  • The Vincent Audio SV-228 hybrid integrated amplifier merges the greatness of tubes with solid state, without really having the drawbacks of either. This amp is an absolute powerhouse, and it features some classic VU meters up front to bring back some nostalgia along the way.

    What it has is the best damn power supply that an amp can offer, which translates into authoritative bass and usually an understated power supply. That “special sauce” is called Tubes. This combination of tubes is the best out there for tube rolling (Nos rolling), a pair of 12au7 and one 12ax7. (6n4) and this gives you freedom to get a very adjusted or tuned to your speaker sound you can have. My suggestion if you buy this, Upscale Audio is to get a pair of CV4003 Brimar of Mullard and a CV4004 Mullard. 12au7, 12ax7 equivalent, which should be pure magic for most. There are plenty of other combinations, but this is the best two types for a preamp section. They use that 6n1 in a lot of their preamp secti9ns that literally is not replaceable. I have the SV500 and will order this tomorrow to replace a all Tube integrated and replace a McIntosh Integrated (solid state) . I'm so confident in this arrangement to sell my Tube integrated and the Mac. I'll pair it with my Cary Audio DAC 200ts and be content.

    Very nice review. I've been interested in Vincent amps for awhile but have yet to purchase one. I'm now in the need of a new integrated amp for a secondary system. In my reference system I have a Luxman L-509x any thoughts on how the sound signature might compare?

    Nice review. I especially liked your description of the unique sound of the amp. It seems that it’s the very thing that would enhance my own sound system. Does the amp not have a dedicated phono section? Would you recommend getting the Vincent phono amp with this if one wanted to play vinyl? Also, can you tell me what happens if one were to connect a cd player to it-would the Burr Brown dac in the Vincent cancel the dac in the cd player? I’m new at this stuff and don’t have an audio store nearby where I could get answers. Thanks for your time.

    I shot the SV-500 for 999€ in Germany after your review of that device. The SV-228 is a real beast and looks amazing, but a bit too much for my Dynaudio Evoke 10s. Also I got the SVS Ultra Bookshelf’s since they are on sale right now because the model will be replaced soon, I think they are a good match for the SV-500. I just want to get back the sound of the 80’s vintage stereo system that I heard when I was 14 and was visiting my cousin who had his own record player and a silver integrated amp and some JBL Bookshelf speakers and I played Ghetto Music from BDP / KRS One, it was amazing! 🤩

    When you connect the power cable to the power socket, will this amp turn on without pushing any button on the amp or the remote?
    I need an amp that just turns on without any human interaction and stays on.

    Thanks a lot for the neutral, to the point review. I was considering the SV 228 vs the Marantz model 40N. I am not interested in the streaming part, but only the difference in tone between the two brands. Since I prefer a slightly warmer, non fatiguing musical sound, which one would be more suited.
    Does it also have a HT bypass mode to connect to an avr as a power amp. A demo of Vincent is not possible in my country hence the query. My speakers are Dali Oberon 1 with a Rel subwoofer. Thanks again.

      @nit- i had the vincent 237mk ll about three weeks ago . the sound sound stage and separation was very very good and it is three dimensional . it was as if i was inside of the music listening in a bubble . however , after about twenty minutes of listening the right channel crashed (no sound ) so i turned it off for ten minutes and restarted . it played ok for a few minutes and then went to half volume . again a rest period and then the right tripled in volume almost destroying my new speakers .
      i returned it and the store owner suspected faulty tubes .
      anyway i bought the marantz model 30 and have been enjoying it since . the sound stage is as good as the vincent but lacks 3 dimensionality .however , as i continue to add hours of play to the amp it is becoming deeper and more immersive with incredible separation and clarity . i have 4 ohm speakers that are hungry for, power and the 30 is more than enough to push my speakers with lots of reserve for intense /loud passages in a song. i'm VERY pleased with the sound and the build quality . i have the silver model which is gorgeous .

      @@siriosstar4789 , thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. I guess your 237 mk2 could be a faulty one. Unfortunately the 237 mk2 does not have HT bypass which I require & this feature is there in the SV 228 .
      Where as Marantz is concerned, I like its slightly warm tone as this is my 2nd consecutive Marantz avr. I am sure your Model 30 must be very good for stereo listening. Wishing you years of listening pleasure.

    Very Nice presentation..I have a set of 8ohms and 4ohms.. I never play more than two speakers at a time.. I would put one set on the A channel and the other on the B, play them separately.. would that be ok with this amp? Is there a A-B selector switch?.. My current straight Amp has the selector switch and a 4-8 ohms switch in the back

    I've noticed you've done a lot of amp reviews but I don't remember any receiver reviews. Is that just because you want to stay in the audio lane and not start drifting into video?

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  Год назад

      I've considered more HT gear but the issue is time. I don't like to produce content that isn't to my standard of thoroughness and those videos take a long time to produce. So it would take too much away from the gaming/headphone/audiophile coverage at the moment. Thanks so much for asking though! Perhaps sometime soon!

    I have a 2009(?) SV226 MKII and without the tone, and loudness buttons engaged, it doesn’t sound good. Might that indicate a problem I didn’t know? I’m from a different time(vintage audio gear is my benchmark such as the 70’s Marantz/ Yamaha) and I’ve had it for 14 years I suppose as the second owner. I just bought some Klipsch Fortes as my LSA2 tower speakers were too compressed , especially playing digital. I also missed the days of my youth with speakers as furniture. I have to laugh….I didn’t realize just how big they are and surprisingly, they are easily driven. I’ve enjoyed it but the Vincent is very forward sounding with them. I just would like a bit more depth. It maybe a break-in period with the speakers. I would appreciate the issues I spoke of with the tone and loudness. Am I missing something or has something gone awry in my tone control. Sounds good with decent tone control when tone/loudness are engaged but very sterile without them. I have to say, I always enjoyed the loudness engaged on my old Yamaha also so it may be a preference. Would appreciate your take and suggestions. I haven’t a clue on who to ask about this as I’ve never seen this brand talked about much. Cheers-

    • @jimdworzec8869
      @jimdworzec8869 Год назад

      I am of the same mentality, and probably about your age, So I’m definitely engrained in the vintage sound from the old 70’s equipment. I bought a new Marantz PM6006 in 2020 to replace an old Luxman from the 90s. The main reason I bought the Marantz was because they still offer loudness and tone controls. If these controls are bypassed or disengaged the music sounds so flat and sterile that it’s almost unlistenable, so I’m almost sure there’s nothing wrong with your Vincent amp. I also own Klipsch Forte speakers, which produce awesome sound, that’s why Klipsch reintroduced them into their product line again. Keep listening with the loudness on and adjust your tone controls to get the sweet sound you are looking for, I’ll be doing the same thing! Take care and keep enjoying the music!

      Звук без тонкомпенсации плохой по 2 причинам, 1 надо поменять китайские лампы на хорошие gold fube, аккустические колонки высокого класса и поменять в них катушки с сердечником на воздушные, поменять конденсаторы в кроссовере на топ. Тогда тонкомпенсация станет ненужной и даже неприятной. Звук оторверся от динамиков и будет рисовать голография.
