Pierre, you need more hands on videos around the shop. Show us stuff you do.

Pierre, enjoy your videos and glad to support you in a small way. At one point, you mention not to feed the antenna mast in so that it automatically feeds into the motor, calling it a stupid idea. I panicked at that point because I had ordered an after market mast to replace my kinked antenna on my 1976 450SL (with the smooth lead, not the toothed) thinking that I was going to have to now pull the motor out and reassemble, which I really didn't want to have to do. I tried the feed method anyway thinking what's the worst that can happen. It turned out - it was actually the easiest thing I could have ever done. The old one pushed out. I threaded the new one in so that the coil curled in the same direction - pushed it in until it stopped. Had my wife push the down button and it grabbed it immediately. It grabbed so well it surprised me and caught the skin of my thumb under the end of the antenna once it pulled down. A band-aid later I tightened the nut and was good to go. So - this method really does seem to work, at least on the R107 with the smooth lead.

I just repaired one of these circuit boards. I have found that they get wet and corrode. On my board, two transistors had 2 of 3 leads completely corroded away. I was able to buy replacement transistors from Mouser, and it is working once again! If anyone needs a rebuilt circuit board, let me know! I have one on hand, and can rebuild others.

Alright! The Hirschmann antenna was one of the 5321 things I had to repair on my car. For this job you want to use some Krytox 205 grease on the plastic gears inside. The Krytox grease will never evaporate or harden in your lifetime, so you do this job once and forget it.

Best precision grease there is. Thanks for bringing this up; it's also the recommended grease for the sunroof slides.

Hi Pierre, big fan of your work here on RUclips. My family has owned and driven a 1984 W126, 300SD since it was new in 1984. Recently we decided to have it repainted. We're waiting on the work to be finished and our guy told us today that "The only thing that isn't installed is the antenna.
It's missing a piece, the one I ordered was missing it as well." I am wondering what this is about? The antenna he is replacing is the original antenna. The motor quit when the antenna was fully up and since the radio worked we chose to leave it be until now. How can the original antenna be missing a piece. Is it possible the guy doing the work has incorrect specifications and thinks it's missing a piece that was never there? Please let me know.

Greasing the plastic gear should be part of the yearly maintenance. 👍

I just had my antenna crap out on me this week after rebuilding the plastic gear and changing the mast two years ago. What’s the best kind of lubrications to use on the plastic gear? silicone? Sunroof lube?

I'm trying to find a service to activate my phone in the c126. Fun fact.. the wood behind pierre is stained using used motor oil from Pierres favorite cars.

I'll let you know when one of my antennas crap out Pierre. I have the original 6000 in both the 380SE and 560SL. The 380's had some moisture in it, so I hope something fails on the board soon (So I can fix it).

Good Evening Pierre - Love the fact that you are willing to share your knowledge. Outstanding! and the fact that its not even your day job!! I own a 1984 300SD, after owning for 17 years a 83 300CD. Is it me or why do I feel the 300SD feels lighter than the CD? Meaning that I feed more of the road bumps etc. Does the CD have a better suspension? What can I do to improve the ride on the SD. Thanks Jeff

Unconvinced.. I've replaced two Hirschmann units in both my Audi and Mercedes-Benz with far more reliable aftermarket units. Easy to wire, they're discrete, great price, & they work! I often clean the masts, & use porpoise jaw whale oil to prevent corrosion.

I can attest to the fact that the the circuit is problematic! I bought a refurbished antenna from Becker for my 300SD.

Pierre question for you... I bought a W124 200 and the antenna was already swopped with a new non-mechanical static antenna. What antenna was originally in my car and where about should I look for one to replace this stupid wire sticking out the back of the car?? thank you in advance

Hirschmann antenna is the original antenna on W124. Your motor should still be there just the mast is in stuck position. The part number is 1248206975. Same thing with my W124 I pulled out of the junkyard.

@@chrisromanczuk1468 Thank you very much!!.. I will look up these numbers to find one. The motor and unit are all removed from my w124 200 I can just see where it was mounted. this info helps allot thank you for answering my question. :)
