  • Honolulu's recycling program will be expanding. More than just plant cuttings, grass clippings and green waste will go into green bins when the city expands its recycling effort, so will leftover food. Here's what you need to know.

I live in a small condo in a dense condominium neighborhood. We only get grey bins, but not green and blue bins, because the city doesn’t cover it.

Thank you C&C for allowing us to throw away green waste in green bins for free, then graciously allowing residents the opportunity to buy it back as compost for $75 a yard.

Need to let food waste in paper bags because the bin would rot and smell. Many states allow thin plastic bags.
    Japan is almost 100% recycling.

Is there some way items can be bagged first? That goes for gray, green and blue bins! Trash day is a mess for our neighborhood, especially if it is a windy day. On green bin days, grass clippings and leaves end up blowing back onto the street. On blue bin days, it's small cardboard and paper napkins/plates. On gray bin days, it's plastic wrapping, styrofoam, and just the other day, my next door neighbor apparently dumped shredded paper, half of which ended up in my yard.

It would be nice if they could make that compost more readily available, than driving to god knows where the pick up location is. And at a cheaper rate for the local people so we can put the compost back into our land. I would love to get good compost and add it into my garden!! The bagged stuff is so costly nowdays, really gotta budget as to how much I can use in my garden.

What brand is the compost sold as? Menehune Magic?
What ever it is would be nice if it were cheaper than compost shipped here.

So how much is this going to cost the people???? Are they going to raise taxes again???? Is this another way they are going to justify charging us for trash pick up???? Every time the gooberment does anything that they say is good for us, it ends up costing us more, and never ever delivers what is promised.

Rolling black outs, high crime, high taxes, decreasing working age population and high prices. This is what your government in Hawaii is giving you.

Hope when they allow food waste, they can take chicken and other animal bones. Table top food composters can handle that. I go through 1 Costco rotisserie chicken a week. ❤
