Thanks. I have found it helpful when doing balance work to pick a spot on the wall or something that doesn’t move and focus on it. Helps me keep balance better
Thank you for the donation and for sharing your progress! I’m glad to hear that the balance workout is helping you with the stairs. Keep up the great work!
I love the short exercise as well, I can always fit them into my day. Sometimes I do them twice a day, along with some walking. Thanks Mike, your doing a great job.
So grateful I found this video as I am currently helping my sister recover from a stroke and heart attack. She is getting stronger through both OT and PT but still has balance issues making her a fall risk; we will be doing this exercise EVERYDAY ❤️
Thank you so much for this video in the past two years I've had several severe falls that seem to be related to balance and also developed vertigo and ear infection issue. I've had a sedentary job for the past 5 years after being an active hospital nurse. I appreciate that you are not all hyped up and wordy and stick to the business at hand but also you seem to have empathy with the challenges of aging and go slow. Thanks for your patientce nd expertise. Im getting better every day practicing these exercises.
Great video for regaining balance! I lost a lot of ground on balance while I was packing and fixing the house for our move over the last four months. I'm still doing intermediate workouts, but my balance isn't what it should be. I'll keep working on it, thanks for your help!
My neurologist gave me a prescription to go to a physical therapist for balance lessons. I figured I could find just as good of instructions on RUclips and I'm right. Now I won't have to drive 10 miles to and from the P.T.'s office and spend money on gas to get there. I will avoid the annoyance of dealing with a receptionist, filling out a patient history, and interacting with my insurance company. I'll have no copays. I can do the exercises at home--and in my jammies if I want to. Thanks for uploading this video.
Thanks Mike I am suffering with Ross River virus at the moment, into my 6th month. Some say it can take a year or more to recover. I am 75years old so I am starting your leg and arm exercises as my muscles in both have gotten very weak. Thank you so very much. Your short routines are just what I was looking for. Will let you know how I cope. What a debilitating disease RRV is, I had no idea.
Thank you so much…. this is the first time, I encountered your video. Thank you, you’re pleasant to watch . what a great help, it will do to me. I have difficulty with my left leg (maybe sciatica).
Nice demonstration of balance exercises for seniors . Although these appears easy at a first glance, it requires practice to perform. Thanks for sharing.
@@bhairavsinhjiraol1543 Yeah my dad can't do these. (He is 70.) I doubt he will work on it either. :c He just says he's "bad at balance" and leaves it at that.
So in just over a month I have gone from barely being able to stand on one leg for a couple of seconds to being able to follow all of these exercise without needing to use hands or touching the ground. I did the exercises every day religiously. Mike, which video would you recommend as a progression/next step from this one? Thanks again for this wonderful and literally life-changing video!
Hey Datapolo, I have only just seen this. Absolutely amazing effort, well done and thank you for sharing. In regards to balance, I suggest some dynamic balance work, which you can find on this page here: morelifehealth.com/balance-exercise-videos. See how you go with the intermediate 5 minute video as well. I also recommend doing leg strengthening exercises - both double leg and single leg exercises.. Keep up the good work with it all!
Thank you, you've helped me greatly with my balance, I'm 83 and I felt like I was drunk walking and now I can walk without feeling like I lost my balance..
I’m so happy to hear that the balance exercises are helping you, Lorraine! It’s amazing to know you’re feeling more stable and confident with your walking. Keep up the great work, and thank you for sharing your progress!
Sojourner Shrink You’re welcome Sojourner! :) I think all seniors should do some form of strength training. I have written a recent, in-depth article on the topic: morelifehealth.com/articles/strength-training-guide
Always best to gradually progress the exercises Ginny. However, yes, you can do these everyday. If you get tired or sore however, give yourself a rest before getting back to it.
These seems helping.Ihave problems with right leg.I have spinal problems causing pain in both legs and periferal neuropathy. The symptoms are more more in the right side.So I find difficult to do the exercises in one side.managing it by holding to a chair.
My main problem is that I cannot stand on my left leg without support because of a hip operation which was wrongly done. I need to support myself on my right side because if the. I am easily knocked off balance as a result.
It seems like there was an uneven amount of reps on the forward/back/side/over the body. I'll have to re-check but it seems the second leg did not do as many. (Not that it was complaining;)
I can do most of the exercises without holding on but sometimes I have more trouble with standing on one foot or other exercises that I did fine with the day before. ???
I am not sure what you are saying when you do the last exercise. Something about the correct form? I think I'm doing them right; but just couldn't quite understand all you said for the last exercise. Enjoy these!
You move, too fast, with each exercise(remember we are seniors, we are not as young as you are) some of us, are back is bend over, with back pain___we can't stand up straight, to began with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!so if you please, would you slow down alittle, with each exercise, for us, seniors? We would, appreciate it, very kindly!!! They do. And they can be made more challenging than this also :)
Lol I'm 31 and it still took me multiple tries to get through them easily.

Hey Cynthia. Yes you can do these barefoot!

The chair is not stationary and if the person loses balance for a moment and grabs the chair, it will go flying with them.
