great box! years ago my Mother bought an "on the go" box for each of my 3 boyz at an art/craft fair. it is smaller than yours and has a slider like yours except its made for a standard clipboard and has a handle to carry it with. I still have one and use it myself all the time. Right now I have my Zentangle supplies in it and love how you can work on the top because it clips to hold your tiles/paper etc.
I love your box. Not having a handy husband or other I had a thought that when I shop at my local Goodwill outlet store (so much a pound) I often see discarded Melissa and Doug boxes that children's games came in. They are about the size and have a sliding lid with a hole in one end to pull open. Next time I shop there I will look for one to try to replicate your idea. Since I own no tools for wood working I think I could take some stiff cardboard and cut to width and glue to make dividers. Would no be removable but otherwise might work. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
I really like your holder. My granddaughter has lots of her pencils scattered around and this would definitely help her keep them organized and together. Great job on both the video and carousel
My dad was a master carpenter, he would have have really approved of your husband's work. Isn't it nice that you're both so talented in different fields. x
Hi Lindsay I am working on coming up with something to store my Prismas in while we travel in our RV. I like your box. You are indeed blessed.to have a husband who cares and supports your vice. And who is skilled in wood work. I, too, am very lucky to have a similar man as my husband of over 43 years. Anyway..Thank you for sharing. Happy coloring! Libby Smith, Albuquerque
I am so glad to see the box that your husband made. About fifty (yes FIFTY) years ago, I had an uncle who had a friend who did woodworking. All of us girls got chests with these drawers in them that are partitioned just as yours is. I never got rid of the chest because of memories...my uncle passed years ago. But, I still love this chest with the four drawers. It has been used for many things over the years...but this is such a great idea. So, now I am going to put the dividers back in and try this. Exciting!
I don't have a very big colored pencil collection, but I use containers (i.e.; those smaller sized ice cream containers, used jelly/pickle jars, those large plastic yogurt containers) to store mines. Works great!
Love it! It was so great of your hubby to make it for you. I'll have to show this to my hubby. I always get a few pencils to try out also. I send them to one of my crafty friends. JIL
We are about to have wicked snow here on the coast of Virginia. Hub is going to be off from work a few days, so now he has something else to do besides watch golf. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I fins trying to figure out how to store my pencils one of the most challenging parts of my craft room. I like having them out for easy access (and the pretty colors for inspiration!) but also worry about the leads getting damaged. i have the same issue as you did, the oddballs that make them not fit back in their original tins. I haven't found a perfect solution and don't have anyone to build one for me. I think it is great that your husband built this for you! Enjoy and let us know how it works as time goes on!
Alrighty now, THIS I really really like!! The only additions I would make for me would be a way to keep it closed (velcro band maybe?) and a handle on one of the long sides! I am impressed...in fact I think I am going to have to forward this video to my husband, and hint that my birthday is coming!! Thanks a bunch!!
Great design I may have to have my husband make me one. My husband has a wood working shop in our backyard. But he works full time at HP. I love everything you do even thou I have been crafting for over 30 yrs. (ouch!) I still learn things from you. Thank you
Thanks for the ideas! Love the box your hubby made! I'll have to get mine to make me one.. He just made me a nail polish shelf that looks great. Want me to share it? Just let me know. He made one for our three daughters for Christmas. Now all our older grand girls want one. We have 7 of those beautiful girls😃
I love your custom pencil box :) Have you decorated the lid yet? I would never be able to resist the temptation of that nice, flat surface for a bit of customizing.
I love your pencil box! So nice to have a supportive hubby! Mine would make me one, but it would have to be in the summer here in Canada! I't too cold outside and don't want sawdust in the basement! tfs
Great job on the box Mr. Frugalcrafter lol! Love it :) Now are you going to personalize it and paint a design on the top, Lindsay?? Must be nice to know someone who works with wood! Thanks for sharing!!
Hi, do you have any tutorials on blending oil based pencils I have looked up some of your videos and can't see any I would love to see how you blend pencils x
hmmm, oil pencils like polychromos? Nope but they blend as the wax ones doo. The are more transparent so you might want to stick to a lighter color paper to work on. I'll add the request to my long list:) Anything in particular?
I think I mean wax based, I have just invested in some new artist pencils, I live in the uk, most tutorials are art and I want to use mine on card and stamped images thank you for considering my request I love you videos x
Hi Lindsay, New here so I watched your video and thought to myself gee Id love to have a travel kit for all my pencils... Got any pointers as to where to look for something like it... Thank you so much Dino
Prepper Dino hmm, I think Artbin had a similar box in plastic, also try the Plano fish/tackle boxes. If you want it pretty try Creative Options, it is the artsy line of products from Plano:)
Can you recommend a pencil extender that will actually fit my Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils? Derwent's has a package of two: one large silver and one smaller black one. Neither extender will accept even a millimeter of length of my Polychromos. I figure, if anyone would know....you would. :)
Violet Verhoog Yay! He's actually making me two of them - one for Prismacolor pencils and one for my Tombow markers. The two items I have the most of. Thanks for the idea!
Wow what a nice box. My hubby does some wood working also, sounds like you know your way around the wood shop LOL I have redesigned a crayola crayon big box for mine. The box is taller and I added a base to keep it from tipping and no lid. So anyway thanks for sharing.
I use sandwich baggies to separate colors then put them in plastic pencil box or a stacking box and they transport great, & kids know not to use the ones in bags. I separate in more than 6 sections. But a great idea.
I love the Canson XL mixed media 9"x12" book because it is all around good from pencil and pastel to watercolor and even acrylic, the pages are robust and it is inexpensive. If you have a walmart or acMoore near you it is around $6
TFS, that is perfect, like Janet down below here, just if I had a husband to build it. No worries, the small town I live in, the hardware store (where everyone knows everyone), I can just make a drawing and the guys in the lumber section will cut for me. So whenever it stops snowing here (maybe in May) I will run down and have them build me one. Thanks again.. Take care, stay warm
Your SISTER HAS AN ART SUPPLY STORE????!!!??? WHAAAAAAT? wow! now I am shocked you don't have even more stuff, lol!!! family discount much? great! I wish I had a sister like that!
Lovely work - and yes, it must be wonderful to have a supportive hubby! Thank you Mr and Mrs Frugal Crafter!
Isn't it wonderful to have a supportive, handy hubby?!!!!!! Mine encourages me in all that I do! Very nice box!!!!!!
Love and Light
Vivian

Could you do a video on your early art and art memories as a kid?
A field of brightly colored flowers,to remind us that summer always comes.
Thanks for the ideas! Love the box your hubby made! I'll have to get mine to make me one.. He just made me a nail polish shelf that looks great. Want me to share it? Just let me know. I love your custom pencil box :)
Have you decorated the lid yet? I would never be able to resist the temptation of that nice, flat surface for a bit of customizing.
TinTeddyVideos I left it plain and I use it as a work surface!
At yard sales I found Pamper Chef lazy susans utensil storage- I use it for all my pens and pencils.
Lots of good ideas. I Iove the wood case storage box.
Lovely box and completely functional! I have one of those gem husbands too. Bless them all! J.
I love your pencil box! So nice to have a supportive hubby! Mine would make me one, but it would have to be in the summer here in Canada! I't too cold outside and don't want sawdust in the basement! tfs
Even your hubby is crafty that's do cool!! Diana
Great job on the box Mr. Frugalcrafter lol! Love it :) Now are you going to personalize it and paint a design on the top, Lindsay?? Must be nice to know someone who works with wood! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm not sure, I plan to stack other tins on top sometimes and the paint might scratch off, I'm just so happy to fit all my prismas in one box!
Great box! I guess your hubby really loves you:). Congrats:).

hey, whatever works:)
“Colored pencil soup” lol. Yes love your hub. His solution to the many pencils was “Isit big enough? Not ... get rid of some pencils”.
Great idea, thanks for sharing. Kudos to your husband.
I use sandwich baggies to separate colors then put them in plastic pencil box or a stacking box and they transport great, & kids know not to use the ones in bags. I separate in more than 6 sections. But a great idea.
Oh I need your hubby to make me a color pencil holder lol.
Thank you so much for showing me where to go to see this video...its perfect.
Please try pencil drawers also known as pastel drawers
I have some for pastels but I feel it makes my pencils take up too much space.
Ask your hubby if he will make me one :) I love the sliding top. TFS~Pat
I love this! And to have a supportive husband is great, too. I have one of those too.
