    Toney is an all time great. Didn't even train, he was so undisciplined he only sparred-and he was still great. All that damage absorbed in the gym adds up though, worse than any damage he took in fights in his prime.

    @4:35.."I don't care if you're fly weight or momma weight"lol....James Toney uses angles better than any other fighter I've seen. Also @1:16 take a look at how Toney uses the shoulder lean...One of the reasons people use the shoulder is to smother the opponent and break up their punching rhythm. if you watch this video, Toney is a master at doing this. Props to Terry Smith, but Toney knows how to work range very well. A true OLD SCHOOL FIGHTER.

    I love James Toney. He's the King of trash talk. I do have to agree with most people on here though. I also don't think he is the boxer to do big things in MMA. I'd love to see him drop somebody but I do think that he'll eventually get taken down and won't know how to defend himself unfortunately. Maybe his first opponent will want to try and make a statement against him and trade punches with him. Highly unlikely but if it did happen God help the MMA fighter.

    @HamerD Randy whooped Vera? What fight were you watching man? Vera rocked Randy twice in that fight, and as I recall Randy didn't land a single punch, he instead did nothing but lean on Vera the entire fight like they were huggin buddies. And yes, I do think a champion caliber heavyweight boxer strikes differently then a skinny kickboxer. Toney probably punches 3x as hard as Vera, and a clen left hook on the button will take you out much quicker than a partially blocked knee to the chin.

  • @Sweetwarda
    @Sweetwarda 15 лет назад

    Toney is an example of a pure fighter.
    Never has been KO'ed or beaten badly.
    If he had dedicated himself to stay in shape Wow he would've been top 3 of all time. But he is still top ten his skills are unmatched. Only the Floyd mayweathers, royjones had that much natural talent from strat to finish in there careers and roy dont have the chin.

  • @HamerD
    @HamerD 14 лет назад

    @Sup3rShann0n but silva didn't win by hands. Chael rocked him twice on the feet. And Randy whipped Brandon Vera recently....who is also a top notch striker (muay thai). You think a knee to the face is any less knockout-worthy than a good hook?
    The other problem here is that Randy is not going to wait on top of JT. He will gnp the second he gets it down because Toney can't possibly have learned enough ground defence to do anything.
    Toney has a chance. But your analysis is awkward + misplaced

  • @percylongshaft4091

    James Toney looks like a black Marlon Brando with a hint of Burt Reynolds .

  • @Sup3rShann0n
    @Sup3rShann0n 14 лет назад

    @HamerD ok. 420headband saidSilva could beat JT in a standup battle. I said that's rediculous. Yes, silva lost to chael in every aspect of that fight until 3 mins into the 5th when he threw on a hail Mary triangle. My analysis is this: if Toney uses distance and makes Randy chase him and tags him a few times standing, which will eventually cause Randy to shoot for sloppy double legs, he could frustrate Randy enough to try and trade with him. At this point it'd be lights out for Randy.

    @bigtimmy727 You don't have to like the guy on a personal level to respect his incredible technical skill and prowess for the sweet science. Even at 41, anyone in the UFC would be stupid just stand and trade punches with him cause he'd knock them out. Leg kicks and doubles all day, let's hope his first opponent remembers that.

    @residualrevenge your partly right, but "kids" never really did watch boxing,not even when it was at it greatest. It was always a mature sport. It's like in the 70ties and 80ties,kids where watching kungfu movies,bruce lee and all that. Once they grew up, they started watching boxing.Boxing fan does not care what is the most effecient on the street, does mature people care about street fights ? No. They simply want to watch what is most entertaining to them, so what is most efficient means jack.

    I'm a huge fan of mma. I love Randy couture, but toneys Boxing is world class. It's similar to the silva vs sonnen scenario. Randy/chael are better wrestlers by leaps and bounds, but you have to get in range before you can take them down, and all it takes is 1 shot from either. So, what I'm sayin is for 15/25 mins, chael/Randy has to keep them on the ground, while silva/toney only need to be standing and punching fir a split second

    @Sup3rShann0n Uhh Randy finished with a submission , GnP works also. Another thing is if Toney fought a guy like Shogun , he'd get his ass kicked from the kicks and knees lets get real David Haye wouldn't come and beat Overeem in MMA even if it stayed standing. That being said War Toney , hes a far greater legend than Couture in their respective sports in my opinion , love boxing.

    honestly ur gonna see what gsp did to penn in their last fight, randy gonna take him down, make toney work hard on the ground for 1st round maybe second round fatigue and lactic acid build up around toneys shoulders which will make toneys boxing less of a threat.
    Or randy get's knocked out in 20secs :P
