I’d want to see the earliest Penguins. Some of them had dust jackets and Smythe-sewn bindings. You have to be a real book geek to get excited about Smythe-sewn bindings!
My ideal shelf from the archive would be the classic Penguin crime titles published between 1941 and 1944, incredibly scarce and expensive these days 🙂
I saw this video on my feed and totally thought: “I bet Jules would love to see this!”. And here you are! Haha. I wonder if they have that super rare green “Ariel”. :)
What I wouldn’t do for a complete set of Penguin English Library editions. 😭 I had to stop collecting them because some are extremely difficult to find, and it was affecting my mental health in a negative way. 😞
When You're Strange is a 2009 documentary film about the American rock band the Doors. It is written and directed by Tom DiCillo and for the first time makes material from Jim Morrison's 1969 film fragment HWY: An American Pastoral publicly available Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek has stated that "This will be the true story of the Doors," and that the film will be "the anti-Oliver Stone," referring to the 1991 film about the group that Stone directed, and which drew criticism from many Doors fans and several people who knew Morrison.
I know I speak for a vast horde of Wodehousians when I say, “Show me the Wodehouse shelves!” Are the various different covers filed by artist, or would an individual work have all its iterations filed together?
“Cabinets with reference cards.” 😂 You can tell the narrator is young. It used to be called a “card catalog.”
