  • In this Briefing Room video we continue to talk about Pistol Red Dot Sights. Today we are at the range and go over how Dave Zero's his pistol red dot sights. To save a little time you can co-witness the dot to the iron sights but the two should be sighted in separately. In this video we use the 10 Yard RMR Zeroing Target from Arma Dynamics. You can download the target for free from their website. Be sure to check out our other videos on this topic in the Briefing Room Playlist. Thanks for watching!

      You don't want to cowitness a pistol red dot. Align the iron sight as like you would normally then zero the red dot ignoring the iron sights

  • @kilo6one

    What was your point of aim at 25 yards? All of the rounds hit low on the steel target. Also, where does the dot sit inside the RMR window? Do you have it lollipoping the front sight so that if you had to use the iron sights everything is still zeroed?

    • @GunsandTactics
      @GunsandTactics  6 лет назад +3

      I don’t recall exactly where I was aiming but usually I pick a spot on the steel target where there is a mark and shoot for that. I do not have the dot co-witnessing or “Lolly popping” with the front sight I treat them as independent sight systems. If the sight were to go down I just look through the empty window and use the iron sights on their own

    • @afrosheenix
      @afrosheenix 5 лет назад +3

      Nope. Look on some ammo boxes. The 9mm round usually reaches the top (apogee) of the curve at 25 yards and drops from there. Anything before that will hit high, anything after that will hit low. That's why they suggest you zero at 25 yards.

  • @gobucs3146
    @gobucs3146 4 года назад +1

    All these zeroing videos, but they never talk about where the dot should be in the window.
    I’ve seen in the middle. But mine came “zeroed” and it sits lower third of window on the front sight post. And I hit where it shows. Should I “zero” it so the dot is in the middle of the window?

    • @GunsandTactics
      @GunsandTactics  4 года назад

      Go Bucks center of the window is where you should hold the dot. Ignore the iron sights when shooting the dot, just use the dot as it’s own system and pretend the irons aren’t there unless you need them as a back up. Present the gun so the dot is in the center of the window and I’m guessing your point of impact won’t change much or at all. Red dot parallax is a thing but not so much as people make it out to be. Any red dot, rifle or pistol, you want the dot to be in the center of the tube or box to reduce parallax issues.

      +Jim Snyder I certainly understand that and somewhat agree. However with pistols I've also seen quite frequently the zero be completely different off hand versus a rest due to harmonics, interference etc. Zeroing a rifle is different from a pistol. So long as you can be consistent do what works for you. The dot was on out to 50 as shown in this video and I've since shot it out to 100 with no issues. Thanks for watching. -Dave

    Yeah it was a nice video but i still don't understand. Stop me if i'm mistaken but to eliminate "human" or "physiomechanical" issues in your zeroing process, isn't shooting from a good shooting rest a far better idea, for precision and consistency sake ? I wouldn't trust my gun to be "zeroed" by my hand alone. Too many factors at play.

      Yup certainly an option. Usually I can shoot an inch or so at 10 yards so not a big issue and can adjust accordingly.

    How are you co witnessing

      +Ardo Rivera for pistols I really don't truly co witness. I zero both independently. If the dot goes down the back ups are there. With the Shield they are pretty close to a co witness though. However with a pistol I don't think co witnessing is very critical as each sight system should be zerod.

      But he does have height sights on his G34, correct?

      PDAI PRODUCTIONS the suppressor height sights are needed on the 34 as the RMR sits up higher

    The best way to zero a sight: Put a clay pigeon at the distance you want. Then walk the bullet into the clay, then fine tune on a target. Simple

    Shouldn't you bench rest doing this

    My advice, zero on something stable. Use a backpack or something to that nature. Also slow down with your shots, don’t just send em down range like this dude. Once zeroed in, train hard.

    So your long day and hot sun and tired all excuses… SO… take you out of the equation and rest the pistol. I am not a fan of resting my gun while practicing. I AM however a huge fan of resting while zeroing. It’s always better than I am.

    Am i retarded or something? I click these videos because i dont know how to zero my red dot and when it comes to actually zeroing your sight, you just completely gloss over how exactly how the dial works. 80% of the vid is shooting and theres like 5 seconds of adjusting while giving zero explanation as to which way and how much you’re supposed to move the dial
