I didn't have that patience. I remember hiring tons of mercs and fighting QQ over and over again on the mountain capital until they lost too much manpower. Took Tabriz and released Armenia as a vassal in the end. I would rate it as the second hardest start among all achievements I've got so far. The first being Nevers having to gain independence from Burgundy and then defend against France.
It's fine if they hate you because then you are threatened by them and then the mamluks become a likely ally. Just grab some small allies since you can't get much at the start. Try to take out Shirvan and the other small nations around you. Then improve with the mamluks if you haven't already and try to ally them. Battling Ajam is very rng in either they get attacked by the timurids and then will likely end being eaten up by everyone else or they stay help destroy the Timurids. Waiting until tech 6 and then declaring is a pretty viable option. Make sure to get at least two merc stacks along with at least 10k troops, but it depends on alliances what you do.
The whole middle east needs a flavour update. Mamluks doesn't have any missions, Timurids are also lacking some flavour and even the Ottoman missions are kinda boring. They got a DLC with the Cradle of Civilization, but at the time there were no mission trees.

Awww Ardabil, i've got some good memories playing with that nation. I had one of my most exciting campaings with them with a very exciting beginning when i fought QQ together with Georgia and eventually managed to beat them.
Funnily enough, i got so lucky in my ardabil rin that i was easily able to form persia by 1480-something on my first try, but the stars really did align on that run
Safavid is one of my favourite playthroughs. Did require a few ctrl alt deletes to reload ironman saves to try and form The Guarded Domains in a historically timely fashionn
Honestly, Ardabil isn't that hard. I did the achievement 2 weeks ago with minimal issue, and then flipped Zoroastarian so I could get that achievement as well as the other Persian achievement. I also did it without QQ, and beat them when they dec'd on me less than 20 years in.
Same, found being zoroastarian to be kind of a pain though. Just sucks being the only nation following that faith. I ended up with some coalitions that I was too lazy to prevent. In my defense though, I thought my allies would do a better job than they did. Honestly, don't think I ever want to ally Poland or the commonwealth again after the poor performance they seem to pull off in every single game I play.
Just as a quick guide for anyone looking to do this themselves. You can do it without QQ, and even beat them when they dec on you less than 20 years in. You Dec on the 2 province minor that you and your ally have cores on, but don't call your ally. Rush to get both sieges, and then when your ally decs too, take your core back and vassalize the rest, so you get into a defensive war against your (former) ally. Beat him up, and then wait for Ajam to Dec on him to vassalize him too (or Ajam might declare on you), and then beat Ajam by abusing scorch earth and defensive fights on mountains. Peace out for at least your cores and the fort of Qom (and that other province between your cores and Qom), just in time for QQ to declare on you. Repeat the same strategy you just used on Ajam, and take as much land in the peace deal as possible, preferably grabbing a province that can release a vassal with some cores for your next war, such as Armenia. After that, you should be set to fight an uphill battle against the Timmies for the last provinces you need (I did it in a timeline where they kept every vassal except Transoxiana in check -- btw, break alliance with them as soon as you help them get free from the Timurids, Transoxiana is one of the worst allies you can have in the game). At that point, you should be set to form Persia, and stack a reinforcement advisor with Persia's age of Reformation ability for 66% reinforce speed, and then just go nuts. I ended up taking all of the Persian region, Arabia, Egypt, Anatolia, the Caucasus, Northwest India, a good bite of Central Asia, and Greece by the end of that campaign. I also did it without going bankrupt. For ideas, I went quantity, economic, then trade (managed to get global trade to spawn on me because Perisa is actually a pretty rich trade node), then religious (was already Zoroastarian, so it was basically a 75% AE CB on all my neighbors, and the only CB I used (besides reconquest for vassals) until imperialism). I also developed the coal Provence on the Caspian coast (I can't remember the name) to like 50 dev, and got Industrialization too.
Great video, as usual, loved it! Remember Jitnotgit in your Ethiopia to Aksum run? That was me. And btw, whenever you mention Religious War CB, you say it's the second-best, so, what's the best? Imperialism?
Can you jump back a bit and do Adal now that they have a mission tree? You skipped them because of that reason when you were establishing the conditions for the A to Z challenge.
