Chiyo (a mf who was ready to jump the white fang on sight) and Kimmimaro; a guy with the actual most broken kekkei genkai around, and who fought Garra and Lee at the same time and still would’ve won. Mifune is far from fodder. That guy pulled up on Hanzo and announced “no more jutsu will be cast while I’m here.” And then actually stopped 3 S+ class shinobi from using hand signs literally until Itachi released the edo tensei.
Okay Itachi himself told us that kotoamatsukami can be used once every 10 years unless you have cells of hashirama so it's very clear for us that that was the only reason he could use it in few days

For context, the reason that Hashirama’s cells help with Sharingan bs is the same reason that Madara managed to awaken the Rinnegan, because Hashirama was one of the strongest Senju. And the Senju and Uchiha are literally the same clan but they each inherited a different half of their ancestors power.

Both of his eyes are for kotoamatsukami. It’s like Óbitos Kamui. One is for his own personal space and one is for long range spaces. I’ve heard a theory that Kamui is spatial and Kotoamatsukami is time based. Being what he used of the Lord of Iron he needs eye contact and it only lasts as long as he needs it to, whereas the eye ItaChi has makes the person do what the caster wants regardless of how long it takes to achieve said goal and eye contact isn’t necessarily a constant. Like when Itachi used it to break out of Edo Tensei or when he was gonna use it on Sasuke to “protect Konoha”
The problem with Kakashi's Sharingan being for long range spaces is that Madara used it to teleport himself to the pocket dimension. So either that isn't thr ability of Kakashi's Sharingan, or it's a plothole.
Actually an Uchiha can either get 2 eyes of insight or 2 eyes of hypnotism or 1 of both, so Shisui got 2 eyes of Hypnosis thus only having Genjutsu and Obito getting 2 eyes of Insight thus only having Kamui in both eyes while Itachi got one of both Insight being Amaterasu and hypnotism being Tsukuyomi. Madara even said it is better to have one of both. And again even if u have the same eyes the abilities can be different like in Shisuis eyes one had a powerful Kotoamatsukami (Itachi's) and the other had a weaker one(Danzo)
@@No1_1no actually that literally had limits. Kamui isn't quick enough. It have limits in usage time. And it can't be used while in close combat as it takes time to cast. And against Konan he literally died and resurrected which means his teleportation or dimension travel doesn't removed a tag or a paper bomb. Which also means Amaterasu could also work as it affect body to burn. In these cases he have to use Izanagi which takes one eye for each resurrection. The only reason Tobi kept doing it is because he had many eyes available like danzo
Shisui's right eye, that Danzo ripped out, causes a person to speak and believe the words implanted by the Sharingan-user. The left eye works differently by implanting a command that someone has to live by, such as Protect Konoha. They are both Kotoamatsukami in the same way both of Obito's eyes are Kamui.
Mifune didn't break out of the jutsu. The whole point is that the jutsu implants an idea in someone's head and mifune was just like "well now that i know you implanted that idea we can't trust it"

There's two types of genjutsu, mind altering and ones that affect the 5 senses and as a result, disrupt chakra flow to the brain. Kotoamatsukami is a mind altering genjutsu. I believe that shisui had two kotoamatsukami's one in each eye, the one Itachi used cannot be sensed by byugkan and cannot be stopped. The one by danzo is a less permanent mind altering genjutsu that persuades someone in the moment to change their mind.

I kinda agree with that because shisui and itachi planned to use the genjitsu on the whole uchiha clan to prevent coup d'etat. And hashirama cells prevents the seeling/blindness of eyes which we saw in the case of obito.
sad how Danzo was then like, I don't like that plan, and wanted to do things in a way that ends up making the clan looks like the clear villains in the story (manipulate media to avoid having his political power challenged)
It is because Shisui was over-powered and this is all a big part of his plan to become Hokage because we are under Kotoamatsukami. Also..she has twin sons named Daici and Docai.
Since the eye was Shisui’s biologically and the ability was literally made into him, I doubt that he could only use Kotoamatsukami every 10 years. I think it only applies to people outside of Shisui/foreign to the eye. And the only person who could’ve gotten around this was Danzo, as the Hashirama cells were able cut the delay to a few times daily.
Low key makes sense. Obitos 2 eyes had somewhat similar abilities or linked abilities being his pocket dimension and the eye Kakashi had could teleport things to another dimension. So his eyes could also have a stronger and weaker ability that is somewhat similar
The way shisui’s mangekyo ability works is kind of similar to the way obito’s does. In the same sense there are two ways to use the kotosmatsukami: an extremely powerful genjutsu that will trap anyone into doing as you command and they will believe they’re doing it of their own accord despite knowing they are in a genjutsu; and a more subtle version of the jutsu which can be used on multiple people at once for a co-ordinated take over. The difference with this version is that it can be broken easier, as shown with danzo. I like to think about it like it’s a charged ability, the more energy used will be a greater effect but at the cost of a longer cool-down
It would make sense if Shisui basically had the same ability in both eyes. One is a stronger and permanent effect that has a drastically longer cool down. The other is much weaker and needs to be a person within vision however it can be used much more frequently. Danzo could have just gotten the eye with the weaker version that’s able to be used more often.
@Cory Brooks I think he was just trying to say that Shisui could take it a step further than the average person normally could or activate it at a level stronger than what most could. I might just be misunderstanding him though. I feel like there is a lot to Shisui character that we just never got to actually learn due to him being killed off so early and then possibly them deciding not to explore his character more. The way he is referred to by other characters in the canon lore makes it seem like Shisui definitely had a few different tricks up his sleeve that set him apart from the rest.
If we’re assuming Kishimoto isn’t just a bad writer who makes plot holes all the time, then there has to be 2 versions of Kotoamatsukami. The version that Itachi was under that has a 10 year cooldown and the version Mifune was under that has an unknown, much shorter cooldown. The difference is Subtlety vs Blatant manipulation. Itachi was fully aware he was under genjutsu and under Kabuto’s mind control yet it didn’t matter, he was forced to “Protect Konoha” because that’s what Kotoamatsukami told him to do. Mifune had no idea he was under genjutsu and if it weren’t for Ao’s Byakugan sussing out Danzo’s Sharingan, nobody would’ve known the jutsu was being used. Mifune was acting completely normal as far as anybody, including himself could tell. However the second someone told him that he was being controlled, he broke out. By the logic of the story, Shisui has to have 2 different versions of Kotoamatsukami because the story doesn’t make sense otherwise.

Not only does this line up with how Mangekyo Sharingan have worked in the past and future, this is also the only way the story makes sense because if they were the exact same jutsu, how did Mifune break out of Kotoamatsukami by someone telling him he was under genjutsu meanwhile Itachi is literally explaining how the jutsu works and he's still forced to follow it's commands? It's simple, Itachi has the 10 year cooldown version that we were told about, and Danzo has a shorter cooldown version that can be broken out of. Even if you believe Danzo's hashirama cells lowered the cooldown for whatever reason, it still doesn't make sense that the cells also nerfed his sharingan's strength.

He had konoamatsukami in both of his eyes and one eye he could use it once in 10yrs and the other one (wich danzo stole) he could use it like every 20hrs bcs danzo mentioned in the 5 kage summit that he couldnt use konoamatsukami many times inna DAY
One is used to persuade an individual into doing your command which can be broken through a bit of will. while the other forces the command to be done, complete domination which shows it to be why it seals itself for 10years.
I think shisui can use it frequently because after using it on hidden mist shinobi ( in the forest during his mission ) he was planning to use it on fugaku. It seems original can use it many times just like other uchiha's sharingan ( afterall all it is a sharingan, so it must have to function in same way just like others sharingan do).
My personal theory is that one of shisui's eyes has the kotoamatsukami that takes ten years to recharge, but it can't be broken, and the person will not know their being influenced, while the other can be used multiple times a day but while the person affected doesn't realize they are being affected anyone outside can break them out
The only problem with this is that Itachi was fully aware of the fact that he was under the effects of Kotoamatsukami. The genjutsu was so powerful that it broke him free of the Kabuto’s mind control and forced him to “Protect Konoha” which meant he had to stop Kabuto. I do agree though that this was probably the 10 year jutsu that was getting hyped in the story and Danzo probably just got the bad one because the second Mifune found out he was under Kotoamatsukami he immediately broke out. It was a subtle influence as opposed to the blatant command Itachi was given

Ao calls out Danzo, explains that his right eye is the same as Shisui's right eye and that Mifune has been placed under mind control, there's a panel of Mifune looking shook, his speech bubble is literally him going "!?" and then that's the last we ever hear of it. There is no panel of Danzo lifting the jutsu. After this scene, Mifune is 100% on everybody's side and actively works with the Shinobi Alliance under Gaara's leadership despite saying that Gaara is unfit to be the leader while under genjutsu. In the anime the scene of Mifune "breaking out of the genjutsu" is much more overt, but we don't need it to prove that they're different jutsu. We can use Manga resources to prove that they are different jutsu. In the manga, it is shown that Danzo does not need eye contact to use Kotoamatsukami, this is a fact since Ao demanded Danzo to reveal his eye and nobody has ever known prior to then that he had a Sharingan. This is important because when Itachi got hit by Kotoamatsukami, the Crow looked him directly in the eyes after Itachi forcefully activated it. The Crow NEEDED to appear or else it wouldn't have worked. Chapter 549/559. However you spin it, the ways these two eyes activated Kotoamatsukami is completely different. The only argument you could make that they're the same jutsu is that Danzo's version fell off for some reason after he died which doesn't line up with what we were told about the jutsu but I can't exactly prove it otherwise either. That wasn't the argument you made though, you said Danzo lifted the jutsu which is 100% false, we were never shown that in the anime or manga so you don't know what you're talking about more than I do.

it’s actually a theory that shushing has 2 versions of kotoamatsukami, one that is weaker(the eye danzo got) and has less downtime, and the stronger(the one in the crow), that is very strong and has a lot of downtime. the stronger one put itachi in a genjutsu that he knew he was under and it still worked, and the weaker one that you can counteract by realizing you are under genjutsu.
Shisui has koto in both of his eyes, and they are both of equal strength. The reason Danzo could use his koto more often was due to hashirama’s cells. Additionally, the reason it could be broken out of is because koto can be broken out of as long as someone is able to recognize that you’re under it. A similar example would be the genjutsu obito used on Yagura. Now that’s not saying Koto isn’t strong. It’s just that when Itachi used it on himself, nobody had the desire or possibly the capabilities to break him out of Koto, which doesn’t mean it’s stronger, it just means that Itachi used it in the right circumstances, while Danzo did not. Also, the Koto danzo used wasn’t broken by fodder. It took Ao, a hero in the village hidden in the mist, former Anbu of the Hunter-Nin, the Right Hand of the Mizukage, and nicknamed “Byakugan killer” due to having a byakugan without being a hyuuga(which is quite literally one of Konoha’s most prized possessions), to detect and break Mifune out of Koto. The Koto that Danzo had is not a weakened version, it’s just that the reason he could use it several times was due to him having Hashirama’s cells, and that he simply used it in the wrong situation.

I read a theory that the eye Danzo had could implant thought extremely subtly in the victims mind and the eye Itachi had could just completely brainwash someone but they will be aware of it like how Itachi knew about it while he was under it but it still worked. Then by using both eyes at the same time Shisui had both complete control over the victim and it could be done without the target ever knowing- which is what he wanted to do with the Uchiha coup
So I see it like this... The eye that Danzo took contains the Genjutsu power of Suggestion. Once under its power, its victim is easily swayed by the user and they find nearly everything they say as agreeable. This is why Danzo used it at the Kage Summit, and attempted to make the other Kage more agreeable to his suggestions. The power of Suggestion does not require eye contact, can be used often, is not detectable without visual awareness, is not permanent, and is broken by the victim being made aware of it. The eye entrusted to Itachi contained the Genjutsu power of Kotoamatsukami. Kotoamatsukami works by its user implanting a thought into the mind of its victim. Kotoamatsukami then creates an entire 'false' reality (thoughts, feelings, emotions, experiences) to make the original thought as real as possible in the victims mind. Real to the degree that the 'false' reality becomes the victims new existential reality. For example. If Itachi used Kotoamatsukami on Naruto and implanted the thought that he was an Uchiha, Naruto would existentially be an Uchiha in his mind, and have no memories, or experiences of being anything other than an Uchiha. He had kotoamatsukami in both eyes... we know this because Danzo had it in his and Itachi also had it in his crow. The reason Danzo's attempt with it against Mifune broke was because he gave up. Once Ao pointed out that it was being used itd be pretty stupid to keep doing it in a room of people who can kill you or campaign a war against you. Plus if they already know, then obviously Mifune no longer served as a useful pawn in the situation since nobody would have acknowledged him as a proper referee at that point. Best to just let him go and behave. Danzo for the most part is a pretty calculating man after all he wouldnt stir the pot in away that revealed him unless he needed to. Besides all he did was betray their trust to try and take charge of the situation, pretty bad but still plausible to talk your way out of. As for why he could use it more often than shisui, i guess its not confirmed but since Obito could also spam kamui without going blind I assume its because of hashirama cells which they both share. Its not guaranteed of course but it seems the most likely. Maybe we'll get a real answer someday.
They do seem to be different though. For example Danzo's doesn't seem to require eye contact and doesn't seem as strong (or maybe it just takes longer to active like you said). While the one in the crow only needed brief direct eye contact to completely negate kabutos control.

But I dont think it takes longer to activate, I was saying it looks pretty clear that danzo just turned it off. If he hadnt, the situation would have only gotten worse for him. So I'm not sure there is a clear difference. I mean even Ao who has first hand experience with the technique recognized it at a moments notice. I wont say its impossible but given all the facts and evidence that exist on the topic it seems extremely unlikely.

Each eye had a variation of the same ability like obito and his kamui, the exact differences are unknown. It's also definitely explained that the reason is takes so long to activate is because of the corresponding cost of such a strong ability, which is why hashiramas cells allow it to be used quicker, since his cells have a regenerative effect on the whole body, even going as far as getting rid of the need to eat or drink.
Same way Obito had 2 different Kamui powers, I think Shisui had Kotoamatsukami in both eyes but had different abilities. Koto is a genjutsu that allows you to manipulate someone without them knowing. The eye Itachi took can leave a permanent new 'truth' in a person to permanently alter them. The eye Danzo stole actively manipulates one's ideas while they are in your presence. This has always been how I've made sense of this in my mind.
The ten year thing only applies to the crow, if you read the light novels, Shisui does it once when he was eight, once when he was about 14, and was able to do it again at 16
Shisui’s koto is just as easy to break out of as any genjutsu but it’s just harder for them to realize but with them having a byakuguan user there he was easily able to identify that it was used and stop it
From what I recall his right eye doesn’t need eye contact and it’s subtle genjustu and his left eye is the hardcore one that gave itachi the command “protect the leaf village” and that’s why he didn’t stop when sasuke was chasing him. He wanted to use it on sasuke if he can in contact with Naruto to destroy the village

Each eye has kotoamatsukami. The eye that Danzo stole has Kotoamatsukami that can be used frequently with the tradeoff of being easier to break out of. The very mechanics of the jutsu are identical to those in Shisui's other eye that Itachi obtained. This eye, though has a very potent genjutsu useable once in a blue moon.
Nah this guys got it wrong as hell period in the vid, itachi said it was usable once every 10 years in a crow that was detached from an actual body able to handle the jutsu. I promise shisui could use a potent genjutsu more than once every 10 years. Never did shisui ever say he could only use it once every 10 years, Danzo being able to use it ONCE (as he said in the summit) was proof enough if you had a body capable of handling the eye, it could use the jutsu. Although no doubt not as strongly as shisui himself could use it

No. Kotoamatsukami only has one ability. Both cannot be broken out of. Danzo willingly lifted the genjutsu off of Mifune after getting caught. This is literally in the manga. Itachi states that Kotoamatsukami, as in the ability itself, can only be used every 10 years. This includes the crow, Itachi (if he had it), and even Shisui. He also states that the only way to reduce this is by having Hashirama cells. This is the reason why Danzo has a shorter cooldown. So, again, Kotoamatsukami only has one ability with the same strength and weaknesses.
Okay so let me break this down for everyone. Shisui did have different abilities in both of his eyes but their names were same because kishimoto was lazy to give it another name. Both the abilities are pretty similar so people usually think of them as same. But the eye that danzo stole from shisui had a temporary genjutsu. Like you can control the person temporarily and it requires constant line of sight. But the eye which the crow (itachi's crow) had was the permanent one. That eye can permanently change the target's memories and intentions. There is no need for any line of sight just a glimpse is enough. And one more important thing which is the cooldown duration. The temporary one has very low cooldown like a day or less but the permanent one has a cooldown of 10 years no matter what cells you use and that bigass cooldown makes that broken ability very fair

The fodder was the strongest samurai who was able to take on Hanzo. The genjutsu was just revealed to have been used which technically broke it as one of its main attributes is the victim having no idea they’re in a genjutsu. Sometimes MS gives same power in both eyes but with different attributes, like Kamui With the cooldown time hashirama cells decrease that time.
The theory is that both eyes are the same power but work differently much like obito’s eyes. The one danzo got one the weak one that could be broken while the one itatchi got one the permanent one that is unbreakable.

it could be one of two things, the first is that as said in the vid, the other eye allowxs you to use koto more frequently, but unlikely because shisui could probably use it often anyway thanks to the fact he was the original owner of the eyes. second, his other ability could be "body flicker" which was his ability to like multiply his speed against his body or smth idk this ability doesn't have much info but it allowed him to make afterimages, moving afterimages, and very high speeds close to if not teleportation.

However using both essentially of Shisui's eyes allows the effect to become stronger or even affect more people. Remember Shisui states he couldn't put the entire Uchiha clan under his genjustu anymore once Danzo took one of his eyes indicating he needed both to use it to it's fullest capabilities to put the entire Uchiha Clan under his genjustu.

People see the 10 years statement out of context. Shisui could definitely use kotoamatsukami as much as itachi used tsukuyomi. Kishimoto wouldn't make such a power having a 10 year cool down for the original users signature ability. Itachi said it could only be used every 10 years because in context, a crow was using it. As per my understanding both of shisui's eye abilities are revealed. Shisui ability 1 kotoamasukami. Later donated the eye to itachi.kotoamasukami is the ability to manipulate someone without them knowing it. Like manipulating sasuke to protect the leaf. Its something like izanami with cooldown of 10 yrs. Shisui ability 2 Not clear. But it is mentioned when the guy with bakugan from mist tells his teammates to run when they encounter shisui's squad. He tells that shisui could torture a person with their worst nightmare.So its something like a tsukuyomi.
Koto-amatsukami rewrited the person's reality, but if someone with a byakugan or sharingan sees that the Chakra flow of the person it was cast in is altertered then they can still break them free. The hard part is having someone around who can see the manipulated chakra network

MS, gives user one or more abilities, Madara has 1 MS ability (susanoo), obito also has 1 (kamui) Shisui 2 (Kotoamatsukami and susano), Sasuke has 2 (Amaterasu and susanoo) and Itachi has 3 (Amaterasu, tsukuyomi and susanoo). Danzo was using Kotoamatsukami often because of Senju DNA which lowers the Cooldown, also AO didn't broke the genjutsu he just detected that Danzo had Shisui's eye and that he was using some jutsu via that eye, so he concluded correctly that danzo was using kotoamatsukami.
From what I saw when watching Naruto, I think Amaterasu and Susano'o are mandatory abilities of the Mangekyou. Also, from what I could see, it seems that every Uchiha has an unique ability. Obito had Kamui, Itachi Tsukyomi, and Sasuke has the ability to control the Amaterasu flames at will, which is an ability I don't remember no one else having. Also, maybe the final version of Kotoamatsukami is only achieved while using both eyes.
Those are two different powers. Both are hypnosis, one is more sugestive and easier to break, but can be cast often, other can give you absolute control of someone, even if tgey realize they are under genjutsu, but has long cooldown.

The way I understand it it's this way: The eye Danzo had could influence the decisionmaking/judgement of a person temporarily while the jutsu is active. A kind of "Yeah, actually that guy is right!" deal. The eye Itachi got is more: "I'm gonna place this order on you. Have fun doing that stuff until you die"
it could be that the information on the eyes limitation was a Deception you know like a ninja would do which would explain why itachi destroyed the eye after it freed him can’t risk a particular someone getting that busted ability in the middle of the war and using it.
my rationalization has always been this: danzou isn't the actual owner of shisui's eye so he experiences a situation similar to kakashi with obito's eye, where he's just not able to make as effective use of the eye as shisui could. kakashi's MS uses a huge amount of chakra, and starting out, kakashi could only use it once or twice before having to retire. (this changed by the end of the show for plot convenience.) danzo probably isn't able to use kotoamastukami as effectively as shisui, which means strong opponents who've caught onto the fact that they're in a genjutsu may just be able to break out of it. i also think that danzo took the eye containing the "weaker" form of kotoamatsukami, which when weilded by shisui could most likely be used on a daily-ish basis; his other eye being the more powerful of the two with a longer cool-down period. as far as i'm aware there is no hard proof that shisui, himself, would have to wait ten years to use his powers after activation. the only person who seems to be inhibited by this for sure was itachi using the eye. moreover, itachi didn't even have a human using the eye - just a bird made of some of his chakra, which if i had to guess is even weaker of a host than danzo. the hashirama cells probably allowed danzo to use shisui's eye with some regularity. i would imagine without hashirama's cells grafted onto his body that danzo probably would be able to use a weak kotoamatsukami once per week, roughly, and that shisui using the same eye could probably do it daily. as to the stronger, ten-year-eye, i just have a hard time accepting that kishimoto would knowingly give any power to a character with a cool-down as crazy as this. i have no basis for saying this but i feel like shisui using the stronger eye probably could use the stronger kotoamatsukami once every month, or six months, or something. ten years just seems flatly ridiculous. however, this is all pure speculation.
Actually it was never said that SHISUI could you use it every ten years. It was the people that used his eyes afterwards that couldn't use it without the 10 years drawback. Although it is unconfirmed, shisui most likely could use it regularly like any other MG
It's the implanted sharingans. The sharingan need lots of chakra to be stored before it could be used. Well in Danzo's case , the jutsu from the eye stolen from Shisui needs immensely more chakra which is why it could be used only about 10 years apart. Danzo can use it little by little because the chakra is divided between all the sharingan he transplanted into himself. Those are clones of Shisui's eye and all are storing chakra which is why the use is so short lived. He thought he uncovered a secret and improved the technique but in reality he made is slower and weaker. If he kept only 1 and had other 3 as backup then he would indeed become really powerful. But he overdid it because he was obsessed for more power and control over the Leaf.
I wouldnt be suprised if the whole Senju clan bloodline was just genetically close to Hagoromo to where they cells like regen chakra faster, and really taxing Justus are barely a struggle in comparison to other Justus. But hashirama being the peak of the clan

I also know that shsui 2nd eye being stolen by donzo was NEVER COMFRIED, unlike the eye itahi was given by Shsui himself. Last we know was shsui killed himself before his eye could be taken. I mean it makes sense. Sasuke had the ability to create and snuff out amaterasu so having both eye abilities be relatee to each other isn't a stretch. Having one eye be usable more often with the other being far more potent makes complete sense if you ask me.

For context, the reason that Hashirama’s cells help with Sharingan bs is the same reason that Madara managed to awaken the Rinnegan, because Hashirama was one of the strongest Senju. Both of his eyes are for kotoamatsukami. It’s like Óbitos Kamui. One is for his own personal space and one is for long range spaces. I’ve heard a theory that Kamui is spatial and Kotoamatsukami is time based. Being what he used of the Lord of Iron he needs eye contact and it only lasts as long as he needs it to, whereas the eye ItaChi has makes the person do what the caster wants regardless of how long it takes to achieve said goal and eye contact isn’t necessarily a constant. Like when Itachi used it to break out of Edo Tensei or when he was gonna use it on Sasuke to “protect Konoha”

Shisui's right eye, that Danzo ripped out, causes a person to speak and believe the words implanted by the Sharingan-user. The left eye works differently by implanting a command that someone has to live by, such as Protect Konoha. They are both Kotoamatsukami in the same way both of Obito's eyes are Kamui.

There's two types of genjutsu, mind altering and ones that affect the 5 senses and as a result, disrupt chakra flow to the brain. Kotoamatsukami is a mind altering genjutsu. I believe that shisui had two kotoamatsukami's one in each eye, the one Itachi used cannot be sensed by byugkan and cannot be stopped. The one by danzo is a less permanent mind altering genjutsu that persuades someone in the moment to change their mind.

Since the eye was Shisui’s biologically and the ability was literally made into him, I doubt that he could only use Kotoamatsukami every 10 years. I think it only applies to people outside of Shisui/foreign to the eye. And the only person who could’ve gotten around this was Danzo, as the Hashirama cells were able cut the delay to a few times daily.

Danzo has hashirama cells so it makes sense that he can use the eye ability multiple times.
The way shisui’s mangekyo ability works is kind of similar to the way obito’s does. In the same sense there are two ways to use the kotosmatsukami: an extremely powerful genjutsu that will trap anyone into doing as you command and they will believe they’re doing it of their own accord despite knowing they are in a genjutsu; and a more subtle version of the jutsu which can be used on multiple people at once for a co-ordinated take over. The difference with this version is that it can be broken easier, as shown with danzo.
I like to think about it like it’s a charged ability, the more energy used will be a greater effect but at the cost of a longer cool-down
It would make sense if Shisui basically had the same ability in both eyes. One is a stronger and permanent effect that has a drastically longer cool down. The other is much weaker and needs to be a person within vision however it can be used much more frequently. Danzo could have just gotten the eye with the weaker version that’s able to be used more often.

@Cory Brooks I think he was just trying to say that Shisui could take it a step further than the average person normally could or activate it at a level stronger than what most could. I might just be misunderstanding him though. I feel like there is a lot to Shisui character that we just never got to actually learn due to him being killed off so early and then possibly them deciding not to explore his character more. The way he is referred to by other characters in the canon lore makes it seem like Shisui definitely had a few different tricks up his sleeve that set him apart from the rest.

If we’re assuming Kishimoto isn’t just a bad writer who makes plot holes all the time, then there has to be 2 versions of Kotoamatsukami.
The version that Itachi was under that has a 10 year cooldown and the version Mifune was under that has an unknown, much shorter cooldown. The difference is Subtlety vs Blatant manipulation.
Itachi was fully aware he was under genjutsu and under Kabuto’s mind control yet it didn’t matter, he was forced to “Protect Konoha” because that’s what Kotoamatsukami told him to do.
Mifune had no idea he was under genjutsu and if it weren’t for Ao’s Byakugan sussing out Danzo’s Sharingan, nobody would’ve known the jutsu was being used. Mifune was acting completely normal as far as anybody, including himself could tell. However the second someone told him that he was being controlled, he broke out.

Not only does this line up with how Mangekyo Sharingan have worked in the past and future, this is also the only way the story makes sense because if they were the exact same jutsu, how did Mifune break out of Kotoamatsukami by someone telling him he was under genjutsu meanwhile Itachi is literally explaining how the jutsu works and he's still forced to follow it's commands?
It's simple, Itachi has the 10 year cooldown version that we were told about, and Danzo has a shorter cooldown version that can be broken out of.

I think shisui can use it frequently because after using it on hidden mist shinobi ( in the forest during his mission ) he was planning to use it on fugaku. It seems original can use it many times just like other uchiha's sharingan ( afterall all it is a sharingan, so it must have to function in same way just like others sharingan do).

The only problem with this is that Itachi was fully aware of the fact that he was under the effects of Kotoamatsukami. The genjutsu was so powerful that it broke him free of the Kabuto’s mind control and forced him to “Protect Konoha” which meant he had to stop Kabuto.
I do agree though that this was probably the 10 year jutsu that was getting hyped in the story and Danzo probably just got the bad one because the second Mifune found out he was under Kotoamatsukami he immediately broke out. It was a subtle influence as opposed to the blatant command Itachi was given

Naruto chapter 459. Ao calls out Danzo, explains that his right eye is the same as Shisui's right eye and that Mifune has been placed under mind control, there's a panel of Mifune looking shook, his speech bubble is literally him going "!?" and then that's the last we ever hear of it.
There is no panel of Danzo lifting the jutsu. After this scene, Mifune is 100% on everybody's side and actively works with the Shinobi Alliance under Gaara's leadership despite saying that Gaara is unfit to be the leader while under genjutsu.
In the anime the scene of Mifune "breaking out of the genjutsu" is much more overt, but we don't need it to prove that they're different jutsu. We can use Manga resources to prove that they are different jutsu.
In the manga, it is shown that Danzo does not need eye contact to use Kotoamatsukami, this is a fact since Ao demanded Danzo to reveal his eye and nobody has ever known prior to then that he had a Sharingan. This is important because when Itachi got hit by Kotoamatsukami, the Crow looked him directly in the eyes after Itachi forcefully activated it. The Crow NEEDED to appear or else it wouldn't have worked. Chapter 549/559.
However you spin it, the ways these two eyes activated Kotoamatsukami is completely different.
The only argument you could make that they're the same jutsu is that Danzo's version fell off for some reason after he died which doesn't line up with what we were told about the jutsu but I can't exactly prove it otherwise either. it’s actually a theory that shushing has 2 versions of kotoamatsukami, one that is weaker(the eye danzo got) and has less downtime, and the stronger(the one in the crow), that is very strong and has a lot of downtime. the stronger one put itachi in a genjutsu that he knew he was under and it still worked, and the weaker one that you can counteract by realizing you are under genjutsu.

Shisui has koto in both of his eyes, and they are both of equal strength.
The reason Danzo could use his koto more often was due to hashirama’s cells. Additionally, the reason it could be broken out of is because koto can be broken out of as long as someone is able to recognize that you’re under it. A similar example would be the genjutsu obito used on Yagura.
Now that’s not saying Koto isn’t strong. It’s just that when Itachi used it on himself, nobody had the desire or possibly the capabilities to break him out of Koto, which doesn’t mean it’s stronger, it just means that Itachi used it in the right circumstances, while Danzo did not.
Also, the Koto danzo used wasn’t broken by fodder. It took Ao, a hero in the village hidden in the mist, former Anbu of the Hunter-Nin, the Right Hand of the Mizukage, and nicknamed “Byakugan killer” due to having a byakugan without being a hyuuga(which is quite literally one of Konoha’s most prized possessions), to detect and break Mifune out of Koto. The Koto that Danzo had is not a weakened version, it’s just that the reason he could use it several times was due to him having Hashirama’s cells, and that he simply used it in the wrong situation.

I read a theory that the eye Danzo had could implant thought extremely subtly in the victims mind and the eye Itachi had could just completely brainwash someone but they will be aware of it like how Itachi knew about it while he was under it but it still worked.

The eye that Danzo took contains the Genjutsu power of Suggestion. Once under its power, its victim is easily swayed by the user and they find nearly everything they say as agreeable. This is why Danzo used it at the Kage Summit, and attempted to make the other Kage more agreeable to his suggestions. The power of Suggestion does not require eye contact, can be used often, is not detectable without visual awareness, is not permanent, and is broken by the victim being made aware of it.

No. It’s the same ability. This is stated in the manga, anime, databooks, and even the novels. Nowhere, in any of those, is it even hinting of there being two different versions.
He had kotoamatsukami in both eyes... we know this because Danzo had it in his and Itachi also had it in his crow. The reason Danzo's attempt with it against Mifune broke was because he gave up. Once Ao pointed out that it was being used itd be pretty stupid to keep doing it in a room of people who can kill you or campaign a war against you. Plus if they already know, then obviously Mifune no longer served as a useful pawn in the situation since nobody would have acknowledged him as a proper referee at that point. Best to just let him go and behave. Danzo for the most part is a pretty calculating man after all he wouldnt stir the pot in away that revealed him unless he needed to. Besides all he did was betray their trust to try and take charge of the situation, pretty bad but still plausible to talk your way out of.
As for why he could use it more often than shisui, i guess its not confirmed but since Obito could also spam kamui without going blind I assume its because of hashirama cells which they both share. Its not guaranteed of course but it seems the most likely. Maybe we'll get a real answer someday.
They do seem to be different though. For example Danzo's doesn't seem to require eye contact and doesn't seem as strong (or maybe it just takes longer to active like you said). While the one in the crow only needed brief direct eye contact to completely negate kabutos control.

But I dont think it takes longer to activate, I was saying it looks pretty clear that danzo just turned it off. If he hadnt, the situation would have only gotten worse for him. So I'm not sure there is a clear difference. I mean even Ao who has first hand experience with the technique recognized it at a moments notice. I wont say its impossible but given all the facts and evidence that exist on the topic it seems extremely unlikely.

Had he known about Ao's byakugan he likely would never have used kotoamatsukami at all. It may be an unbreakable jutsu but that doesnt mean the user cant just stop using it
Itatchi states in the manga that only a person with Hashirama cells can use it more often.
Each eye had a variation of the same ability like obito and his kamui, the exact differences are unknown. It's also definitely explained that the reason is takes so long to activate is because of the corresponding cost of such a strong ability, which is why hashiramas cells allow it to be used quicker, since his cells have a regenerative effect on the whole body, even going as far as getting rid of the need to eat or drink.
Same way Obito had 2 different Kamui powers, I think Shisui had Kotoamatsukami in both eyes but had different abilities.

Shisui’s koto is just as easy to break out of as any genjutsu but it’s just harder for them to realize but with them having a byakuguan user there he was easily able to identify that it was used and stop it

Each eye has kotoamatsukami. The eye that Danzo stole has Kotoamatsukami that can be used frequently with the tradeoff of being easier to break out of. The very mechanics of the jutsu are identical to those in Shisui's other eye that Itachi obtained. This eye, though has a very potent genjutsu useable once in a blue moon.

Never did shisui ever say he could only use it once every 10 years, Danzo being able to use it ONCE (as he said in the summit) was proof enough if you had a body capable of handling the eye, it could use the jutsu. No. Kotoamatsukami only has one ability. Both cannot be broken out of. Danzo willingly lifted the genjutsu off of Mifune after getting caught. This is literally in the manga. Itachi states that Kotoamatsukami, as in the ability itself, can only be used every 10 years. This includes the crow, Itachi (if he had it), and even Shisui. He also states that the only way to reduce this is by having Hashirama cells. This is the reason why Danzo has a shorter cooldown. So, again, Kotoamatsukami only has one ability with the same strength and weaknesses.
Okay so let me break this down for everyone. Shisui did have different abilities in both of his eyes but their names were same because kishimoto was lazy to give it another name. Both the abilities are pretty similar so people usually think of them as same. But the eye that danzo stole from shisui had a temporary genjutsu. Like you can control the person temporarily and it requires constant line of sight. But the eye which the crow (itachi's crow) had was the permanent one. That eye can permanently change the target's memories and intentions. There is no need for any line of sight just a glimpse is enough. And one more important thing which is the cooldown duration. The temporary one has very low cooldown like a day or less but the permanent one has a cooldown of 10 years no matter what cells you use and that bigass cooldown makes that broken ability very fair

The fodder was the strongest samurai who was able to take on Hanzo. The genjutsu was just revealed to have been used which technically broke it as one of its main attributes is the victim having no idea they’re in a genjutsu.

it could be one of two things, the first is that as said in the vid, the other eye allowxs you to use koto more frequently, but unlikely because shisui could probably use it often anyway thanks to the fact he was the original owner of the eyes. second, his other ability could be "body flicker" which was his ability to like multiply his speed against his body or smth idk this ability doesn't have much info but it allowed him to make afterimages, moving afterimages, and very high speeds close to if not teleportation.
There is two versions of KOTOAMATSUKAMI. One is a weaker version and the other is the stronger counterpart. The eye Danzo stole was the right eye which had the weaker version, the Genjutsu of that version can be broken if someone tells you that you are under Genjutsu. Remember when Ao told everyone in the five kage summit about Danzo using Genjutsu on Mifune, at an instant Mifune broke out of it. And the left eye of Shisui possesses the stronger version which Shisui saved from Danzo by using Susanoo and gave it to Itachi. Both of them are kotoamatsukami. Similar to how Obito has two Kamui's incept that the two kamui's have different performances. However using both essentially of Shisui's eyes allows the effect to become stronger or even affect more people. Remember Shisui states he couldn't put the entire Uchiha clan under his genjustu anymore once Danzo took one of his eyes indicating he needed both to use it to it's fullest capabilities to put the entire Uchiha Clan under his genjustu.

The Samurai didn't broke the genjutsu. After Ao reveal that Danzou was controlling him, Danzou stoped the Kotoamatsukami by himself. The Shisui's MS ability was identical in both of his eyes.

When an Uchiha awakens mangekyo, they can get either eyes that does things, like Amaterasu or kamui, or eyes of insight, like kotoamatsukame or tsukiyomi. They don't necessarily always awaken one of each in each eye, sometimes they get the same thing in both eyes. Many people think that Shisui had 2 types of kotoamatsukame, a stronger one with a longer cool down that is said to take "decades" and a weaker one with a shorter cool down. And it was confirmed the only reason Danzo could spam it as much as he did was hashiramas cells. Also kotoamatsukame can straight up re-write an entire person. Change their memories and personality and motivations, not just mess with what they experience

The sentence "gain two special powers in BOTH their left and their right eye" makes it sound like it's two a piece so four in total.
People see the 10 years statement out of context. Shisui could definitely use kotoamatsukami as much as itachi used tsukuyomi. Kishimoto wouldn't make such a power having a 10 year cool down for the original users signature ability. Itachi said it could only be used every 10 years because in context, a crow was using it. If someone transplanted the eye they would still need a ton of chakra to do it but would still be able to use it but not regularly. Its the same thing when kakashi unlocked kamui. Also Danzo had hashirama cells buffing it and if you think having hashirama cells makes you able to do it more efficient than the original caster you are wrong.

For a crow transplanted with MS 10 years to cooldown before it can use it again
For a human: intensive training (like kakashi) but used way less frequently than the original caster
For a human with hashirama cells: In danzos case he could use it only 2 times a day
Shisui: Regular mangyeko ability, still needs a lot of chakra like tsukuyomi and Amaterasu and will lose light over time of use like every MS

Not clear. But it is mentioned when the guy with bakugan from mist tells his teammates to run when they encounter shisui's squad. He tells that shisui could torture a person with their worst nightmare.So its something like a tsukuyomi.

Koto-amatsukami rewrited the person's reality, but if someone with a byakugan or sharingan sees that the Chakra flow of the person it was cast in is altertered then they can still break them free.

MS, gives user one or more abilities, Madara has 1 MS ability (susanoo), obito also has 1 (kamui) Shisui 2 (Kotoamatsukami and susano), Sasuke has 2 (Amaterasu and susanoo) and Itachi has 3 (Amaterasu, tsukuyomi and susanoo). Danzo was using Kotoamatsukami often because of Senju DNA which lowers the Cooldown, also AO didn't broke the genjutsu he just detected that Danzo had Shisui's eye and that he was using some jutsu via that eye, so he concluded correctly that danzo was using kotoamatsukami.
From what I saw when watching Naruto, I think Amaterasu and Susano'o are mandatory abilities of the Mangekyou. Also, from what I could see, it seems that every Uchiha has an unique ability. Obito had Kamui, Itachi Tsukyomi, and Sasuke has the ability to control the Amaterasu flames at will, which is an ability I don't remember no one else having.
Also, maybe the final version of Kotoamatsukami is only achieved while using both eyes.

Not a plot hole. It is stated in the manga, that only a person with Hashirama cells can reduce the cooldown. This is stated by Itachi himself.
Those are two different powers. Both are hypnosis, one is more sugestive and easier to break, but can be cast often, other can give you absolute control of someone, even if tgey realize they are under genjutsu, but has long cooldown.
First theory is correct, shisui’s other eye is slightly different in terms of level of genjutsu and cooldown. We see this with obits as well, and how one eye shoots a projectile kamui while the other is a defensive kamui
Shisuie power is very dangerous if used in certain ways, because if used in a meeting of elders, you can make them do a bad thing, or make them believe wrong stuff, which is what Danzo wanted him to do with his clan, to make them end up seem like the villains in the village (evil politics basically)

The way I understand it it's this way:
The eye Danzo had could influence the decisionmaking/judgement of a person temporarily while the jutsu is active. A kind of "Yeah, actually that guy is right!" deal.
The eye Itachi got is more: "I'm gonna place this order on you. Have fun doing that stuff until you die"

my rationalization has always been this:
danzou isn't the actual owner of shisui's eye so he experiences a situation similar to kakashi with obito's eye, where he's just not able to make as effective use of the eye as shisui could. kakashi's MS uses a huge amount of chakra, and starting out, kakashi could only use it once or twice before having to retire. (this changed by the end of the show for plot convenience.) danzo probably isn't able to use kotoamastukami as effectively as shisui, which means strong opponents who've caught onto the fact that they're in a genjutsu may just be able to break out of it.
i also think that danzo took the eye containing the "weaker" form of kotoamatsukami, which when weilded by shisui could most likely be used on a daily-ish basis; his other eye being the more powerful of the two with a longer cool-down period.
as far as i'm aware there is no hard proof that shisui, himself, would have to wait ten years to use his powers after activation. the only person who seems to be inhibited by this for sure was itachi using the eye. moreover, itachi didn't even have a human using the eye - just a bird made of some of his chakra, which if i had to guess is even weaker of a host than danzo.
the hashirama cells probably allowed danzo to use shisui's eye with some regularity. i would imagine without hashirama's cells grafted onto his body that danzo probably would be able to use a weak kotoamatsukami once per week, roughly, and that shisui using the same eye could probably do it daily. as to the stronger, ten-year-eye, i just have a hard time accepting that kishimoto would knowingly give any power to a character with a cool-down as crazy as this. i have no basis for saying this but i feel like shisui using the stronger eye probably could use the stronger kotoamatsukami once every month, or six months, or something. ten years just seems flatly ridiculous. however, this is all pure speculation.
Actually it was never said that SHISUI could you use it every ten years. It was the people that used his eyes afterwards that couldn't use it without the 10 years drawback. Although it is unconfirmed, shisui most likely could use it regularly like any other MG

It's the implanted sharingans. The sharingan need lots of chakra to be stored before it could be used. Well in Danzo's case , the jutsu from the eye stolen from Shisui needs immensely more chakra which is why it could be used only about 10 years apart. Danzo can use it little by little because the chakra is divided between all the sharingan he transplanted into himself. Those are clones of Shisui's eye and all are storing chakra which is why the use is so short lived. He thought he uncovered a secret and improved the technique but in reality he made is slower and weaker. If he kept only 1 and had other 3 as backup then he would indeed become really powerful. But he overdid it because he was obsessed for more power and control over the Leaf.
I wouldnt be suprised if the whole Senju clan bloodline was just genetically close to Hagoromo to where they cells like regen chakra faster, and really taxing Justus are barely a struggle in comparison to other Justus. But hashirama being the peak of the clan
Yeah I seen a couple theories that he had Kotoamatsukami in both eyes but one was weaker and had a lower cooldown while the other was stronger and had a really long cooldown
No actually we were able to link you in the series. They said about that person the teleporter, which means his eyes, made it to where he could teleport anywhere.

I also know that shsui 2nd eye being stolen by donzo was NEVER COMFRIED, unlike the eye itahi was given by Shsui himself. Last we know was shsui killed himself before his eye could be taken. And there actually was a filler episode where donzo had sent his Ambu team in and they didnt return with anything. This was the part where they had shown shsui using his green susano. So the eye being used by donzo was a fake, he was always having experiences done with uchiha and 1st hokage cells. So he could've made a weaker version of shsui eye with cells from 1st hokage.
One manipulates the others in a genjutsu as we seen with danzo, the other basically rewrote itachi's purpose, basically controlling them until they did their "mission", i think thats the difference
Bruh you can have either or both. Eye of insight and or eye of hypnotism. Shisui had 2 eyes of Hypnotism. Very powerful kotso

It's not too far off to have two eyes do slightly different things, like kamui. They both transport things to the kamui realm, except ones local and ones distance.

Probably the same situation as kamui. Obito and kakashi's version are both are called kamui but function differently. Ranged vs contact. If both of kotomatsukami eyes were identical it would be the only set of sharingan that didn't get two at least somewhat different powers. If the samurai can break free of it that easily then there's no way it's the same jutsu that shisui thought could perfectly control fugaku
Ao has been the only one that got to walk away after encountering shisui and he never forgot shisui power its the only reason it was caught so danzo def didn't get the weaker version.
I mean it makes sense. Sasuke had the ability to create and snuff out amaterasu so having both eye abilities be relatee to each other isn't a stretch. Having one eye be usable more often with the other being far more potent makes complete sense if you ask me.
