Roughly 80% of male voices are barIthones but still it seems that RUclips is a place for tenors only...

This is a wonderful and really wise warm-up routine. Jack’s technique is pristine and worth using as a healthy reference. However, I’d like to note that Jack’s ability to hold his larynx low and his throat open (on a proper manner, because one can do it “pushing” the wrong muscle) requires a lot of neuromuscular connection and years, if not decades, of training/preparation. This is basically the “secret” to a properly emitted operatic sound, and one must not take it as “granted” given a proper breath. You might be able to arrive to that position, but definitely not to hold it. Also, there’s a different school of taught (of the likes of Jack LiVigni and the “old Italian” way of singing) which states that a properly emitted sound will guarantee a good breath/appoggio, and not the other way around (good breath leads to good sound). Thanks for the content, Jack… and congrats for your Met debut!! 🎉

This warm-up would kill me at my current stage of development. There's no way I can sing up to a G 4 this early in a warm-up without grabbing in my throat. You don't seem to have any issues with the passaggio, but it's important to let people know that not everyone can just start off by banging away at it and expect to get healthy results. You are clearly a more advanced singer and should say so.

      Hey there,
Thanks for the feedback. You’re absolute right that maneuvering the passaggio is tricky and everyone comes with different levels of training etc. If you watch the whole video on tonebase I make it very clear that if anything seems uncomfortable to stop what you’re doing, take a break and go back to “easy”. Easy is best when it comes to warm-up and if you feel like you’re struggling you’re right that you should take a step back and go back to the basics of breath, open throat and releasing tension, this is easiest in the lower/middle part of your range. Hope that helps and sorry if this short clip got you in knots.

It can't kill you if you follow it step by step; plus this training is best for classical lyric voices, if you are used to sing pop music you might have issues trying to change your technique.

Wow this is really lovely to watch and what a beautiful voice he has. I really liked him until I saw a photo of him holding up a dying fish on his Instagram page 😞

Hey Brian, apologies for the fish picture. To be clear, the fish weren’t dying, they were dead and eaten by me and my fishing companions. I am sorry if it made you squeamish however and I hope this video helps you in your singing journey even if you’re not a fan of fishermen/fish-eaters.
