    I love my squirrel mops. Funny how we get attached to our brushes. A certain artist was asked, “ how long do you keep your brushes” he replied, “ i keep them until they’re sticks, then I say a little prayer, and let them go” love that.

    Again, my thanks, Michele! I was a rather talented artist in high school and thought it would by my advocation, but had spent many years studying piano and that became my career. In my "old age", and because of nerve damage to several fingers on the left, I decided to revisit art again, especially using color, which I had no real training in. I go to an art class, but in all honesty, the teacher we have doesn't seem to be as good as you are, especially with beginners, plus, I really need more quality instruction time (but hey, this art class is provided to us "seniors" by the government and a small token fee, so I can't slam it!). Your instructions have been immensely beneficial. I remember you said you had a line of paint brushes, but do also have any other tools or medium under your name? Keep in mind, I'm an American, so may not have access to any of your products. Cheers!

      Thanks for taking your valuable time to answer my question, Michele. Actually, I did find your line at Jackman's a bit later on line and wanted to delete my inquiry, but could find where I placed it. Sorry! However, I will look into purchasing some of your things there after I've used up my current supplies. Thanks again and cheers!

    Ha! My instincts as a total watercolor newbie were right. With the "let's use what I have lying around" I started to experiment with a cheap chinese (calligraphy? ) brush I bought years ago on a whim. Round, pointy and quite big. Worked quite well!

    OMGOSH that standing brushes in the water jar thing drives me crazy! I’ve even seen some RUclips artists do that in instructional videos! Yikes! I have a question; perhaps you’ve already addressed it in a video that I haven’t yet seen and, if so, please let me know. Sometimes, after my paint dries, I get a darker line all around the edge of whatever I’ve painted - like a leaf, etc., with the same color only darker. So, I rewet the area and try to scrub it out, which usually sets off a whole chain of unhappy results. I’ve tried to determine what is causing this; what paper, what paint, or what combination thereof, but there seems to be no common denominator. Since it doesn’t happen all the time, it’s even more puzzling. Thanks for any insight you can offer. Love your channel, and your sense of humor, which is much like mine! 😊

    • @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
      @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber  4 года назад +4

      Thanks so much for watching and supporting my channel. I haven't done a video on it yet but I think I have the answer to your problem. I call it 'excessive water' technique. If you leave an area of paint so wet that the surface tension of the water actually can be seen pushing up in a little puddle, especially in a small area, then as it dries it will start to push the paint pigment out to the edge (a petal or leaf for example). Scrubbing out after it's dry just makes it worse as you can't get the brush accurately right to the edge so even more pigment gets deposited there. Once you have applied paint, lift excess water off with a dried brush. If paint doesn't puddle it won't push the pigment anywhere. Some Asian painting styles actually use this excessive water technique to delicately outline petals etc. But it's a pain if you don't want it. 😏

I had tried another brand of brushes recommended by someone else and sent them all back and went with the Winsor Newton Cotman sets on Amazon. I concluded two days ago after experimenting with each brush that I needed a larger round (the sets each came with a 6 round). I just ordered a 10, 8, a mop and a 1inch wash.
