    Having a physical copy of a brand new book is an amazing feeling. I love the feel of the pages and the smell of new paper in a book. I always have and always will prefer physical books to ebooks. Great video, very informative.

      I was a bookseller for most of my life and I used to feel the way you do about physical books.
      Now I see the impact of 100 years of irresponsible printing of huge amounts of forgettable junk books has had on our planet.

    Interesting to contrast the PR face of such publishing houses where they virtue signal about their hunger for 'diversity' in the authors they are looking for yet there is almost zero racial or gender diversity in the production staff.
    They are almost entirely white and female in an an office in London which is 50% male and probably 30% or 40% non white.
    I'm not saying they shouldn't be all white and all female. I can't speak to the racial makeup but assessing, editing books does seem to be something that women have a greater aptitude and interest in. Not sure if that applies to designing covers and interiors though.
    It's just telling what the front facing ethos of such companies are compared to the actual practice of recruitment.
    If that office were all white males there would be an outcry.

    This is a bit of a sham. This company will not take anything from a first time author. You’ll need to get an agent first. The chances of this happening are virtually nil. Agents turn down 99% of submissions sent to them. Reason being 99% of books in todays world don’t make back their publishing costs. Always think in the first instance of publishing your book yourself. Once published you can hire a PR marketing company. This is by far the best path to take. It will save you a lot of heartache from these publishers and agents. Self publishing is the way forward for budding authors.

    • @NewsRedial
      @NewsRedial 2 года назад +1

      Why is the video a sham though? It's just a puff peace about how lovely books are and how joyful the work of publishing them is.
      And, 99% of anything is rejected, screen plays, art, demo tapes. That's the way it goes.
      Also, you are giving bad advice about self publishing.
      If you first self publish then publishers will not take you on. Not unless your book becomes a smash hit.
      There are only about one hundred literary agencies in the UK and about eighty large medium and small publishers; of which only around thirty accept unsolicited submissions.
      It's better to query the Agencies first and also the publishers who accept submission then while you wait three to six months to see if you got any interest, prepare your book for self publishing by doing the formatting, editing, copy editing and cover design etc.
      If your book gets taken by an agent and then a publisher then great, if not then go ahead with the self publishing.
      At the very least you will see what kind of response you got from all the submissions.

    • @alandavies3727
      @alandavies3727 2 года назад +1

      @@NewsRedial why am I giving bad advice? A lot of these agents are giving out false hopes-There seems to be a lot of young women spouting off stuff and getting thousands of subscribers. Quite a few of these woman have never written a book in their life, They go on for years waffling away. I’m trying to give budding authors the ‘real’ take on the traditional publishing world. It’s not worth the heartache, surly we all want to see our book in our hands? There’s some fantastic self publishing companies out there now, they’re doing a better job than most of the trad publishers, The quality of their books is a lot better, they’re not trying to cut the costs, because the author is paying for it. If you ask me I think agents are doing tremendous damage to the publishing world. We’ve still got a lot of these agents in play in England that rejected ‘Harry Potter’ and they’re still doing it. These agents don’t have a clue what will be a success. They use a word called ‘subjective’ meaning they don’t know.

    • @NewsRedial
      @NewsRedial 2 года назад +1

      @@alandavies3727 The fact that you say it saves 'heartache' indicates that you feel bad that your book wasn't accepted by an agent so you want to sour everyone else from trying.
      Just because most people won't get a book deal and even that do will get rejected by most agents first doesn't mean they shouldn't try.
      All they have to do is fire off an email to an agent then forget about it. Then if they get a reply asking to discuss it more great, if not they can do self publishing.
      It's bad advice to tell people not to even try.

    • @alandavies3727
      @alandavies3727 2 года назад

      @@NewsRedial what on earth are you talking about? Who said that I got rejected by agents? The traditional publishing world has been rotten to its core for years. They’ve had total control but not anymore. I’ve got a far better publishers than any trad publisher. I’ve had five books published this year all are very high quality. These books are now on a lot of world internet books sites. Royalties are coming in. I don’t have to pay any agent or publisher anything, ever for years and years and years. I can publish anything I want at any time. Why would I wait for some agent to try to get some publisher to accept my work? It’s all done. Can’t you see this? It’s in the mindset of people that you won’t get anywhere unless you go by these publishers and agents.it’s been drummed into people. Well whoever you are, you’re wrong. Are you an agent by any chance? You seem to putting up a big fight for them.

    • @NewsRedial
      @NewsRedial 2 года назад +1

      @@alandavies3727 Look, if you talk about 'heartache' and are vitriolic about the traditional publishing system, you are naturally going to come across as someone with sour grapes from not getting accepted. It was a perfectly reasonable guess on my part.
      And if you publish five books in a year then it's likely they aren't the kind of books that agents and publishers were looking for.
      And nobody is saying that people shouldn't self publish. Rather that there is nothing wrong with them reaching out to agents also.
      And no, I'm not an agent, I'm just in the starting phase of looking for an agent. And if I don't get one, then fine, I'll self publish.
