort of child neglect. I would point out that I took them to Spain, Greece, Israel, Mexico, Brasil, and all over the US, but my kids were somehow harmed but not going to Orlando.
I love the show, but I have trouble finishing an episode with guests since, as another commenter said, you don't seem to press them very much. I've seen this on other podcasts, too. Yes, be respectful, but you don't have to hype them up. I appreciate that you acknowledge your biases. That being said, it seems like the biases take over here and there. I like hearing what you have to say and want to be able to have some level of trust.
Also, I thought it was somewhat hypocritical the way sports were being talked about. I'm not into sports either, but in the same way Disney influences interests with nostalgia, sports can do the same. To some people, sports means more than what is literally happening on the field. But maybe let's still stop it with the football and other sports that mess with players' brains.
Okay, I have so many people in my life that are Disney adults and are absolutely obsessed. To the point where I'm kind of getting there myself and thinking about moving to Florida to be one of those Disney bloggers that just goes around the theme parks everyday and actually it gets paid to showcase them inside and out. I'm just starting the episode right now, but like really excited to hear your guys's thoughts and you guys are both super funny and make these topics really fun to listen to.
Why is no one talking about how Frances really seems pretty into the cult, toxically positive. I wish y’all would press your guests a little more instead of always agreeing. Also, I wish you delved more into the college program because that shit is really culty- the pay is awful and Disney is very strict with code of conduct. People very very often don’t make it through because of firings for things in their personal lives (like over 21 drinking alcohol). There are also people there who buy into the magic making in weird crazed ways. The whole thing seems like a culty scam to me
I know Disney Adults who had kids PURELY as an excuse to be MORE obsessed with Disney and to justify their park visits, home decor, movie watching, wardrobe and constantly talking about the films and dissecting every aspect of film theories.
I’m really confused by the verdict today. At the very least I feel like we should be weary of the cult of Disney adults, not because it can come to any serious harm, but people get so easily engrossed by this, make it their entire personality, forgo other life experiences so they can continue to afford all these Disney trips. It’s A LOT. And to think there are subgroups within that and drama that can ensue. The fact that the parks themselves have so many tier levels and they value their frequent flyers to so much higher a degree (even more than a normal vip experience) it makes it so casual fans have less enjoyment. Middle class people can’t just take their kids to the park every 5 years on vacation and actually enjoy decent wait times because the cult of Disney, the true followers of the culture and the capitalism pay their way to the front. I feel like you were a little easy on the Disney adults because you had Francis on. Sure it’s not HURTING anyone, but it’s no better than the cult of survivor, or other extreme fandoms
The comment about if someone doesn't know what a Disney adult is they must be from the moon is so elitist and ignorant. You know who has no idea who Disney adult is? 80% of people who don't live in USA. Cmon.
Not elitist or ignorant, just US Centric, which is how much of the English language Internet is. I agree that it is annoying. If it helps much of US media is also highly California and NYC centric so even most Americans can somewhat empathize with their perspectives being a bit ignored in "national conversations".
was actually interested in this episode and getting into another podcast.....but once commentary shifted to the Bible comparisons and saying bible scripture is fiction??? that was unnecessarily disrespectful and rude.
So, I guess I’m a “Disney Adult”! I don’t have kids and do go to the park like 3-4 times a year. I’m also an elementary school teacher in Florida. I think it’s also important to note that Disney World is size inclusive, where other amusement parks like Dollywood, Six Flags, or Universal are not. As a plus size person, I can actually go on the rides there. WDW is also super clean and all immersive! It’s super fun and I love it! I’m in recovery, so according to some people, I guess I’m in 2 cults? Haha! Thanks for the content. (PS- Amanda, and Isa, I have a Masters in Applied Linguistics! ♥️)
I've never heard it called a Disney Adult, but I definitely know some Adults who are obsessed with Disney. It's interesting that some of these people follow an antisemetic, white man perpetuating the capitalist, racist, and often patriarchy. as far as the following unethical brands or people, that is not true for everyone, some of us actually look into who's behind the brand. What they're doing are they paying taxes, are they good for the environment? Are they vegan, etc, because where I spend my money is how I'm telling these companies, I agree with them, or that they need to make some serious changes for the betterment of society. I don't feel that Disney is doing any of those things and is one of those things like football where yet people like it, but it's not doing any good, and it's not actually helping anyone
Great episode and super-entertaining and informative. I don't know the timestamp, but at one point, one of you said that MMA was fake, and I think what they meant was "WWE" or Pro-Wrestling, which is definitely staged. Mixed Martial Arts is definitely a real sport, lol.
Awesome show this is going to change the face of RUclips forever. Oooooooooooooo you endorsed BetterHelp.. that's really going to boost how many comments you get! :D
That Better Help commercial is a trigger for me, they say they want to help people, but then don't accept your insurance and charge 3 times as much as a local therapist.

Harry Potter and Star Wars are Disney...
@@7655kitten Harry Potter is not Disney. HP belongs to Warner Bros and the attractions are at Universal studios.
@@7655kitten no they're not
There are plenty of equivalents in Europe, for example Harry Potter adults and Dr Who adults.
haha I had to watch the youtube video to see the disney mickey mouse ears, amazing lol. Love your podacst!!
Same over here hahahaha but from Chile ;)
Me too. They got us lol

Disney adults are creepy and shouldn’t be around children
@@seanjohnson9401 you as a person shouldn’t be allowed to post to RUclips. You’re dangerous.
sounds like you’re a Disney Adult

love the longer lengths on these
This episode felt like being edged but with criticism! Like he's saying so many buckwild things about Disney pls PLEASE ask more, I'm beggingggg

Found my way here from Jim Jefferies IDKAT and I'm really enjoying this episode. Looking forward to watching the rest of 'em :)
